This Saturday Dec. 6th in Casa Grand our Game and Fish dept will present the new artical 3 amendment to the public. This new wording will stop ALL BAITING, USING SALT, OR CONSUMIBLE APLLICATIONS FOR ALL BIG GAME IN AZ. Please send an e-mail or make a phone call to Celestle Cook 623-236-7390 ccook@azgfd.gov. or go to the meeting to voice your veiw of this change. This is the next step of them taking away a hunting right of all hunters, If this goes through this will include but not limit any substance that is CONSUMIBLE or EATIBLE. Per Brian wakling of AZGFD game branch supervisor, the only person that will be legal to put out SALTS, SUPLIMENTS will be ranchers. Guys this is the next step to taking our rights away. Slowly they have been chipping away from hunters by decreasing many dec. rifle hunts, taking away our sept. bull hunts, "Again the A.B.A is fighting this as I type this". Loosing lion hunting 3 months out of the year to make PETA happy, no more trapping, no more money hunts to save our antelope fawns during the spring. Only time will tell what is on there agenda for the next take away. We all have to remember they are here to serve the public customer, the paying hunters and fishermen of this great state! mike

Did we not loose 100,000's of acres from unit 22? would this not account for the limiting water holes throughout that area and really pocketing those deer during that time frame? Since the bow season started only a few week later. Yes I was there and yes we did harvest some coues bucks off water during that time. The point is AZGFD has no facts showing how those deer were harvested, you can only guess. If I was guessing I would think more then half were taken over water. mike

Let me guess, but it is ok for you to use high power glasses and a scoped rifle to nock off a deer at 300 yards with know clue you are sitting across the canyon from? just a question.

Ron, 1) Can you provide a unit by unit archery success for the last 5 years? Number of mule deer/ coues deer by unit 2) Do you have any facts, # per harvest of types I.E. 5 mule deer harvest over salt, 8 mule deer over water, 3 mule deer spot stock, 1 mule deer" dumb luck standing off the side of a trail" same with coues per unit? 3) As for your breakdown of the deer harvest for 22 what is the amount that was taken over bait, also what is the break down between mule deer, coues deer 4) Since we lost our december hunts this year in many units, would'nt it be wise to wait and see what the success is for 2008. We now have lost 1/3rd of our archery hunting, many believe this was our best archery hunting time, peak rut. 5) What is the dept. goal for hunt success by unit, # bucks for archery, muzzy, rifle. I.E 15 coues archery, 20 coues muzzy, 90 rifle for a total of 125 coues bucks for 22? I think for us as hunters, AZGFD, to ban a hunting method without true facts is foolishness. This is allot like our september bull hunts, 2 years ago there was a push to shift bull tags from september to nov. fast forward to dec 2008 and here we are again drafting a survey to prove that az elk hunters would rather wait for a quality bull hunt then hunt elk in nov. Also look at the new draw units for archery deer like unit 7, wasn't there more then half of those tags not ever used even after the left over process? he is right! great Idea. look at the economic turn down it will cause. there are millions of dollars spent every year with this one aspect in az! And yes they are making decions based on survey cards and what they think is good. Just like the wildlife manager of 5a that just retired he would never let a bowhunt for antelope but now that he is gone it appears we may finally get a hunt.

Time to stand up. they are going to present it at the game and fish meeting in casa grand 5th of december. this is another target attemp at bowhunters, we are already limited by 20% harvest based on rifle success. removal of key december hunts. putting units to draws. making mandatory harvest report, " archery deer is the only one". Our success rates statewide are typically 4-6% compared to rifle 18-24% statewide.guys you need to call brian waklin big game chief and voice your fustration, send daily e-mails. to him and the govenor since they have to approve it. Pretty shocking that he is pushing this, since a few months ago he stated it was at the back burner and since the department was in a budget crunch it was not a top priority since the secratary that was doing the reseach was transfered and his former boss Leonard transfered to tuscon. remember. this effects all hunters. No more salt! They are still trying to take away our september bull tags and make them all nov. hunts. the ABA is in the process of fighting this as we speak. next year it will be since they took the rifle dec. tags from us. THEY WILL ONLY ALLOW YOU TO HUNT FROM 10:00am to 12:00pm and again from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm due to high success of rifle hunter tag teaming there hunts with 6 guys glassing for that shooter buck. but if you want to hunt during morning hours you will have to buy a special permit for $300 to do this. guys this is just the beginning to remove all hunting from us! again we are only as strong as our voices are heard. remember we are the PAYING CUSTOMERS!

Well this hunt started with with 6 trips to our hunting unit, we had located 9 bucks for us to hunt. We were not able to hunt opening day due to my daughter having a javelina tag for southern az. We had left at 3 :30 am friday and headed down south with high hopes for her to harvest a piggy, we had went to a place were I had found them on 2 other trips in the last 3 weeks, but with only one day to hunt tell 1:30pm we were not able to find them, but it sure was a great day to hang out with my 7th grader. as luck would have it we also had a girl scout night at the fear farm to walk the corn maze that night.As I pulled up to our hunting camp at 1:30 am sat morning. I had just enough left to pull the cot out and stick it next to the truck, 5:00am came quick, with high hopes of getting into some bucks. Jared was up with the alarm saying Dad lets go. and I can only remember is saying only a few more minutes of sleep! We had hunted tell 2:00pm with only finding 2 does. we got back to the truck and heard a message from coues n sheep. " get down here we need another youth hunter. were taged out! the next morning were up glassing some awesome country. I had spotted a spike coues and he had just bedding in some thick cover when geno came over and said," you ant-gona" beleive this I had a 3 x 3 muley 30 yards from me and bust down the hill. I as we got set up to look for him. "maybe 2 seconds behind the glass, I got a coues stated geno. I had a little buck fever and jumped up like kid in a candy store. thanks geno fot settling me down. 20 min. later magic man geno had his 300 weatherby propped up with a pack for jared to sit on. jared sat behind her and as I jumped 8' off the ground" since I was 5 yards to the left and a little in front of that canon going off." I was just able to see the buck buckle up and run about 15 yards to the trees. an hour later jared found a great buck laying there. big thanks to geno! most peolpe they can only count there close friends on one hand. and I think there are many people that have geno on that one hand.mike OH YA JARED SHOT THAT BUCK HE WAS ONLY 450 YARDS AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we ask him how he thought he did, he said he double lunged him. when we got to the buck he did just that.

I set up the coues, you set up muley's, it's going to be a great jan. chasin them javi's with the big bucks not far away ruttin hard. after takin 6 muley's with a bow the last being in 2001 and now taken 5 coues in row. may be time to give back to them muley's hahahehe

Go cards, though!!!!! there was also brown silverado there, thought it my be you. very impressive what you guys did on that hunt, the number of people off the dugas, bloody basin was in sane.glad to here of some successful hunters . all we need is a 3 win streak to wrap up a playoff spot, sure would be great to blow out St. Louis, frisco, seatle. go cards! mike Yup congrats!!! Just a FYI.... I spoke to some park rangers and g/f about the population of deer on that mountain and they like to maintain about 700 deer but as recent as last year there is aprx 1100 Now this might seem far fetched but thats what they say. I live just a hop skip and a jump from the tanks and have never seen a shortage of deer. JMO- And as you probably know weez got to have our walking shoes on! well lets go hop skippin and jumpin
