I took my buddy Nick to CO last year for the archery elk hunt. We walked about 5 miles working this ridge and Nick was getting pretty tired. We were walking through some thick pines when I looked up and saw a pile of dirt. As I got closer the dirt was piled up like a prairie dog or rabbit had dug a hole, except MUCH larger. Walked a little closer and realized it was a bear den. I said, Nick its a bear den! It was dug out under a large pine tree. I look back at Nick and the expression on his face was one of great concern! He stayed back about 10-15 ft behind me. I walked up, bent over looked in the den and said, Oh S**t!!! And took of running!! I took about 3-4 steps and stopped to see Nicks reaction. I look back and Nick is TRYING to running away! Nicks about 5'6". When he turned to run he straddled a small dead pine tree that was down. It was low at the ends but much higher in the middle. Higher that his short legs could handle so he started hopping side to side trying get off this tree and escape the "bear" that was after him! As he was doing this he was breaking branches off the tree with his crotch. Between grunting, the gear in his back pack and the branches snapping, he was making all kinds of noise! I knew if I didn't say something he might tear "something" so I yelled! Just kidding Nick, just kidding!!! He stopped, un-straddled the tree, put he's arms on his hips and starred at the tree. I fell to the ground laughing. After a few seconds he busted up! I laughed so hard my stomach cramped and I started coughing. I giggled about that the rest of the day!! He was a good sport about it. He hasn't returned the favor yet.

Jcubed, Great info! Good to know. I will definitely look at that pack. Thanks! Got to love backpacking! Always an adventure. Makes for great stories around the fire. Nothing funnier than watching your buddy fall down with a loaded pack! Except when it happens to you! Lol.

What are the odds of that?! Definite winner in the trail can contest. Awesome picture! Any pics after the attack?
-
That's funny right there!!!

Coach your a killin machine! Good advise!

Jcubed, good info. Which Kifaru do you have? How many days can you get out of your pack? What does your pack weight loaded for a trip?
-
Becker, thanks for starting this thread. My brother and I are looking at back country packs. For the past 5 yrs our set up is based off our pack frames. Which works really well. I looked at the Kifaru site. I kinda like the hunting cargo panel hauler. It appears to offer the ability to pack your gear and your kill. I like the concept of the badlands OX but some features im not crazy about. Does any body use a pack that has a detachable frame? (Like the OX?)

Can't do a bivy! I seem to encounter alot of bears and snakes in aug/sept. I like the false since of security that a tent offers. I'll pack the extra weight. My conflict is gear. I sold my 15's because they take up to much room and weigh to much. Looking for a good "one size fits all" for backpack hunting. Any suggestions? Lookin at some 12x50?? Seems like everything is a "necessity". Lol!! What's your favorite backpack (4-5) days?

Whoa!!! -
^^Or this, if I didn't already have 2 dozen Muzzys and replacement blades for them all, I'd be trying these. There's a classified fourm you know.
-
I prefer the G5 Montec. Weight isn't as important as BH construction. Find where your arrow has the most KE. Lost a bear to replaceable blades.

Just think, if this immigration bill passes we will probably never have a republican president again. That's 10-15 million more votes for the Dems. This is just the beginning. Prepare. -
My favorite is a Jerk marinade! Grill till medium. I love Brussels too oneshot. But my wife never fixes them. Don't know why.
