If i'm not mistaken the deer in the top pic is on the far right side in the shade of the tree and the bottom one is the back side of the deer in the middle of the picture. Wade

    Who Shot At ME????

yeah, I was wonderin' that myself treestandman. I know game and fish won't bust ya down by the border having a gun with you when bowhunting but get north of the Santa Rita's and watch out. I've peppered and been peppered by hunter's and friends alike so it's par for the coarse. One time my brother and myself were walking a side ridge deer hunting when 5 guys opened up below us. Man, bullets were poppin' past us like popcorn. We ducked and started yelling like a couple of mad men telling em to stop. Finally, they figured it out and stopped shooting. Talk about a underwear check. We figured they saw movement and just started shooting because no deer came out ahead of us. You just have to get there attention.at times it's hard to hear outdoors because your so concentrated on doing what your doing that you don't realize other people are around you. I'm sure Terry's friend didn't hear or see you so it's best just to let it go as a lesson learned for both of ya.

exterior ballistics Sierra has some pretty good info on there web site. they have a table with all there bullet ballistics on it.I put it at the beginning of my reply under exterior ballistics. I hope it's useful to you.
  5. did you guys see the AZ game and fish sight today? It looks like there seriously gonna try to bring back the cap on nonresident permits. they are also talking about puttin' the cap on a lot of the other game tags not just the elk and kiabab deer. sounds like a big step in the right direction.
  6. At first I thought it was in 36b but after I looked at it for a while I too, think it is horse mountain.

    Fire in 34A

my brother is the fire manager in the santa ritas for the FS and that was his biggest worry.to have a fire up in the timber where it hasn't burned in over a hundred years. there's so much fuel up there that it won't be put out till the monsoons kick in full force. wade

    Hunting Partners?

I usually hunt by myself or with my brother. We're both pretty hardcore so we don't share our hotspots with too many people.Once you get to telling people about where you hunt that spot usually goes down hill pretty fast.I've heard too many horror stories about guys taking a friend hunting in there honey hole and then the next year his buddy is bringing all of his friends and family in. best coues hunt

my 2nd deer shot in 91' was my favorite hunt.it was a late dec hunt down south that had it all. the first weekend i saw and shot at 4 different bucks with one being a monster(missed em all, being a young pup outta high school). The next weekend it had rained hard and was foggy in the mornings.my brother had shot a decent 3x4 earlier in the week so i was hunting alone that saturday. walked about a mile in and sat down to get a drink. i looked up and saw a face looking at me from under a tree. slowly i put down my water and picked up my bino's.yup, it was a buck but couldn't tell how big he was because his antlers were hidden behind a branch.I picked up my rifle, took the safety off and put the crosshairs on his chest. At the shot he took off running and my heart sank as the biggest deer I had ever seen was getting out of dodge. I reloaded and shot twice more as he ran up the cut he was in until he hit some trees. dejected i decided to wait and see if he would top out. after about 5 minutes of not seeing any movement I went up the cut to see if i had hit him. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when i walked about 80 yards and found the buck of my dreams laying dead underneath an oak tree. even though i've shot bigger deer, this one will always be my favorite memory. he's the one on the avatar to the left.

    Walk on by..

I missed the biggest buck of my lifetime at 10 yds when he and 2 does jumped up in front of me. It still stings to talk about it now. A monster 4x4 that had everything(tall, wide and heavy). I've watched a spike buck feeding with javelina kick one in the head that got too close to it's back leg. Wade

    How far do you hike??

boy you guys do a lot of walking .I walk about 75 yards and start glassing in one my hot spots. other wise I take the badlands pack and go in about a mile.I finally figured out its a heck of a lot easier to skin and debone a deer out in the field instead of carrying the whole carcass on my back.

blue book values around $275-$300.It's hard to tell without looking at the gun. Wade

    funnels

yeah, I use funnels a lot. Especially in my old chevy. you can get plastic funnels at checkers, pep boys or autozone. But if your more environmentally conscious you can get paper ones at circle K. you can use them for engine or transmission oil and sometimes even for coolant.I hope this post gives you a better idea of what funnels can do for ya. welcome, Wade

    same old unit?

Myself I have 2 units I go between. It depends on if I see a lot of deer in 1 area or the other. If I'm really frisky some years I'll try a new unit (like 30A) just for sh_ts and giggles.
