My apartment complex wants to charge $$ for overnight guests. Is that legal?
SWDesertRat replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
Not sure what you'll find in the Arizona Tenants Bill of Rights but it might be a start. Also review your lease and see what 'terms' you may have agreed to unknowlingly when you signed the lease. Good luck...that would sure stink to get that on my door. -
^^ this. I own Kuiu clothing and have used the Icon pack since it came out and it works for me, however I completely agree with this statement for those looking at investing in their newest products. They now have packs that 'compete' against each other (Ultra 1800 vs Icon 1850) meaning they'll likely discontinue whichever pack doesn't sell.

Federal Firearms License Holder
SWDesertRat replied to couesbowhunter1's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
More info. might help. Where are you located, or where are you willing to travel to for FFL? Are the rifles shipped from another FFL? What is a decent price? Transfers can be $25.00 for first gun with varying fees for subsequent ones. Most guys on here are likely to know one or two FFL. -
I shoot Montec's and have been impressed with their ability to cut and stay intact (I like 1 piece broad heads) Haven't shot an elk yet but I wouldn't hesitate to shoot an elk with them based on what I've seen them do to other critters. I'm not doubting your observations but I'm curious if it was user error or broad head failure that led you to feel the way you do about them. Sorry OP, not trying to hijack..

750 - 1000 wolves planned in Az; meeting planned this weekend
SWDesertRat replied to couesmagnet's topic in Elk Hunting
Guys they have talking about this meeting for weeks on the general forums on monstermuleys. I wish i had more info, but i don't. I read what i saw, and that's all there is to it. I'm already getting attacked and i'm just getting the word out. Sorry i guess we should just go back to arguing about stupid stuff, i was just trying....coues magnet, please don't take my posts as attacks against you. I started to PM you but thought it'd be better to publicly apologize. I was speaking in general about rational discussion, Game and Fish generally gets the word out about special meetings, especially if Comm or wolves are involved. I suppose my head is in the sand as I rarely visit other sites except for cwt, we are more cordial around here and I tend to appreciate that more.Anyways, thanks for the heads up, I'm still curious as heck because I feel blind sided by this new plan for that many wolves to be in Az. Historical records indicate that there weren't even that many wolves in Arizona. -
750 - 1000 wolves planned in Az; meeting planned this weekend
SWDesertRat replied to couesmagnet's topic in Elk Hunting
I didn't say we shouldn't be fired up, I just like my facts straight before I go off all cockeyed..makes for more rational discussion especially on such an emotional issue. Can anyone from AES or Cattlegrowers fill us in on the purpose of the meeting? Last post on mm appears as if it's not a public meeting but a meeting hosted by cattle growers. -

Heck of a thread title, you have some additional information we can read or we should take your word for it? The current wolf program couldn't support putting 750 wolves into Arizona. Not enough wolves from the captive breeding program available. Wolves won't go into the Kaibab, that rumor comes up every few years. Game and Fish and the Commission won't support it and it's not an area identified in the recovery plan. Just because some people in Flagstaff and Tucson signed a petition doesn't mean it'll happen. Stop being chicken littles and get your facts right before you start getting people all worked up. This is a sensitive subject for a lot of folks on both sides of the issue, best thing we can do is be smart and be informed to have solid info for arguments and getting other sportsmen and women involved and talking as one voice. -
Lucky break for your cam! Sounds good, I don't make it down that way much this time of year but maybe we can figure something out.

*Brand New* 300 Weatherby Vanguard S2

Bump for a good guy and price on a brand new gun. -
Its already been a long week so my tolerance for crap is low.We are all certainly entitled to opinions, I generally like my opinions to be based on fact. Id suggest you talk to ranchers who have lost livestock and the challenge that it is to prove that wolves killed an animal and then actually getting recompensed at fair market value. Problem is most cattle that are killed by predators are young beeves and not worth much. I personally dont agree with the cheap fees that ranchers pay to graze public land but i sure dont think they are makin a livin off of losing livestock to wolves and it sure doesnt make the ranchers smile about the wolves and cuddle up to tree huggers. Not sure it's worth writing any of this out anyways, most reasonable discussions are lost in misinformation and hearsay on the forum nowadays, but thats just my opinion.

All first hunts are memorable; this one will be no exception and something you and your son will be able to share for years to come. Thanks for sharing the stories and pics with us.

As bad as it sounds, We are already paying for the kids care. Purely speculative but the article implies this kid is an anchor baby to an illegal immigrant mother who had to quit her job because she has no other family in the country. So, we are all already giving our money involuntarily. I hope all the adults involved are charged with child endangerment and neglect and, if their immigration status warrants it, deported. I hope the child is taken away and placed with a family that will properly care for him. -Flame on. I see your point, and Im not debating the source of healthcare and well being for the child; its the principle of the dog becoming the focal point for puclic outcry and defense, not the child. moral and ethical code should place human life higher than that of animals, regardless of creed, color or sex. Maybe thats just too forward thinking of me....

Regardless of the dog breed responsible for the damage to the boy's face, It sickens me that so few people want to help the boy and only ~1200.00 has been raised for the boy while the dog has support pouring in from all over, including the lawyer and a defense fund. Seems to me the child is the victim here and can use all the love and support to get through this hardship rather than making this a fight about the dogs life.

Not to say Im happy with price increases, but its pretty naive to think that any agency or private company can continue to operate at a fixed income in perpetuity. I am frankly surprised that members of this forum actually suggest that a private company could manage Arizona's game on a smaller budget and more affordable for the hunters; hunting would quickly become unaffordable for many of us in this forum. I happen to like the North American model for wildlife management and think what we have here in Arizona is pretty darn good. Talk to any resident of any western state and they'll all have the complaints about their wildlife management agency. Truth be told, prices could be cheaper, but given the elk, mule deer, antelope and turkey population per capita of Az and nonresident hunters in Arizona compared to other western states, it could be worse. Check out the link below regarding elk numbers. http://www.rmef.org/NewsandMedia/PressRoom/NewsReleases/ElkHuntForecast2011.aspx Hunting is something I will always do, making financial sacrifices in order to do so. If you dont like the prices now, make your voice heard TO THE DEPARTMENT before the next price increase, rather than after the fact, as evidenced now.

Completely stupid comparison. If I don't like jack in the box I go to mcdonalds, burger king, sonic, taco bell, Carl's jr., kfc, dairy queen, wendys, panda express, subway etc. . . If I don't like the prices of azgfd and still want to hunt elk in my state I go to. . Wait there isn't anyone else to go to. So therefore it's I pay whatever price these idiots come up with or I don't hunt. If I don't like jack in the box I have about a hundred other choices for a better bargain. Azgfd knows they have the power to charge whatever they want and we will pay it if we want to hunt. That's what the argument is here. Truth be told, no one is stopping you from going to the WMAT, San Carlos, Navajo, or Havasupai to buy an elk, deer or turkey tag if you don't like the prices issued by Az Game and Fish.

You mean the Ultra pack? Is it even compatible with the Icon frame? Not familiar with the Ultra, my bags and frame have Icon on them. Perhaps I'll look into it a little. Seems like they have redesigned the frame at least 2 times with the last go around. When I checked out the 1850 bag and frame last week, it appears fundamentally the same design for quick bag exchange.
-
Yah, I was gonna tell you that. You can pick them up second hand occasionally. Shoot me a PM, I may pull my 3000 off my frame and swap it out for the 6000 and then I don't really have a need for an extra empty 3000 bag.

I have owned a Kuiu 3000 Icon for the past 1.5 years or so, during that time I've carried out two pronghorn and a javelina, logged hundreds of miles and hours in the sticks. It works well for what I want it to do. I can carry a rifle, a bow, and a tripod on my pack at the same time and fit all the components for a hunt that I need. I wouldn't trust it to pack out an elk as there is so much flex in the carbon fiber outers I'd worry it would be an sorry end to my pack. I got to check out their 1850 day pack at the SCI show in Vegas this past week and have to admit that although a slick pack, I'll stick with a 3000 as there is minimal weight difference and more options for gear storage. To each their own tho. I know hunters and outfitters that use their packs, a few have had bad experiences with the carbon fiber blowing out on them and that was mostly due to heavy loads. Initially I wasn't so sure about my purchase due to the design and frame but I really like the pack now. I also have a 6000 icon pack I haven't even put on my icon frame yet cuz I like the 3000 so much. Let us know what you decide.

I know there has to be a few CWT members out there who got out for the first Wyo pronghorn season. Let us see some pics and what season you hunted. The next season starts next week, lets keep the interest up while we wait for Az's deer hunts and late elk.
