Got a new bird dog
naturegirl replied to hunter1026's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Good choice I'm watching a German Shorthair and I'm telling you what I just can't get hunting off this dogs brain. He really likes to hunt my cats even through house walls. His hunting ability is amazing but getting him to not hunt my cats im finding impossible...lol You made a great choice for a good family dog! -
I have decided after years of wet gloves to switch to flip open mitten made of neoprene. So far so good. I'd buy youth flip open gloves/mittens. My best advice is to practice shooting with whatever glove you pick. I missed an elk once because the tip of my glove hit my trigger before I was ready to shoot. For archery I'm almost always gloveless on my right hand and tuck my hand into my jacket sleeve to stay warm.

Seems to be a common theme around town with this lovely blow dryer feeling weather we are experiencing.

It is the Salt but there are other AZ waterways with willows. A bobcat was hanging out in a willow last week but entirely different river.

Guess its a good thing I don't have cable anymore because I can no longer watch the Kardashians. And it's a wonderful thing it's only 3 months til archery elk. Some nasty pictures on this thread of things I would rather not have to see ever! Yucky.

New to a quad. Have you been pulled over on dirt roads not street legal?

License it unless it's only driven around your yard. -

I do the same thing but with everything I hunt. I wish August was here already, then September, october, and December and January. Until then I fish. -
I've been to Boyce Thompson Arboretum a few times over the years, but it has been quite awhile since the last time I went. I fondly remember my first visit when my next door neighbor invited me along on their family trip to the arboretum. I was absolutely amazed with the rattlesnake that was sunning right next to the rock-lined path. My daughter & I went to the arboretum last weekend to attend a lizard walk. The volunteer host Wild Man Phil was awesome and is also the owner of Stumpy the Tortoise. I've met Stumpy in the past and I was impressed with how well he gets along with 3 legs and 1 wheel. Phil's son is already volunteering at the arboretum and sharing his knowledge. What better way for children to learn than from other children My daughter & I took along our cameras as picture opportunities were plentiful. We also learned a lot about lizards. It turns out the tails I've accidentally pulled off will regrow most times, but it can inhibit their chances of mating in the future. It appears that many female lizards can tell if a male's tail has been broke and regrown. If it's a regrown tail, most times she will choose another male with a natural tail. The push-ups lizards often do are territorial gestures and not exercises like I may have possibly thought. We ended the trip with a picnic lunch under a tree at the arboretum's picnic area where there were a few birds vying our attention. Below are some photos taken at the park. Dogs are welcome and water dishes (for the dogs) are provided at each drinking fountain.

Funny I didn't ask about the fish...lol. Anyone recognize people in the photos?

I'm pretty sure my son has done it. I will ask him questions for you if no one here has done it. I'm with your wife. Water this time of year is fun.

My only knowledge of poachers were both younger teen males. One lived with a single mom in a tent trailer in the winter in Illinois. They had no money (I mean none). The teen male would kill to feed his mother and 4 siblings. I'm not saying it's right but he didn't starve either. He took on the role of provider the way he knew how without money. I agree his mom could've worked but she never did. I never was in this situation and always had food on the table growing up. I'm not counting all the idiots who tell me they shoot 4 animals during a season. These people are hopeless and see nothing wrong with what they do.

Amanda really needs one of these hooter calendars!

There's nothing like having a good home security system! I sure like mine. I didn't realize how much safer I'd feel knowing my home has additional protection. I especially recommend them for women who live alone or if your spouse works nights. It's not a cure all but one more layer of protection against thieves.

For Mother's Day this year, my son & his girlfriend took me kayaking on the Salt River. The horses never cease to amaze me, but this was the first time I've kayaked through the middle of the herd. I couldn't have asked for a better Mother's Day gift than this. Plus a very nice man took our picture with a drone and e-mailed it to us. I'm the one in the back teaching my grandbaby dog how to ride on a kayak. I was sure hoping he wasn't taking pictures at first because Koa needed a little time to get used to riding on the kayak and it was a bit of an embarrassing adventure at first. I really don't know what to say, but what a cute smile (please zoom in on this one) These were taken during my feeble attempt at turkey hunting this year. I was supposed to go a different time, but ended up at the Tucson Mule Deer Federation Banquet and was so glad I did. I've never been to a banquet like that before and they do absolutely wonderful things for the mule deer in our state! It was almost better than turkey hunting, but not quite...lol I did manage to see the end of a rainbow (my first) while turkey hunting, lots of deer & elk, and quite a bit of snow but I struck out in the turkey department. REPTILES I recently came across this Gila Monster. I can still count on one hand how many I've seen in the wild. Patch nose snake that had recently eaten another snake (notice the lumpy body). Invasive soft shell turtle I caught with my fishing pole Glossy snake & I thought the picture of me taking this picture was kinda neat so I'm including it too. I do have a long lens, but I still have to get somewhat close. Greater Earless & Desert Spiny lizards A very angry Gopher Snake Photographed on foot at 50 yards (not by the lakes - this was a different unit). It was interesting. They are so different than deer or elk. I felt like I was their zoo and it was me they came to see. The little guy was a complete stitch to watch. He was running and jumping everywhere. Sure was fun to watch. And finally this summer don't forget to TAKE A KID FISHING!

I don't hunt there anymore so it's a mute point for me. They need barriers or the signs at least marked. I'm guessing it's a very small percentage of people who actually have white maps let alone follow them. The whole entire thing is very poor planning. I drive to canyon lake and see 4 fence poles blocking a closed road. Guess what? Nobody crosses the barrier because it's a CLOSED road. They didnt even need a fence just fence poles. And it's not a good idea to improve closed roads....not a good idea at all. Makes no sense.

I follow most rules but this one I didnt. Id be more than happy to follow it, if everyone else does. I dont hunt there anymore so it's a mute point now. This was last year. Just showing how it's not enforced and actually I got a wave. Barriers or even a sticker on the road # signs would let people know. Hunters seem to be the only people aware of the closures.

Nobody follows them from what I've seen. I passed a FS guy on a closed road & he just waved at me as I passed. As I've said before, they cut off access to an area big enough to be a wildlife area. They even went and improved one of the closed roads to do fires last year (improved roads only encourage more drivers) . I don't understand at all. I think they are pretending to do what the government required them to do but have absolutely no way to enforce it. I think it's a bunch of cra and very poorly planned.

Old timers, those who don't feel the rules apply to them, and I'm learning it does also happen because people flat need food (illegal as it is).

I have a lightweight pad. I got it at sportsmans for $60 and it rolls up to nothing and weighs hardly anything. I have a different one I use for regular camping that is self inflatable thus larger to pack. Walmart has some good lightweight bags right now. Got one from tucson for $15 (same bag was $40 in gilbert). It's my kayaking bag.
