Critter gave some great advice. Wood filler will look horrible on a good piece of wood like you have (mind out of the gutter please). Please post pics of the table when you are done!

I still marvel that I frequently see Bald Eagles around our beautiful state of Arizona. I've lived in Arizona since 1979 and the sightings for me were zero back then, but over the years the eagles are making a comeback and are on their way to being a success story. The two biggest things we can do is take all fishing string out with you and leave no lead weights behind. When my older kids were little we played a game to see who could collect the most fishing string to take out with us. It worked well This is the life Bands on both legs Anyone know what kind of flower this is? It only grows right at the waters edge and only in limited areas. Soaking up the rays She is getting the hang of it! It's the perfect size catfish

Bald Eagle & other photos from my canoe trip
naturegirl replied to naturegirl's topic in The Campfire
Last year I got a fishing kayak so plan up the CWT excursion and let the rest of us know where & when I used to have a boat with a motor that could only go on large lakes and I do NOT miss it at all. I'm thrilled with the experiences from my kayak or this past canoe trip, which was my first river trip on a canoe. I only have a couple small war wounds (i.e. scratches) to show for it from trees and trying to keep them off my girl. Once I realized I should help out & maneuver the front some (not just sit there taking photos), it sure seemed to help a lot. I still kinda laugh at that one, but the pictures were everywhere! I wonder how many people here on CWT kayak or canoe......... (That's a very good link you posted with info on the verde!) PS - One thing I like about the longer fishing kayak is it has storage. I stayed a weekend at the lake with sleeping bag, tent, cooler, fishing pole, etc., just fine. I'd use more of my lightweight small packable/backpack stuff if I was going on an overnight river trip to keep overall weight down though. All of my different hunting trips have taught me well how to pack small & light, which I now can use with kayaking. -
Need Help (Hunting Clothes Layering)
naturegirl replied to couesfreak23's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I started off buying scent free base layers, which were pricey at close to $50 per piece. Now I use hiking base layers that wick away the moisture. I could care less about the scent control because I can control that best with the wind, but what I've learned to really appreciate is the ability to get the moisture off and keep my body cooler/dryer when I'm hiking. I bought base layers from Sportsmans Warehouse that were NOT with the hunting stuff. I have a couple different thicknesses, but these are closer to $20-25 per piece (half the price of scent free stuff). -
Bald Eagle & other photos from my canoe trip

I've heard that the verde has many spots where you must carry your boat for quite a ways. Is that true during the winter months you mention above? The woman I mentored at the javi camp said she sees it all the time where people are carrying their boats on the verde. It's been years since I've been to sheeps bridge. Beautiful trip especially this time of the year with the flowers blooming. JimmyC - No pics of the flathead, but cooked in butter it tasted like lobster tail. Succulent was the word I repeatedly used to describe each and every bite...SUCCULENT! .....The best fish I've ever had! -

No sir, we ate the flat head last night for dinner. Yummy I liked it a lot more than my daughter, but she remains in good standing as a member of the "two-bite club." -

I'm totally with you guys. God Bless the USA! PS - The photo spot must remain top secret per my mother's wishes...lol I'll make a long story short, but as a child she grew up in a children's home in New York. One special treat she received was to go to a camp where she saw a Bald Eagle while she was on a canoe (pretty much the same as what just happened to me). I have heard this story for as long as I can remember and how meaningful it was to her. She asked me this morning "Christina, please don't tell anyone where you saw the eagle. They must remain protected." So I will honor her wishes. -
My 2015 Unit 10 Speed Goat * Updated w/ Pics and Story
naturegirl replied to 6ANut's topic in Antelope Hunting
She's BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I'm sure she has daddy wrapped around her tiny little finger This is a good thread as it is a "rare" hunt for most of us and I love the DIY aspect of it. I can't wait to follow your experience and don't forget, Brian, to ask yourself ahead of time what your game plan is. If it's mostly about score, then you must be willing to go home empty handed (I know this from personal experience). It's a good question to ask yourself ahead of time so you have an idea of what your plan is and from reading the other thread on CWT about game meat, antelope was toward the top of the list for most hunters -
Bald Eagle & other photos from my canoe trip

I can only imagine what my pictures could look like if I used a tripod and was on firm ground. These were from a canoe with a 6-year-old wiggling and a dog bouncing around. Not too shabby considering -
Sounds like a great yard sale! Wish I was going to be on the other side of town

Taken this last weekend. Look at the anticipation as she reels in her fish I love it! She even held a catfish

I just realized I have 6 or so months to "scout.". My "scouting" is just another excuse for more time up high this summer with camera in hand. PS- This is way better than any Christmas present I've received!

I'm hoping to connect with a deer in August as my prep but I'm pretty darn sure I can field dress and haul an elk out solo if that's the route I decide to go. I will definitely remember your offer to get bloody especially if it's an early hunt and it's still hot. So cool you got a goat tag

Guess the Score of this White Mountain Apache Coues Buck!
naturegirl replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
132 5/8 This is the # that first came to mind and I know nothing about judging Coues...lol...so basically it's a guess but I'll just say he is BIG and beautiful!!! -
huge congrats what unit? It's in your name of course I put in for a variety of 6a hunts but #1 was early archery bull 6a and #2 was the mid October cow muzzle loader 6a (I WANT MEAT!!!). I don't own a muzzle loader, but it had high draw odds and I figured I'd deal with it if I got drawn. I'm guessing I got the muzzle loader cow hunt, but I will be super duper thrilled with my first choice :) Either way, I know the unit well and I'm ready to fill my freezer! Did I say I'm happy....so very happy? This will be my third 6a elk hunt and I'm more than ready to close the deal this time.

I'm going elk hunting! I'm so happy! Yippee yahoo!

This is a very interesting thread and takes my mind to future hunts for lots of different species :) Alaska is definitely right up at the top of my "bucket list." I can't wait to add to or edit my favorite list as I move on down the road. Yummy! A mountain lion is right up there at the top of my hunting goals, but first I have to see one...lol Time will tell if it's what I think it will be as far as being tasty or not, but I have a feeling I'm going to like it.

That's some very nice wood working skills right there I've never thought of making my own casket before, but what a great idea and what an honor to build one for a loved one!

Judging distance without a rangefinder
naturegirl replied to creed's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I've noticed over the years that there are very few opportunities where I have time to actually range an animal when bow hunting alone. Under 40 yards I'm pretty darn accurate without a range finder. I almost never have the opportunity to use a range finder because things seem to happen too fast out there This comes from years of practice and stump shooting is the best training in my opinion and targets set up in a natural outdoor environment at different angles/elevation. I also will walk through the desert or forest and periodically pick items to range to see how close I am. it's all brain training. -
I have an outdoorsman tripod full height. I will say it has held up to my hard use without breaking so that is a plus. It is heavier than I would like though when packing it all day. I've had mine for awhile now and I'm not sure if the offer a lighter weight tripod. I'm sure a shorter one would've cut the weight down, but I do really like the option of standing or sitting, etc., when glassing.

I saw you this afternoon heading south on Power

adjustable windshield to somewhat control dust (doors help too), soft top, and mount the tire on the back. Dust getting inside always seems to be an issue though. I agree with no windshield in the summer. Someone may be able to correct me but I was always worried about a metal top conducting heat inside the vehicle and it's so hot here already. I had a soft top and never had an issue with tearing, but did need to take it off when towing.

1. elk 2. duck 3. catfish 4. deer (I really want to taste an Eastern Whitetail which may cause #4 to jump up on my list) I can't wait to try lion. It's supposed to be the BEST game meat from what I've heard.

It's okay by me. I just keep getting that much closer to having elk meat in my freezer
