I totally get your point and can relate it to other aspects of hunting, but I don't really think it's a question of ethics since it is legal to do here in Arizona. I would definitely use an e-caller to get started and then most likely branch out into me doing the calling. For a beginner (not to mention a pro), my understanding is just getting a coyote into range with anything can be quite difficult. We do want more dead predators so I say whichever one works then go with it. If there is ever a severe decline in the coyote population, then I'm sure our higher powers would look into discontinuing the use of e-callers, but that is extremely unlikely.

They are a great map. I always have one in my pack.

You really can't beat a good pair of binos. Congrats!

Congrats on a beautiful buck!

It's been an interesting process applying for an out of state hunt. I received the good news yesterday that I was drawn for an Illinois archery doe & buck tag. It will be a DIY public land hunt with my cousin and my first out of state hunt.

So I didn't exactly do what the doctor recommended. A couple months ago, my doc gave me the okay to shoot, but with lower poundage. I'm a bit of a freak about changing my equipment so I decided to wait and give it more time. I have a few deer hunts planned this fall and I didn't want to chance it. The last few weeks I've been using my shoulder 100% and it has felt very good. It's a month before opener so I decided it's time. I'm keeping it to 10 arrows to start. 30 yards

Everyone has to learn somewhere and for me it was the hoochie mama that got me started. It was a whole lot less intimidating than the other calls. I've moved on for bulls to other calls but I still like how cows respond to the hoochie mama.

I've worked very hard at developing my skills to be able to hunt the way I want to. I am lacking in one very important aspect though and that is I do not know how to clean an animal by myself. Up until now, I have been a very good assistant by holding tools, getting this or that, cleaning up, but I've never done more than pull a leg here or there. I have never really "gotten dirty." I like to have all my bases covered before I go into the field and with opening day approaching quickly, I do not have this very important base covered. Honestly, I don't have the confidence to do it on my own and I also still clearly remember the coyotes circling my son's elk kill all night long while we had to hike it out of a non-motorized area. I'm asking for help or ideas. What I really think I need is someone to teach me. Is anyone going to be in 6a north archery hunting opening weekend who would be willing to teach me if I'm lucky enough to arrow a deer or if you arrow a deer, call me and I'll help you. PS-I read some stories about the guys here teaching their daughters to clean animals. I encourage it strongly. It's very easy to be a "girl" and get out of it, but you aren't really doing her any favors.

Who is going to be where on the 22nd?
naturegirl replied to border hunter's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
6a with a pocket full of tags. Friday can't get here soon enough. -
That's crazy stitching yourself up. I'm on the glove situation. I like my fingers. Had to laugh about the mylar.
-
Good point. The lady taxidermist had I think she said a mylar glove that she was using. I know myself. I need this.

Just bought my bear tag yesterday. You just never know

A+ service as always when I was at Archery Headquarters last week to have them look at my bow and buy new arrows. Their dart system is a blast! I was very tempted this year because I believe it is a great tool in prepping for the season.

Cycle Bobs. He was over at Williams Field & Higley, but is out on Pecos & Ellsworth I believe now. He has his own way, but he's always fixed stuff correctly for a price.

That was very educational. Cabela's had a field dressing class today. The description said it was visual and that it was. I started off in the back row, but moved myself to the front row when I realized how visual it would be. They brought in a very stinky goat. I got past the smell and the rest went well until she was skinning the face. The smell and the eyeballs were my least favorite part. I believe John was the name of the instructor (a hunter and guide). He did the gutting and actually made a backpack out of the goat itself to carry it out. It was very interesting and something that would for sure work on a Coues. They also had a second half to the class that went over DIY butchering, but I couldn't stay for this part. I'm glad I went. Thank you to a fellow CWT member for pointing this class out to me

I'm very sorry for the unexpected loss of your mom. From reading the other posts by CWT members, you definitely have friends here that care about you and your family. If you need anything, reach out to them. Prayers for you and your family in this tough time.

Here's a few 6A bear pictures from the last few years. The first was taken with a camera. It was my first time ever seeing a bear in person. It was a couple days before the season opened though so it was a kodak moment.

Where do you store your tag before hunting season?
naturegirl replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in The Campfire
I've started a folder this year because I'm tired of misplacing my tags. -
I've seen other G&F cameras that I know belong to G&F. If it's a G&F camera, I'd be very surprised.

How Fat is Fat? The All American State of Denial and BMI
naturegirl replied to Healy Arms's topic in Hunting Fitness
You did really good It's 100% true all we do now gives us more time on the backend of life. I agree with your doctor that the BMI is a great index for most body types, but not all. I've always had a muscular build and found out in the 6th grade when they did the first BMI test on me that I do not fit the charts. Of course, I didn't understand why in the 6th grade. That being said BMI is important, but it is a guide. When you are happy with your body and feel you are at a good weight, then be happy and maintain it. -
I got a new tent too, but my daugther is trying mine out for me. She's been having a blast in it for about 5 days now in the living room.

We've talked about down south. I do not have the exact details. My cousin is making the plans. This process is entirely new to me. I have never hunted out of state. I followed the directions online. I could not buy a guaranteed tag, I had to go through what they called a draw and there was a deadline. I questioned it every step of the way because I didn't think there was a draw either. It's an Illinois archery non-resident either sex & antlerless tag. Do they have a ton of tags leftover after the draw and then it goes OTC? Possibly. Honestly their website was not very informative. It got the job done, but I like AZ's much better. The doe tag was under $30 if I remember correctly and OTC.

Chicken shoot way out = depression. Not all people who get that low can climb out of it by themselves. Not all are as strong as you or I lancetkenyon. I got 2 calls yesterday afternoon. One from my mother and one from my daughter both telling me of his death. Not many actors can touch 3 generations like he did in my family. RIP

I've done a good job for myself with routines I make up myself. I guess you could classify it more as a cross-fit type program. tire flipping and running with a wheelbarrow of horse poop. I park at the other end of parking lots. I take stairs instead of elevators. I work in a male-dominated field which means I do "man's work" at times. I get outdoors whenever I can and usually that is associated with exercise and I don't even realize it or mind it! Diet really is the key and I personally do not believe in "diets". It is a lifestyle. It is never temporary. Processed foods are the pitfall of our society. From the ground and animal is best. Sure I eat McDonalds sometimes, but I'd rather eat Subway for a fast food meal. Think about it. Let's go back to the 1800s. What did people eat back then (McDonalds was not invented until 1955)? How did people exercise? It was a lifestyle back then and happened naturally because people lived a healthier lifestyle. Increase activity & pay attention to what you eat. You will get in better shape.
