Coues with a 7mm Rem Mag

I'm new to the big gun game and didn't know much about the possibility of too much bullet. Last year I shot a coues center mass with a 7mm rem mag and 150 gr nosler partition.. Deer dropped in its tracks.. 2 hours later when I got over to the deer it got up like a pheasant and took off down the hill right at dark. Never found the deer. I must have punched a clean hole right through the liver Since then I've decided for smaller big game, I'm never shooting a bullet without a ballistic tip again. Good luck

    Whisker Biscuit and Quikspin Vanes

Don't know anything about quick spins, but my dad and I have been having problems with the regular veins getting wavy out of the biscuit. My dad just took his arrows in and the tech just told him to heat 'em up with a hair dryer and they flattened right out.

    CHECK THIS OUT!!!!!!!!!

For the most part, I agree that they are gimmicks, but if you find a good deal (almost impossible) I'd still say pick one up. If you read the article, then click on message boards at the bottom, one of the discussions is titled "scent suits don't fool dogs", or something like that. Read that article and you might disagree that scent suits don't fool dogs. There were forty something search and rescue dogs used in the experiment and it took them on average about 40 seconds longer to find the people wearing scent control garments. This time was plugged into an equation that showed it to be not significantly differant, but it's something to think about. Even more importantly, there was an average distance of the dogs having to be 10 yards closer to get a whiff of the people wearing the scent protecting garment. While ten yards isn't far, we all know it can make a world of differance while bow hunting. The article says the garment doesn't work because the people wearing them were still found, but the extra seconds and closer distances are at least enough to make me scratch my head Personally, I think the biggest differance you get with a scent garment is that the material is thicker and has more texture than cotton. If I pick up my scent block face mask, and pick up my duck hunting face mask, activated carbon aside, the scent blocker sure feels like it would be tougher for reek to flow through. My dad was in Cabelas last year and one of the 150 suits had been dragged under a wheel while on a rack. There was a little hole and they gave him the thing for 15 bucks. That's a rare find for sure, but if you have to buy a pair of new hunting pants or a jacket anyway, I'd pay an extra 20 bucks for an extra ten yards! -Joe

    Hunter finds corpse

That's horrible. Sorry to hear it. We spend alot of time out in the woods. I expect sometime I'll come across something unusual.

    Nice 29 Buck

You can bet your buck is nicer than the one I haven't had a chance to shoot Congrats anyway! Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll be as lucky as you are. 6 for 6 is HUGE!
  7. What a sad story. Sorry to hear it, but a good story never the less. Good luck with that deer next year! Not that it would make any differance on weather or not to point your gun in a safe direction, but does anybody know if the Ruger Mark II rifles could potentially run into this safety problem. I just bought a new 7 mm Rem Mag and haven't taken it apart yet, but that's almost terrifying to hear that more than one of you have had your rifles go off by taking the safety off. -Joe

    My Brother's 105" Buck

That sure is a beautiful deer. Is he taking it to the taxidermist, or just to the table? Either way.....Congrats!

    Coues Rut Dates

I don't know if it's like clockwork, but supposedly the rut is pretty predictable back home. I've only been home for the tail end of the rut though when the deer are winding down. Thanks again for the info. -Joe

    Coues Rut Dates

Hey all. I'm new to Arizona and love deer hunting. I grew up in Ks, and have been hunting deer on some land in North Eastern Ks for the last few years. I've been hunting with a bow, and just picked up a rifle that I'm looking forward to using to put a few Az critters on the table with. If it's a secret, by all means keep it a secret and I'll figure it out. If it's not a secret, I'd love to know when the rut is for any coues that I might find in the hills closest to Mesa. Thanks. -Joe

    Coues Rut Dates

I know that spot and stalk plays a huge role here in Az. Do rattling and scents have much of a role down here?

    Burris Fullfield II

    Thanks Ben, appreciate the input!
  13. I've read under another topic that some of you think that the Full Field II can't handle the pounding from the bigger guns? I'm new to rifles. How do you think it would handle on a 7mm rem mag? Is this a big caliber? I like the Full field II, and the idea of having balistic plex, but if you don't think it will work out, then I might go with a Leupold vx-II. Looking through both of them, I actually liked the Burris better (and it's cheaper), but I supose a rifle scope that won't hold zero would be completely useless. Anybody have any input about a full field II on a 7 mm rem mag. really appreciate advice! Thanks! -Joe
