It has been said more than a few times but in the last few years I have been seeing more and more Coues in the flats especially in 36C. Like 2-3 miles away from anything resembleing a hill let alone a mountain. I have noticed this during the off season so it is not because of pressure. I have'nt had a 36C Coues tag in more than a few years.

I have always said that good thing happen when you take a day off from work to go hunting. With a bear rifle like that you really had no choice but to go hunting! Congradulations, I third the excellent coat!

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your friend but am glad to hear that he is OK. Another lesson on being careful: I have a friend in Sonora who is a avid shooter in the .22 rifle competitions. He does hunt deer with a 300WSM but 99.9% of his shooting is the .22lr. While he was at the range during one of his regular practice sessons fellow club member asked him to take a look at an old .22 pistol that they could not figure out. After a bit of cleaning and checking the pistol out they fired a few rounds and the pistol quickly jammed. It did not feed correctly. He put the safty and while he was trying to clear the jam without the finger on the trigger the safty failed the slide slammed forward and fired.................. Right in the palm of his hand . He is ok but having trouble with his hand movment still after 6+ months. Maybe we can learn or remind our selfs about gun safty. Part of the laundry list of mistakes he made, feel free to jump in here. TRUSTING A SAFTY! TOUCHING A GUN HE DID NOT KNOW(he had never seen that model of pistol before) TOUCHING A GUN WHO HAD NOT SEEN A QUALIFIED GUNSMITH, EVER. TOUCHING A GUN THAT HAD NOT SEEN A CLEANING KIT, EVER. PUTTING ANY PART OF HIS BODY IN FRONT OF THE MUZZEL. TRUSTING A SAFTY!

Now that is how it is done! 3 for 3 on some incredable animals. Now it is time for a bigger freezer, another GOOD problem to have.

Limp bizkit, THATS WHAT I THOUGHT AT FIRST TOO! -
So is it a safe to say that it is illegal to harvest a piebald or albino buck is what ever state this buck lives in? I can't imagine a buck or doe make it to this age and still being alive. He might a well have a flo orange coat on. Come to think about it it would be perfect camo in the snow but other wise........ I have heard that some folks say they would not harvest a buck like this. If it were legal I definatly would in a heart beat!

I was suprised some one here had not reminded us. I for one really enjoy getting out to the hills again. It gives me a chance to shoot at a Javie while I am chasing deer with the bow. My wife does the rifle hunt so that is another chance to be out. I love it.

Woohoo!!! I have to say that the only thing missing is the close up of your face at the very end when you stand up! I would pay money to see that!!!!! I bet it was PRICELESS !

Very cool, I dig the music as well. Who is it? I can't place it. -
Yup, I am one of the procrastinators. I just happen to check the azgfd.com web site for my wife's fishing trips to one of the local urban lakes and I saw the two Javies on the opening page. we finally got every thing in and handed in the apps at 6:30pm. I was close!

More D replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
VERY COOL Coues Fan, VERY COOL!! Watching it in video form has much more of an impact. I could even hear the bow shot. Again, You guys make it look easy. I only wish it would be a tiny bit on the easy side for my upcoming bull tag. Thanks for posting! -
I had a shaddy experience with thouse guys. I didn't get burned but they tried to hit me up for an extra $50 on an order I already placed. I fell bad for your buddy. He should really do something about it! Just think about how much money they make off of customers who don't want to deal with the BS.

I have had great experience with Columbia hiking boots. Back in the spring of '02 I bought some boots for about $110 called Elk hunters or Elk ridge, I can't remember. At only 6 inches tall I was a bit nervous about using a "hiking boot" for hunting but it worked out great. They were VERY comfortable, all leather and waterproof. I would have then shined regularly and they would even clean up real well too. During the '05 Javi hunt water got in them, I was disapointed because they were so comfortable but I had almost gotten 3 years out of them. I was surprised to find out on there web site that they had a "Lifetime Warranty" It cost me $13 for UPS and they sent me a NEW pair for the same boot in the latest version called Diamond Peak. I thought that was pretty cool! This new pair were just as good if not better than the first pair. A dream to break in and very comfortable. With me helping on three Elk hunts up north and two deer hunts down in southern Az, it was a busy year. I think I shined this new pair of boots only once and they paid for it too. The seam along the outer edge came apart. I figured no biggie, I will send them in for a new pair. I looked up Columbia's web site to find this: We do not offer a warranty on our footwear. Because quality control is an ongoing process, whenever there is a problem with the manufacturing or materials of our footwear products, we would like to evaluate it. If you have a problem with your footwear within the first year of usage, please send it shipping prepaid to: COLUMBIA SPORTSWEAR COMPANY Attention: Warranty Department 7000 N. Leadbetter Rd. Portland, Oregon 97203 I called and the rep said that the boots have to have some tread left on the bottom and if I sent them in they would be "evaluated" "So they do have a warranty?" I asked " No, but send them in and we will take care of you if it has been less a year." I answered "It has been 1 year and 5 months" He said, "Send them in anyways" So I will let you know how this turns out, they have had them for only a week. I really don't care if they don't "warranty" them or not I will still buy the same exact pair. That is how much I like them. I recommend what ever you get to have them shined regularly.

Great Stories! It's amazing how much history and important memories can be in a rifle. My stories are not so exotic but as far as I can remember my first was a Daisy BB gun that I terrorized the neiborhood with, man I had that thing for years untill I decided it needed a good cleaning. I ruined it because I never could get it back together correctly. Funny enough my mom surprised my for christmas about 4 years ago with the same model . I was happy and surprised they still made it. The first firearm was a tube feed Marlin .22 that my brother and I shared, we liked it alot be we couldn't hit the dirt with it because we never learnd to aim. We just used to pull the trigger as fast as we could . That was quickly taken away and we were handed an OLD, no serial # old, Springfield Meteor single shot .22. I think our dad traded a co-worker for it for $20 bucks he was owed like 20 years ago. We quickly learned to make the shots count with that one and plus we were only given like 15-20 shells each. My first big game rifle I ever owned is the one I still own and hunt with today. It is a Model 70 in 30-06. I saved for what seemed like a year and only saved like $120. I worked for my uncle on a few jobs and earned another $100. He must have felt sorry for me because he asked me one day to show him the rifle I wanted. I had a it all picked out at the wally mart down the street because all the other gun shops sold them for sooo much more. He gave the difference an we took her home that day. I have taken my fair share of game with it from jackrabbits to deer, no rifle Elk tag yet. My wife on more than one occation has urged me to get a new rifle but all the memories and the fact that it does every thing so well, it will even shoot better than me, I just don't want to. Oh I still buy some thing just not another deer rifle . So Mule Skinner did you skin that mule because he was the reason you didn't get you .243??

I have always liked the .280. I did not get one because of some one the reasons listed, pricier to shoot, not readaly available, etc. If you look at some of the ballistic carts it will show the .280 having better energy out past 200yards than the 30-06 in simaler weights. A tad bit better BC number is the reason. 5-10% better numbers on energy and drop past 200 yards doesn't really mean all that much to a game animal when hit in the right spot. Dead is dead. Now for your question: Is it better? No not really. It is like me saying that my 30-06 is better than Lark's .270, Lark's .270 is better than 25-06's 25-06, 25-06's 25-06 is better than 300WSM's ......you get the point. They can shoot better than I can so is more the monkey behind the rifle that counts. I will say this if you have to choose between the two get the .270 only because it is cheaper to shoot/practice with and more practice makes you a better shot !

Very nice!! Great mount. What unit?

I try a few different factory loads but like Daryl says don't over look the 'standard' factory loads. While they may not be fancy or come in a cool looking box they can some times give great accuracy. Walmart sell a few .270 loads for about $11 a box to boot. This is all a ploy to get Lark to come out of his hid'n hole init?!?
