Well I just got off the phone with the Flagstaff Game and Fish office as I was concerned when the public comment meeting would be held for the upcomming hunt guideline recomendations that the comission will be meeting on Apr.21 in Phx. Well after I had to hold for about 15 min. the lady told me the meeting is tonight @ 6pm at the office on Lake Mary Rd. The lady I spoke to couldn't find any info on a public meeting anywhere and had to look at the conference room schedule to find out that it is tonight!!!! That is just about par for the course......they want NO public imput and the best way to get that done is to not inform the public when the meeting is going to take place. I am just about done with hunting this state I have called home for all my 33 years and it is truly dissapointing that my kids will never be able to experience the fun and joy of hunting Az. as I did because the game has been mismanaged to a point where there won't be a huntable population by the time my kids are old enough to hunt. We can sit back and blame the drought & predators for the decline of game but that's not the whole problem, the way it is managed is the biggest of the problem. I want to know when the last time one of these so called commissinoers ever sat foot in the woods was???? Deer herds are just starting to look A LITTLE better and here they go jacking up the permits and Antelope is a whole different story & if they keep going like they are killing them now they will be all but gone in 10yrs. I'm no biologist but I do spend about 100 days in the field every year and this is what I see. I think I will sit out on this years deer, buff & sheep draws and just buy a tag elsewhere as I have just had it with our AZGFD and would like to see my money go somewhere else where maybe it will be put to better use than it is in AZ. AZGFD Hunt Recommendations
coueskiller replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Subject: ready to give up camping and hunting yet? Hey all - If you don't mind giving up hunting, camping and general forest recreation then delete this. OTHERWISE READ BELOW - THIS IS REALLY SERIOUS! The majority of the Forest Service meetings are done already. If you see a road closed sign, bermed road or no "road open sign" please do not drive any type of vehicle there! They forest service is turning the current misuse of our forests against use. We have a few that don't license their quads/OHV's and feel they can drive them anywhere and that has ruined it for the rest of us. Same with camping and litering. We are very close to not being allowed to set foot in the forest without a reservation and only in specific area's. This is a smart way for the anti's to get rid of hunting. please read below and get active. http://www.azgfd.gov/artman/publish/article_729.shtml Greg McBride Trails End Wildlife Artistry e-mail: trailsendart@msn.com From: "Mark Healy" <mark@healyfinancial.com> Have a look at this… http://www.azgfd.gov/outdoor_recreation/fe...anagement.shtml This is a classic case of an incremental loss of rights to use public land. It was just last July that the governor was pushing a “federal roadless area” agenda and her reps told everyone that although some areas of the state would be considered “roadless”, all that actually means is that no new roads could be built. They also claimed that a few roads (not main roads, but smaller roads) might be “decommissioned” and closed. I went to the AZ G&F meeting about roadless areas that was held in the mesa office. The meeting room has space for about 100-150 people and they “allowed” about 20-25 to stand in the lobby and listen through the open doors. The AC was turned way up and the attendees, who were sweating like pigs, were fanning themselves with the handouts. Most had just come from work, thus they smelled like sweating pigs. All in all it seemed a well-orchestrated maneuver on the part of the BLM, G&F, and the USDA to keep the focus off of the public-access rights being lined up in the crosshairs, dissent to a minimum, and the meetings small and short. I notice that the meeting format is EXACTLY the same this year. Did I mention that the speaker from the USDA was well rehearsed in about 6 canned responses and used them to answer all questions asked of him? Even if the canned response didn’t fit the question asked? His prevarications made him look staged and foolish, but he stayed in the game for the allotted 60 minutes—quite a trooper. In short, all of his answers were designed to NOT let you know that a bigger plan for road closures was afoot. Now, approaching a year later they’re making an announcement about a “planning efforts” meeting, but I note that although they talk about “proposed” changes they also make a reference to “the new policies and direction”. It sounds to me like the plan is in place, they’ve sought little or no input from citizens, and these are the formal ramrod meetings to tell the serfs that they’ve been taken. Sure, the presenter will take some heat from angry citizens, but s/he’s prepared for that and ready to take 6 floggings for the team. The agenda to remove public access is far more important than his/her personal comfort through 6 measly presentations. And, they understand this is like branding cattle—after the wound heals the poor saps that lost a few more rights won’t even remember it happened. These state and federal agencies have slowly been infiltrated by the Sierra Club and other special interest groups that intend to remove public access to public land as much as they can. Working from the outside and through the courts has only been so effective, so the ranks are being supplanted with “team players”. If you think I’m crazy and off-base, just read this section about Camping and Recreation: Camping and recreation • Where and how do I camp now? • Where and how will I be able to camp once these plans are final? • Will I be able to choose my own campsite, or will I be limited to identified sites only? • Will I be able to collect firewood, or will I have to bring it in? If they’ve pre-loaded these questions into the public meeting announcement, what do you think the answers are? I’ll bet the answers include a lot of nanny-state regulation and government hand holding, replete with penalties and fines for those who choose disobedience over compliance. I personally don’t like the idea of a USDA rep in a Smokey Bear hat and Teva sandals telling me where to camp. I’m going to motivate as many people as I possibly can to get involved, go to the meetings, and become informed. There might be a chance to stop the government creep. If you guys would be so kind as to distribute the AZ G&F link with meeting times to your hunting, fishing, and camping friends I’d appreciate it. Here’s some additional supporting info: (This ones in action already but people still don't stay on open roads and its killing the rest of us trying to dothings right!) AZGFD Hunt Recommendations
coueskiller replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Hey Guys, Here are the proposed 2007 Fall hunt structure recommendations.....AND THEY SUCK BIG TIME!!!!!!! I am now fully convinced that the AZGFD has their heads shoved so far up their asses they will never see the light of day again!!!! I guess we have deer running all over the place these days..... They want 2 doe hunts on the Kaibab for Jr's. with a total of 800 permits, that's 700 more than last year!!!! They want to move the Oct. 12aw,12ae up to Oct.12-21 and add 550 more tags than last year. This makes a total of 2560 deer tags in 12aw,12ae & 12b when you add up all the general, late, Jr & muzzleloader tags.....OUCH!!!! Also they want the archery OTC deer hunts/ turkey hunts to overlap the archery elk hunts by 6 days so opening weekend of your long waited archery bull tag is going to have archery deer hunters running all over sam heck!!!!! Well I guess once again we will need to get on the phone and attend all the meetings we can to try and make things right for the game in AZ. "Managing today for Wildlife tomorrow" what a fucking joke!!!! They added a total of 900 more whitetail tags, with 6A now having 3 Whitetail hunts. This is definatly the beginning of the end of hunting in Az. as we know it now, heck with this type of hunt structure there won't be any deer left to hunt in 10yrs. You combine this AZGFD bullshit with the Bullshit the Forest Circus is trying to do and you come up with one heck of a big butt mess!!!! Anyhow let's all do everyting we can to try and stop this from happening, not that it will help but we need to try. Later, Geoff -
OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Now that is some serious bone!!!!! If I never had horn envy that did it, congrats PT on one heck of a shed. That is truely on of the most impressive sheds I have ever seen. Do you think somebody picked up the other side? heck I wouldn't think it would be too far from where you picked this one up at. Hope you can match that one up. AWESOME and Conrgats!!!! Later, Geoff

You clowns need to keep quiet about those special glasses and yes I do look quite good in them. And yes you are right I couldn't find a antler out there if it was 5 feet in front of me, heck I've been out 15 times this year and have yet to pick up a antler. I think I will quit looking for them all together. You guys got me LMAO!!! Later, Geoff
-
Don't you all know all those canyons in 6A are full of elk antlers and big one's at that. heck I think GRONG(formally known as Antlerboy) picks up atleast 1 160" elk shed everytime he goes to that glassing spot on the pull out on 260....... Silly goose! Hey GRONG did you ever go get that other side in that other canyon in 6A??? If not I think I will go get her on Saturday and stop by and drop her off at your house. Goofballs!!!!! Geoff

Enviros are kicking you out of the forest
coueskiller replied to audsley's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
This is a BAD,BAD deal. The road closures proposed for the Kaibab and Coco are huge, I aslo agree that some of the roads need to be closed but this is more than that as some have said it is the first step to a sad ending. We need to attend these meeting and be heard, I have seen the proposed closure maps and it's bad, unless of course you and your kids want to leave 2 days early so you can hike 15mi. into your old hunting grounds. Camping will also be a nightmare as everybody will be limited to small areas just off the main roads besides the fact that if you have a late elk or coues tag and we get some snow the few roads that remain open will then be closed due to being wet. This is alot bigger than just stoping off road travel!! Later, Geoff -
I will try to be there, man if it rained up there like it did here in Flag yesterday it's going to be a nasty muddy mess. I was praying we would get a storm like this before the hunt!! Geoff
-
Off to unit 9 to set up camp in a few hours and will scout some more this weekend then back to Flag to finish up a little work then back to 9 on 09/19 thru 10/6.......WOOHOO it's finally time!!! Geoff
