Looks great Jim!! You footage is, as always, very impressive. Maybe you should add that you only hunt AZ draw/fairchase hunts. The elk you all have taken are huge, some idiot might think 'pen/farmed' elk. Hahaha... What about all the kick A$$ coues and mulies you all have done? No mention of them.. You all have worked hard, congradulations to you and you team. This is a big step!!

I was bowhunting for javies in 36C 4-5 years ago. I got a strong wiff of Javie 'parfume' and I tried to follow the smell. I got about 60-70 yard from a rock outcropping and a dog started barking at me. I shocked me because it was a smallish black dog which was quickly joined by a buch more. They all started to circling the rock outcropping and I started thinking they were going to come at me. I did have my .38 snub nose revolver with me but I can barely hit the dirt with it let alone a moving dog. I put the pistol back in my pocket and tried to stalk in for a bow shot, which I am not much better shot with than the the snubby. What was scary was that a few from the pack did take off but the rest, all different sizes and colors just got more and more aggressive. Eventually I did take a shot which was quicly followed by a sharp 'yep'. No blood or sign but I never did find the arrow eaither. After the shot they all started to run in the same general direction and I finally saw how many there were, about 10-12. I did go back a few times with my '06 for pratice sake but I never did see any more dogs. I did find the source of the Javie smell, the pack was feeding on a nice healthy adult size Javie that looked to have been take down that same morning. Ernesto is your pic from 36C? I have always carried a pocket revolver/pistol but now I difinatly take a rifle too.

I would like to have the hide from my wifes elk hunt tanned. I have no idea where or how to go about it. Can anyone recommend a company/taxidermist? I would like to keep it in AZ because of the shipping, etc. It has the hair on now and it has been in a chest freezer for a couple of months now. I would like leather(hair off) and a dark brown/black color. thanks

Pics always help....... Sounds like a nice rifle.

I know how you feel. I had to cut back on some hunting while in school. I am just finishing up now and I can’t wait to get back into it as much as I used to. I still hunted rifle but I had to cut back on the archery totally and I miss it. Do what you have to do….then jump back in head first………you will even enjoy it more! Good luck… -
I sure wish I could see the pics! All i see are little red x's. Great story, I hope if I ever get a 'north' tag I can use it as wisely as you did. Gongrats even if I can see the pics.

We had the first Mule deer hunt, 10-31 to 11-6, in unit 32. We were hunting at the top of Sunset loop north of Wilcox in the National forest. On the way back to camp we found a gun. We are trying to find the owner to get it back to its rightful owner. We also put up a flyer at the entrance of the national forest because we were camped right across the road from it but no one came to inqiure about it. We also stopped at most of the camps to ask if any one had lost a gun but no luck. If any one know of someone who lost a gun please have them contact me via PM here to identify it. I know I would be sick if I lost something like that. Lets spred the word....

I actually do not have the pistol anymore. Only a few hours after we found it the WM came to the camp next to ours, apparently they got into a bit of trouble because they were accidentally hunting on private property. When the investigator and the WM finished up 'next door' I called them over and showed them what we had found. I asked if they could take possetion of the pistol because I did not feel comfortable holding on to it. He said he would and put it into the AZGFD lost & found. He gave me his card and instructed that if the owner came around to contact him with a description so that it could be returned. I have his card and will give it to anyone who can identify the pistol. It never occurred to any of us to keep what was not ours. I truly thought that the owner would come to camp before the hunt was over and that they might even get to take the pistol home with them. My guns have special place in my life and I hoped to get the pistol back to it's owner. So please keep and ear out for the guy/gal telling a story about how they lost a pistol........

I know, I know... We hunt as a family with wifes, kids, cousins, uncles, etc. Before application time we all vote on where and what we want to hunt. Some of us who want to hunt white tail always seem to lose out and have to apply for Mulies. I love the Coues but my favorite place to hunt is with my family!
-
It is actually a pistol, a nice one. It certainly isn't worth $1000 dollars but still I know the owner felt its loss. I was being vague on purpose about what we found because I know only the owner will be able to identify it. Hopefully he can get a hold of me so he can so we can get it back to him/her.

He has had it for a few years now. It is a beauty for sure......

Sorry Doug, I am wrong. The XP3 have issues with petals breaking not the E-Tips. Sorry for the confusion.
-
I am also looking for a bullet/load for my wifes elk hunt. The new American hunter magazine mentioned that the E-tip had some issues with the petals breaking off and the exit holes being on the small side. Just thought I would mention it. Especially if it not a real accurate bullet for you.

I only watch his show to support him. They have a too many commercials in the show to be top notch. I will say that I LOVE his enthusiasm!! If I see him on TV I have to watch to hear what comes out of his mouth and to see the others listening to him mouths drop open. I love it.

congrats! nice to see one of thouse boys in someone hands instead of making us dream about them. Very nice.

I would close my accounts....immediately. Maybe it might have been a bit much to ask you to leave, asking to mind your language might have been more appropriate. If they asked me to leave I would have responded " I will as soon as I conclude my business" . Freezing your money was way too much. Almost like she/he was punishing you??? Who the he[[ is he/she. I would not stand for it. As a matter of fact if my money was there I would close my accounts. Good Luck!

I know what you mean red rabbit that is how I was reading the terms when I started to do my research on the 'SXS' forums out there. The Ranger XT is what we got because of the bench seat. I also seems to be the most capable work wise. Towing, load capacity, etc...... Azonecam, There are some great deals to be had on the "left over" '08 Ranger because the '09 just came out and there was some design changes. What ever you do look at all of them and find the best one. When/if you buy one there are tons of aftermarket stuff to buy for them too.

Jason I know what you mean. Let me tell you a bit about our situation even though it may only confuse you more. We had decided that we wanted a quad for hunting a few years ago. After a lot of research I came down to a certain model. Except that hunting for us is a family deal. I determined that my wife, daughter and I could not ride safely so a side-by-side it was. I would also be cheaper overall because my wife would want her own quad but wouldn't really use it. Either way I would have too tow what ever we got on a utility trailer because two quads or the SXS(side-by-side) I narrowed it down to would not fit in the back of a truck. Now that we have a SXS it is a ton of fun and really can get to places 98% of most hunting trucks can't, think Amber for the remaining 2%. It is also quality time that the three of us spend together in our outdoors and that is priceless. Now to get back to your question about justifying the money part. A few years ago I bought a "hunting truck" that was used really only for hunting. We didn't need another vehicle when I got it. Now I have to use that truck for school and since we have to SXS it will now be the tow truck when hunting season rolls around. Yesterday on the way back from a day trip to the Sierrita's it dawned on me that I was towing our 'new' toy with my 'old' hunting truck that by my math cost nearly 2 1/2 times as much with the utility trailer and all. Is it worth it? Totally!! If you can swallow the pill. If you think about it we do that a lot in our love for the outdoors. Would do it all over again in a heart beat and we havent even taken it hunting yet!

I love knifes. They are like a cheaper outlet of buying cool stuff because I can't yet afford to buy all the guns and rifles I want. I rarely spend more than $60 on a knife but I have 'lots' according to my wife. It is only around 10-12 from 2 inch blade up to 8. I too have lost a few, like six, that is why I limit how much I spend on each. Now a days they seem to be looked at as "weapons" instead of just a plain old pocket knife. They are fun though!

I know how you feel. I was raised similarly, eat what you take or don't kill it. But over the years I have read a lot on the subject and I have done a lot of thinking and now coyotes are the only animal I shoot and don't eat. I have never gone out exclusively to predator call for them. Only because I don't know how, the ones I have taken have been while hunting fro deer and birds. Find your own way but hopefully you too can help the coyote population from eating what we love to chase.
