I asked my husband to go predator hunting with me this morning. Called in a caracara on the first set up. On second a small hawk and one coyote which my husband downed with a shotgun. Got distracted for quite a while by watching some muley bucks. Set up 3 other stands and nothing. What fun! This is the first coyote for our family. Hopefully won't be the last.

Wow! Impressive! What a nice variety! Unit 1 is my favorite unit. Hard to find an area for camera without cattle. What did you put on the ground to attract such variety but didn't attract the cattle?

Dove-Opening Day Tease
hntnIwlgo replied to hntnIwlgo's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Yes, my husband got a nice buck thanks to Timberland Outfitters. The dove was a morning dove. -
On opening day of dove season it's a promising bet my husband and I will be out bright and early for the hunt. It's been that way since before we were married and we've been married a pretty long time, 30+ years. Well in 2011 on opening day of dove season we headed out bright and early, only... not for dove hunting. We were headed up to Unit 10 for my husband's long deserved antelope hunt which was to begin the next morning. As we drove by our hunting area we commented on how our hunting buddies might be doing. Wondering how the doves were flying and feeling awkward at passing by our regular opening day turn off. Rather than harp on what we were missing, we tried to keep in mind where we were headed and the excitement of what lay ahead. Late that same afternoon as my husband and I waited in the shade of our camp for the hunting guide to meet us, a lone dove landed on the cab of our truck parked 10 feet away. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A DOVE LAND ON A VEHICLE? It didn't appear to be hurt or injured. It just stood there as if saying "Nana Nana boo boo! You can't shoot me." I am positive the dove saw us and definitely heard our comments about it being such a lucky bird. It flew off for a while and then came back and landed on the hood of our truck. Once again it was like it was saying "Nana Nana boo boo! You can't shoot me." This dove continued to fly off for a while and then come back and land on the truck a few more times. What the heck? We had never seen a dove land on a vehicle before this opening day tease nor have we seen one since.

DOVE SEASON
hntnIwlgo replied to elkaholic's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
We had a successful morning. My son was done by 6:15. My husband done at 6:25. They made their way over to me at 6:30 and I had 14 bagged. It took me almost an hour to get #15!!!!! Not because there were no birds. They slowed down a lot but occasional birds were still flying over. I just couldn't hit a darn thing. Maybe it was the pressure of having an audience. Beats me. Finally at 7:20 #15 hit the ground. -
That is so cool! Congrats
