ethics? how would you handle this situation?
naturegirl replied to HUNTnTAT2's topic in The Campfire
Here's the problem. Some people lack the "good person" gene and the are going to lack it whether they are out hunting or you cross their path in church. He was inconsiderate plain and simple. I would be very angry no doubt about it. I've had things happen similar to me and so has the other people I hunt with. It is discouraging to me so now a good portion of my hunting game is how to stay away from areas that I know hold more people -
I think 6A is looking good with deer. Looks like I was hunting the right area :0) If I had to guess how many deer we saw in 3 days it would be around 30 with approximately half of them being bucks.

I'm thinking there are not that many of us. I know many people who have horses, but don't use them for hunting, but most are arena horses.

It would be cool to see pics LifeFeedsOnLife & arizonelitefreak or if anyone has any pics they've taken over the years. I sure wish my camera wasn't put away in my pack, but it was. I've seen bigger bucks, but just nothing that looked like him and he's plenty big in my book. I got a pretty good look at his drop tine. It was plenty visible without the binos, but thru the binos it was just that much better. Now that I think about it I couldn't tell you much about his rack except it was good sized with plenty of points. I honestly couldn't stop looking at the drop tine and hoping they continued walking right toward my husband.. Just one of those things if only he was just 20 yards closer. It almost came together, but dang deer just decide which way they want to walk.

Quick trip - not all Fry's carry block either (some do and some don't). I used to get so frustrated running around trying to find block ice. Quick trip is the only place I know that all of the stores carry block. We started making our own a couple years ago with empty bottles. We always have "block" ice on hand now.

Got the horses and now have most of the equip to pack with, but have yet to put it all together for a pack trip. I am very much looking forward to it though. Last year with my husband's elk hide we practiced with it with the horses and it was quite entertaining to say the least, but they definitely got used to it with time.

I'm open to helping others with lots of things, but I don't make it a habit of giving out specific info on the areas that I consider a honey hole. I've argued with my husband many times about sharing "our spots." He is of the mind to share with most anybody and me on the other hand feel I put wayyy too much effort into finding those spots and would prefer to keep it quiet. When the word is shared (even not on the internet) it spreads plain and simple. I would never ask anyone for their special spots either. I find it rewarding when I put things together myself as far as locations. I definitely search the internet for all kinds of tips and info. I myself have never primarily hunted WT and never in 6A. I have hundreds of unanswered questions, but I'm mostly waiting til I have tried myself first and am ready to ask specific questions. It's going to be pretty much all new territory for me and much to be learned, but for now I'm working on figuring it out. I wouldn't mind being guided in the direction of a member who hunts WT with a bow and does not primarily sit a stand or blind. Feel free to contact me if that's you!

what would you do? i need some advice!
naturegirl replied to KILLDEER's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I'd leave a note. We did this once and it worked. We communicated with the guy, shared our schedules, and worked it out. On the other hand, during my husband's turkey hunt this year he was sitting a water hole and I'm not kidding this other man came right up and sat down on the other side of the hole AFTER clearly seeing my husband there. I'd try being reasonable 1st and maybe you can work something out. If not, you are faced with fighting for it or walking away. I've decided if they aren't willing to work something out, then let them have it. Karma is a bitch. There's more water holes, more deer, and alternative ways to hunt. -
Who's Not Afraid to Hunt Down South?
naturegirl replied to John O's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Well I'm still afraid after reading all this. I've crossed paths with illegal crossers once in California when I was at a family reunion a couple miles from the border. It was 18 years ago and it was the last time. It left quite an impression on me. And yes it plain sucks that it's "my" state, but for now I choose not to share my hunts with them, which leaves more tags for all of you -
The pics really put it into perspective exactly how big an elephant is. Thanks for the pics Now I'm trying to imagine what kind of room it will be displayed in because in my house it would take up an entire room all by itself...LOL

EBAY and goodwill/thrift stores are great places to get cheaper used kids camos and walmart is about the cheapest for new kids camo.

and glass and glass some more. There are tons of pigs in 37B and like he said pretty much everywhere. You can seriously pick any part of the unit away from people and they won't be far. G&F's website has very helpful info regarding the unit also, but just go the next step to get away from everyone else who got the same info you did. If you need any additional info, feel free to PM me. Also, try to pick less popular hunts where the odds are greater that she and your kids are drawn. If you want a trophy hunt, put yourself on a separate tag. Archery is always an option

You have to e-mail her.

Part of me understands the rule with regards to stands. Just because you get your stand up last year and never took it down, does this mean I can't hunt there yet again for another year? Or for that matter, if you put the stand up a month ahead of time you are claiming an area that doesn't really belong to only you. I understand and am courteous to other people who have "claimed" spots, but at least 50% of the time we've found the favor was not returned. It's a fact - the forest belongs to all of us and some people share better than others. As for cameras, I have them and I use them, but probably about half as many as I used to and leave them out for a less amount of time. Thefts are ever increasing so I listen to what's being said. I take them further away from where other people tend to go and hide them better, but I know every single time that when we come back it may not be there. Will I be upset? Yes, but I knew the risk when I placed it. People just aren't made the way we would all like them to be, people have their own agendas, and don't really give a hoot about who the camera belongs to. Unless you are going to camp out on your camera to protect it, once you leave it's out of your control. Definition of abandon = to forsake completely; desert; leave behind: to abandon a baby ; drivers had to abandon their cars I feel it tends to border on stealing if there is no formal notice of abandonment with a sticker or a phone call. If my camera is locked with identification, it clearly belongs to somebody who doesn't want anyone to take it.

UPDATE My Yorkie (15 lb) decided last night to go after one of these toads. I'm guessing it did not taste good because he was spitting, shaking his head, and pawing at his face. I washed his mouth out with water which he really enjoyed (not!). I slept with him thinking he may die during the night, but nope he's alive and kicking and the 1st thing out the door this morning he was looking for the toad, which makes me think he did not learn his lesson. I wish they made shock collars in his size because I'd use it. He has this strong inherent characteristic to go after small things (gophers, lizards, baby rabbits) and he is always a very determined dog. Ughh.

I'm picking up my daughter from kindergarten and this large toad (appx 5-6") comes hopping up to where the parents are standing. I nicely tried shooing him back to the grass, but he proceeded to keep on hopping toward the school. Women started jumping back and screaming and a man ran over and kicked the toad. The toad righted himself and started hopping right back to where the people were so I reached down, picked him up by his sides, and walked him as far away from the people as I could get and then let him go. I can't help but laugh, though, because it was kinda funny... When I get back I hear some moms explaining that frogs are nice, which I agree with and explain at my house they eat the bugs that are outside. Then another mom asks me if this is one of those "dreaded Sonoran Toads." I said no, but then after the fact decided to Google it. Well I guess the toads we have here do look like the Sonoran Toad, but I'm no expert. I've picked up frogs and toads up my entire life. I've never gotten a wart, never gotten sick, never gotten bit, etc. I happen to like them and don't really understand how a frog or toad can make people scream and jump around. I actually appreciate all of their hard work (free exterminating). On a side note, my lab was caught playing (mouthing and pawing) with one the other night and she had no symptoms. Anyhow, I'm wondering if I misinformed the mom. The one below hangs around my house. Less bugs = less scorpions

No pics of big deer. I usually can follow pretty good directions I do hope to be posting one of those later on in another forum. It's not a Woodhouse frog, although I do know exactly which one that is although I didn't know it's name before today. Not planning on any face-to-face time with one myself. The dog on the other hand, I'll work on her. She was trained once upon a time, but is a bit rusty. Anyone know anybody or have a dog that was harmed/killed by a toad in Arizona?

Anyone else getting itchy for aug 23rd??
naturegirl replied to Bitter24's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
youre a stronger man than I. because i would have traded her in after that. No need to do that. Before I started hunting myself when I was just along to be out in nature, I swear once when he had an archery shot opportunity on a cow I stood behind a tree, lowered my head, closed my eyes, covered my ears and said a few things to myself about me hoping he missed. He ended up not taking a shot for whatever reason and it was quite awhile before I told him I did that and by that time he just chuckled. Oops Since that time, there have been many, many, many times I've sent animals right to him where he was provided great shot opportunities. I've come to the conclusion that I'm pretty good at that. So I guess I've made up for the time or two or three that I've ruined opportunities for him. By the way....I'm very much ready to get out in the forest. Next week can't come quick enough for me. -
That is horrible! Watch BackPage, CL, etc., for your stuff. I wish thieves would be punished the way it used to be done back in the day. There would be a lot less of them. It's not something I have much tolerance for.

With archery season right around the corner, I was looking back at some camera pics and came across this big guy that I've watched for years. Looking for more info on him brought me to CWT. I'm pretty sure Jan 2012 was the last I've seen him. He is believed to be a hybrid and is a unit that does NOT typically hold WT. I've talked to many people here & there who know of him. Sure would love to see any more recent pics of him or if anyone happens to know if he was harvested.

I had the same choice as you a few years ago. My dad gave me his 7 mm Mauser (been in the family awhile), but I was allowed to make it my own as my Christmas present. I kept what I could, including the stock, but I was torn between making it a 270 or a 25-06. I went with the 270, but I don't think you can go wrong with either. My primary objective for my gun was pig and deer. It was a 250 yard heart shot on this big girl. It's a good gun and I'll have it with me on my November WT hunt along with my bow. Means even more to me now that my dad is gone.

Yes I have. On my first archery deer hunt my husband and I were both sitting different tree stands on the same water hole for 5 long days. We had elk galore come in and a couple does. Well right before dusk I look over and there's a buck about 100 yards just at the edge of the woods. I tried everything to get my husband's attention and then I did a bad thing and I whistled. The deer ran away fast and kept running. Then I wasn't as confident on ID'ing mule deer and WT, but I would've sworn it was a WT rack and he ran like a WT. I still kick myself in the rear for that one.

Well jeeze this is something I've wanted to do for a couple years now, but my hunt is the same week. Bummer. What about the spring pig hunt?
