Great write up. Congrats to your daughter and great job to you to let her take the lead on the stalk.

Interesting character on that left side. Thanks for sharing! I like the fact you posted one with a water mark and one without. Keeps the haters on both sides happy.

Pretty sure you're talking about a ceramic cone with heating elements on it. Something like this? http://www.processheating.com/index.php?page=Coneheater2 Post a pic, it might help

Good price on a good set of optics. Spent the last two weeks using Kaibabs and Vultures side by side. These really are a good set of 15 eyes for someone who doesn't want to spend more than $400.00 GLWS

The Latest: US giving UN $26.6 million to help migrants
SWDesertRat replied to ctafoya's topic in The Campfire
Not saying what is being done is the right thing to do, but 26 mill is nothing compared to the economic aid that we are sending directly to other countries on an annual basis. At least the UN will earmark the money for immigrant issues. What we send other countries in economic aid and military assistance can get used however they want. -
waste of money yes. ruin your truck and look stupid, no. I agree with trphyhuntr on this one. I've found that the OEM TRD shocks on my Toyota trucks are solid but the after market coil overs and upgraded shocks (front and rear) are superior for continued off-road use and not failing on a long dirt road with plenty of wash boards is key to any travel. If I can increase the front clearance by 2-3" AND improve the off-road handling, I see it as a win-win. I am also only talking about suspension upgrades NOT leveling kits.

+1 for Toytec, call them up and talk to them, they can give you the run down based on what you like to do off-road or if it's about a lift for bigger stance.

Sorry...these are sold. Thanks for the interest.

Any pest guys that serve the west valley
SWDesertRat replied to bowhunter4life's topic in Classified Ads
Nope. Not me... Sorry I dont have any suggestions for the OP -
Nothing wrong with carring an epipen around, get the one with two doses and familiarize your hunting buddies and your boys on how to use it as well as a short list of emergency phone numbers and nearest hospital... check out the DeLorme InReach too. Your biggest issue will likely be storing it in a way that temps won't be an issue, I think pens need to stay in temps less than 85. Ideally you find the allergen and won't be on edge as much.

Thanks...I agree, I'm torn about selling it but maybe won't have to if no one buys it.

If the quilt is bought at listed price, I'll toss in a brand new 6L Sea to Summit Ultra Sil eVent compression sack. Quilt fits nicely and can be seen in the pic. This is a brand new 1 lb 5oz sleeping quilt and sack, a $375 setup for $250.

Ben keeps this trailer clean and his ranger does fit.

The trailhead is about 4 miles from Strawberry, the road is usually in pretty rough shape but you can drive a passenger car to the trailhead but you want to take it easy. The hike to the springs from the Strawberry side is about 4.5 miles, all down hill on the old mail trail (think old jeep trail, with a few narrow points) the trail is an easy walk down but then it's almost all uphill on the way out. I'd recommend hiking up in the morning as the hike up is almost all western exposure and it can get toasty on the way up. I've hiked down in less than 45 minutes and hiked up in a little over an hour. If you're looking for a primitive experience I'd recommend going during the weekday. This area is hugely popular and can get a lot of weekend traffic (seem to recall a forest service report that Fossil Creek had 90000 visitors per year). Some people bring all their trash stuff (beer, wine, coolers, water bottles, sleeping bags, tents, trash) and leave it there because they don't want to carry it back up hill...so the camping areas near the springs can get kind of trashed. People will also hike up from the waterfall or along the old flume road from the 708 road. For more solitary experiences you could walk down the old flume road and then drop down towards the creek and find some nice benches with your own swimming hole. It's a beautiful area, I've had some negative experiences up there from other users but it is worth seeing. Personally, I think late summer early fall is the best time to go, the sycamore, ash, and sumac trees are changing color and there are less people. If you go bring a mask and snorkel and remember that even though there are a bunch of fish it isn't open to fishing. Also, the gnats can be horrible during this time of the year and during August so be ready for that. It's a great spot and it's cool to see all that water come streaming out of the ground. PM me for more information.

Was it a whole egg or perhaps part of a shell? Seems random and a pretty cool sight..that's for sure. I seem to recall that in book about the guy that raised the flock of Osceola turkeys he said that the turkeys ate eggs, frogs, and smaller turkey feathers that they found while going about their daily routine. They'd be pretty curious about any item they'd find. If you've ever watched a chicken, you get the idea of their fixation with shiny objects and such. I could be wrong but it's what I seem to recall.. Thanks for sharing
