What would you build, as the perfect coues cartridge ?
Chimichanga replied to Splatt's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Well the 300 win mag was built by Clint Neff, known on here as Stomp. It's built off a savage action. Mcgowen barrel, boyds stock cerakoted by Stomp. I topped it with a Leupold Mark4 6.5-20x50. It has knocked down everything it's been aimed at, so far... Bull Elk at 860, 550, and 200. Coues at 820, 400, 450, 300, and 100. A bear at 200. Mule Deer at 300 and 720. My newly acquired 6.5 SAUM is built off an old 30-06 in Remington 700. Western Precision added a fluted bartlein barrel, a Bell&Carlson Alaskan Ti lightweight stock, and a Seiko extractor. I went with a Burris XTR-II 5-25x50 scope and Seekins Precion rings. For brass I'm using Norma 7mm SAUM. It's quite simple to convert, just run it through the Whidden 6.5 RSAUM resizing die. Hodgdon H100 is my powder of choice, which seems to be the norm for this caliber. The gun itself is pretty light weight and well balanced but the Burris, tipping the scale at just over 2 pounds adds a bit of extra weight. -

Well since my 300 win mag shooting 215 grain berger hybrids is off a savage action I'll have to pick the rifle I just recently had finished up. A 6.5 SAUM built off a 700 action. Loaded up some 143 grain hornady eld-x the other day and I'm dying to take it out to the range. -

Where are you located?

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a canvas outfitter tent and figured I'd check here before spending the cash on a new one. I need a floorless one and I'd prefer somewhere around the 16x20 size.. PM me or text me at 928 322 2962. Let me know what you guys have! Thanks, Armand

Redarrow, I'd like to see pics when you get a chance... thanks. Armand

I agree with 308Nut. A 300WM and that 215 Berger Hybrid is a lethal combination at extended ranges and I know that from experience. I would say it's not the greatest at closer ranges but for me, it's managed to do the job on everything so far from 75 yards all the way out to 855 yards. There is a bunch of great bullets available, just have to make sure it shoots good out of your rig.

Like the title says, I'm looking for some 223 Winchester super short mag brass. Let me know what you guys have! Text me 928 322 2962 Armand

I agree with Stomp, those 215 Berger hybrids wallop anything in its path. In the 2 years shooting them through my 300 win mag all 11 animals have fell and were easy recoveries.

Does Working Out Help You Hunt Better?

I agree with Casey, Zac works out and posts other people's success, Cam works out and kills animals all the time.. huge difference... -
Alaska Guide Creations Bino Harness...
Chimichanga replied to PelaPapas's topic in Optics and tripods
Alaskan guide creations is the way to go. I have the pack with a bottom compartment and that's where I keep my rangefinder on rifle hunts. Side pockets work good for windicator, knives, lense cleaners, etc. Front pouch will hold a few bullets or a reed call. Elastic strap on top is good for the cellphone with a phoneskope. I also called Jaret and we were able to figure out which pack would work best for my needs. Now that they redesigned the back and shoulders straps to not ride up the neck it is even more solid. I'd highly recommend the AGC not only because how easy Jaret is to work with but because of the great quality -
If I could sell my jeep I'd be all over this!

Vowell, I'd be interested in some 215M if you get your hands on anymore!

Bergers FAILED me horribly
Chimichanga replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I shoot a 215 grain Berger Hybrid out of a 300 WinMag. In the last 2 years that rifle and bullet combo has killed 3 bull elk, 2 mule deer, a bear, and 5 coues deer. Each animal was quickly recovered within 20 yards. ( half were dead on the spot kills). Here is a pic of the most recent exit hole from the 215 Berger. A mule deer at 720 yards. The shot was quartering away so the exit hole was a bit far back. None the less the deer went about 20 yards and expired. Armand -
Good idea Clint. I'll post a pic on that thread

How's it going Lark!? It was nice to finally meet you on the late bull hunt. Everyone comments about not smiling. Believe me, we were more than happy in the pics.

Between my brother-in-law and friend we had a December coues and mule deer tag for 27.

I had a guy use my 300 win mag that shoots 215 grain berger target match bullets. He dropped his bull in its tracks at 856 yards..
