Dang I'm on my way now to Globe Circle K to get a permit. Does anyone know where I can get a permit tonight? I'd hate to drive 3 hours just to not get a permit. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you ready for some coues?
OpticNerd replied to OpticNerd's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Thanks Shawn. -
Some of you might have already seen the first 2 mins and 30 sec of this video. Originally I thought I would like it better broken up into smaller sections but after doing so I realized I was wrong so I just made it into one big video instead. 2017 was one the best years I've had trying to film coues in the rut. I was able to get a crazy amount of footage this year. Almost too much for me and my poor old computer to handle. Because of this it's been a huge pain in THE BUTT trying to slowly piece this video together. I don't know how many times my PC crashed on me while working on this. Enough times that I told myself I was time to call it quits and find myself another hobby. Anybody out there want to buy some used video equipment? Well enough belly aching and on with the video. This is my longest yet at a whopping 25 mins so you might want to make sure your good and ready before starting it. Enjoy!

Seems like I would have at least read a story or two here on CW about someone getting bit by a rattler while out hunting but I don't recall ever reading such a story. This has got me wondering if any of you or someone you know has ever been bit by a rattler while out hunting? Personally I only know one person that has been bitten and that was because he picked up what he thought was a garter snake which turned out to be a baby rattler. I myself should have been bit at least three times while out hunting but lucky for me I only step on nice snakes. Are rattler bites while out hunting so rare that the stories are few and far between or do I just know the wrong people?

Some very interesting stuff guys.. I didn't get an exact count but there was at least one maybe two bites that happen while out hunting that got posted. Sounds like a lot of you guys have been extremely lucky except for the people who grew up around creed. I did what Jass said and googled Mohave bites and man those things can cause some serious damage especially to your bank account. One guys bill from after he got bit was $150,000+!! Don't know if this is the norm now days or if this was an extreme case but either way sounds like it can get pretty expensive if you ever get bit. Many of times I've wondered if my gaiters were tall enough especially while hiking uphill but after reading Dug's post about a guy getting hit in the knee I think I'm going to be purchasing some thigh high chaps. And after reading all the other posts I think I'm going to be buying some chest chaps, maybe some arm chaps, and some snake proof gloves, and a snake proof helmet to top it off. Wait I almost for got the snake proof undies don't want to be getting bit by a snake in the old twig n berries. One more thing... to all you guys that don't like to skin snakes could you at least take a can of blaze orange spray paint with you and the next time you move one of these badboys just give it a good coat or two of orange while your relocating it. Now that I think about it it doesn't have to be orange any bright noticeable color will do. That would be great thanks!

Thanks for the comments guys! Always good to get some feedback good or bad. This will probably be the last one I do like this for awhile because I'm going to try and hunt next January instead of film. I really miss bow hunting the rut and it's been too long since I actually hunted in Jan. I'm videoscoping using a Panasonic G7. -

Thanks Pixman. Outstanding picture you put on FB today. Is that snow in the pic or am I just seeing things? -
Here's a little something for those of us who are already looking forward to hunting coues this year. Instead of one really long video I'm making a bunch of short clips. This is part one of what should be a total of nine in the series. I'll try to upload a new video to this thread every few weeks or so. Opening day can't get here fast enough. I hope these videos will help pass the time for some of you until then. http://youtu.be/2e1V8TLGX8Q

Great looking bucks. I really like the 2nd buck with the huge eyeguards. I'm a sucker for big ol eyeguards. Good luck tagging one. Might as well put a hurting on one of those cats between now and opening day.

For those who can't afford the Swarovski BTX
OpticNerd replied to OpticNerd's topic in Optics and tripods
I have an Olivon prism that I use with one of my telescopes and it's a quality piece of optic. If this binoviewer is of the same quality then I think it would work pretty dang good. I just checked and Olivon makes a 100mm ed spotting scope that I think could work extremely well with this. My biggest concern with this would be long term durability. Don't know if these binoviewers would stay aligned after a few rough hunting seasons. -
Can't afford $5000 no problem. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1109977&gclid=CIOY_Z3r6tICFQx-fgod4bYAhw&Q=&ap=y&c3api=1876%2C%7Bcreative%7D%2C%7Bkeyword%7D&is=REG&A=details

I too had a trip planned for this weekend but this dang cold front has got me thinking next weekend might be better. Might as well do both just in case.
-
Dang that's rough. I also agree about not forcing him to go. Taking him and maybe a friend out on a couple easy going scouting/camping trips might help get him in the mood. If he likes to fish and there fishing close by you can always turn it into a fishing hunting trip. My kids like to hunt for about an hour or two but can fish all day if the fish are biting. Good luck.

If I had vision in both eyes I'd be all over this. I wonder if it would work/come to focus with the 100 Pentax. Being that it accepts 1.25 inch eyepieces a guy could choose between hundreds of eyepiece choices. Heck I think I'll get one and see if I can find an eyepiece that will give me 15-20x on one side and 35-40x on the other. Then I could quickly switch back and forth between low and high power when ever I need. I could also use one side for glassing and the other to video through while I'm glassing. Yea buddy! -
Dang! You guys did good...really good.
-
Nice review. As Awesome as it may be it's just doesn't do anything special for a one eyed guy. You two eyed guys are lucky.
-
All this time I thought I would be wasting my time putting in for anything other than a 1st and 2nd choice. Next year I'm doing all 5. Going off the hunts I put in for it's mathematically impossible for me to draw anything but my first two choices that being said it IS possible for the GnF to screw up during that draw process and accidentally issue me a tag when technically I shouldn't get one. This isn't the first time I've heard the tale of the magical 3rd choice draw.

Hey standman how'd the fish look? From your pics they look to be in good shape but two of them in that last pic seem to have a weird pinkish color to them.
