    New #2 bull elk

A bull this big is sure to make some magazines, shows, etc. But no one wants to put a pic on the cover of their mag that has already been posted all over the internet and everyone knows everything about. Congrats Junkie! I am on the edge of my seat. Oh for money and fame. Got it!

Poaching a lion - updated with pics

I posted this just because. Definitely not out to hang anyone. Strictly just sharing something from a few years ago to see what others think. Lions kill deer and elk - that is a fact. I'd shoot a lion given the chance, but I've yet to see one in person. I would not shoot young ones with spots because that is the law.

Poaching a lion - updated with pics

Here's some of the pics. Let's see what everyone thinks. I didn't post all the pics as there are just too many. There are quite a few of my camera being moved around, but you can get the idea by the pics I am posting.

Poaching a lion - updated with pics

I want to clarify a few things and as soon as I can find the time, I'll post the pics minus human faces. I clearly see spots. Game and Fish agreed with me that they had spots. It was investigated, but as mentioned I have no idea of the outcome. It was 3 years ago. I only post it now because I was curious what others would say because of the age/size of the kittens and it was something interesting from a trail cam. I also was very suspicious just because of him tampering with the camera and then putting on face masks to comb the area. I looked up the regs myself, asked the G&F officer about the reg....all before I forwarded the pictures to him. I need to clarify I do not have a picture of a hit or a kill so I'm not exactly sure what happened, but when you look at the pictures you can fill in the blanks yourselves. Hey sorry if anybody recognizes themselves on the pictures. Guess you should've worked harder to steal my camera.

    what happened to the site

I certainly had some CWT withdrawals. I only checked about ten times over the last couple days. Glad it's back

    What would you do

She can get a lot of studying in during the 3-hour drive and even if you are glassing, she can study if she really needs to, or driving from spot to spot = study time. I'd have her out in the field as absolutely much as possible even if her nose needs to be in a book some of the time and study as much as she can now!

    New #2 bull elk

Why do we have to wait for the story and pictures? Just curious what the reason is.

What makes a feeding or bedding area?

I'm with you and watching for any help on this thread. I so want to get a mule deer in the flats, but like you I'm working on trying to figure it out and am getting a little frustrated with my scouting even though I'm scouting an area I've seen big deer year after year. I've spent 2 days on horseback and haven't seen one deer in the area I want to hunt so I'm rethinking my plans, but it stinks because I know the big ones are down in the flats. I think I'm agreeing with the water, although I just don't like hunting over water very much. My husband and our hunting buddy both took decent mule deer in the desert and both were very close to water. On a side note, we have beds marked in the flats from previous years where we actually saw deer bedded and sure enough 2 years later a couple of these beds are still being used so that's good!

    The Beginning!!!!!

Go get em! You've certainly done your homework. Can't wait to hear all about your hunt Thank you for educating me about the history of the sheep in 6A. My husband and I sure enjoyed watching them on my Coues hunt! They are amazing animals and I basically just sit there flabbergasted watching how they manage the cliffs the way they do. Have fun and enjoy!

    Would you rather

Both I'm learning that if the opportunity presents itself on Jan 1st or Dec 31st I will take it. That is probably my 2nd biggest hunting lesson I learned in 2013. I've always been so afraid of tagging out and missing the rest of the year, but not anymore. I'll just spend the rest of the year helping others on their hunt.
  16. Go get em Brian! You've put in the hours. Can't wait for the pictures

    Shooting with your jacket on

I'd recommend the sock over your jacket sleeve. They sell them that are intended for this purpose or you can make your own. I started off with one, but no longer need it. Not sure if my jacket got old/soft or my form is better than it used to be, but I no longer need it. You are smart to practice with all your gear on Lots of mistakes in the field can be prevented by doing this (something I learned the hard way).

    G&F Catchment Tank Book

I bought the book too a few years ago, but was informed recently all of the same info is online and would be a lot more up-to-date than what is in the book (very outdated).

    The One That Got Away

This one got away once by stealing a fish I'd caught, but it didn't happen again. Here's my 10.5 lb large mouth bass. I apologize for the dust on it. Dang my house cleaner must've been gone hunting

    That was Awesome!

Awesome story! The two things I enjoyed the most is that you continued looking for a hit cow even though it was thought to be a miss. The second thing is you got your wife hooked PS - Great job to you for being such a good "guide."

    Black lab puppies $50

I'll second that. $50 is cheap! We paid at least a couple hundred for one of our labs that wasn't papered, but that was years ago. The puppies look all lab to me. Labs are the best with children! My oldest lab was a therapy dog for many years and my youngest lab is a bird hunting machine. My favorite breed for sure! Someone please buy these puppies so I'm not tempted
  22. It's not time yet. Early season ducks are primarily resident ducks. Give it another month or so. Last weekend up north I could hear the honkers flying overhead. I love that sound

    6A Late Bull Hunt

I was there for 4 days for my husband's bull hunt last weekend. We were in on bulls the first 2 days and then after that it dropped off. We were up high and it snowed for 3 full days. Every single elk track we saw after day one was heading south. I'd go lower towards the center of the unit.

    Taxidermy Nightmare!

I agree and would very quickly get your deer back and be thankful he was up front enough to give you a warning. He could've just shut the doors and walked away without looking back.
