Last week my husband were up in the mountains for some wildlife viewing. We saw a herd of 9 antelope, all bucks. How common is that? I know bull elk and deer bucks will be together at times but I did not know that antelope bucks did the same. I'm attaching a photo though it is not the best. They were very far away and I zoomed in as far as I could. So just how common is a herd of 9 antelope being all bucks?

I sent this photo to Amanda looks like four years ago. Around Easter I saw this same trailer across the street from my house. Turns out to be OUR NEW NEIGHBOR! My neighbor said he always wondered who took the photo. The trailer was loaned to a friend at the time of the photo above. I told him I was the one who took the photo and sent to Amanda. One mystery solved.

Most interesting. For more such surprises check out this site. I found this interesting piece when I was looking for info on deer eating quail eggs. http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/news/press/ontape.htm

Before the school year let out I was on my way to work when I saw this Ram pickup in front of me. It was during turkey season time because seeing this decal automatically took me back to a fond memory of turkey hunting with Amanda in New Mexico. Any way this truck stopped at a Circle K in the Kino & 36th area and I stopped to take a photo.

One of my absolute favorite places!!! My first Mormon Lake experience was about 40 years ago, back in our high school days, my now husband and I met at a 4-H event at a camp around there. I remember we could go to this one place at camp and look down over the lake. Any time we are in the Flagstaff area we go always go to Mormon Lake to check out the elk. One morning we were privileged to be in the right place at the right time to view a large group of elk come up, single file, out of the lake area, cross the highway and jump a fence to the meadow area on the mesa. What a treat. Just before sun up on another trip to view the elk, I said to my husband. “Those are some gigantic geese out on the water look at their wake!” After pulling off highway and checking with binos we found it was two cow elk swimming across the Upper Lake Mary. You could just see their heads poking out of the water. Now that was cool. Love this place!

Our Newly Appointed Commissioner
hntnIwlgo replied to tjhunt2's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
TJ, great April Fools. I wasn't on CWC at all last week so I missed it but it still worked 4 days later. On Saturday Sam and I met for the first time one of his cousins. We started talking hunting and of course this site came up. Sam's cousin is Arizona Griz. He told us about Amanda being appointed Commissioner to AG&F. I was "WHAT!", how come I am Amanda's friend and haven't even heard this?!! He said he found out on the site the other day and that you had posted it. I was like TJ didn't call and tell me!! I'm quite out of sorts about this in that I haven't even congratulated Amanda. So I text Amanda my congratulations for her appointment only to receive a reply back that it was just an April Fools. Sam, Chris and I got a laugh out of that. You got us hook, line and sinker. Job well done, TJ. -
In the last month I have seen 3 Gila Monsters in 3 different areas. The first one was at the Junior's Jackrabbit Camp near Three Points. Last weekend I saw the second one in Sabino Canyon and just this morning I saw the third one near Cochran (about 15 miles northeast of Florence by Gila River). Before these 3 I had only seen one other in the wild about 20 years ago on a canal bank in Casa Grande.

I understand when it's cold javelina will hunker down and not be out if the weather is too cold. What's too cold to a javelina? In Tucson today the high was 58 -60 degrees with a breeze. Being a true desert rat, living in Tucson and growing up in Yuma, I must have thin blood. I was cold today. That got me thinking about my upcoming javelina hunt. Bet javelina wouldn't think it was cold out. Seems like every year when I'm out hunting in the early mornings I ponder this same question. So I thought I would put it out there for discussion. What's too cold for a javelina?

Pond Jumping Ducks
hntnIwlgo replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Cool! You just never know when a goose might show up. We've had some surprises but they are few and far between. -
We take ours to Dickmans in Tucson. They make breakfast or chorizo from them. There has never been any smell to the meat when cooking it. When I take it to potlucks at work people don't notice that it is game. I always label it for what it is but people have a hard time believing it's javelina.

Desert Tank Surprise
hntnIwlgo replied to hntnIwlgo's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Our handicapped daughter took our picture with my husband's iPhone. She had never taken any photos before. This was one of about 7-8 photos. I was able to crop this one. The other photos...we were no where in sight. God bless her though, without her we wouldn't have gotten any photos of the two of us together. Thanks, Kenna. -
Got this pleasant surprise at a desert tank a couple of weeks back. Four got away. What fun!
