Hey everyone, My fiancé and I were out in Unit 23 the past 4 days hunting. We heard one gobble deep in a canyon early am opening morning, and that was it. Turkeys weren't responding to calls. Found good sign, and seen one hen. Any one have any advice for this unit?

Yeah we talked to another hunter, and he told us the rancher had said 3 weeks ago they were calling like crazy.

+ 1 on scouting, if you know a route they are taking say once a day or every other day you can just ambush them like you would any other animal, with no need to call ,turkey have a pattern this time of the year you just have to find it. but calling is fun!!!

does anyone know if the lake store out there sells minnows and when they open? , or when kilmers opens we are going to head out in the morning.

WOW!!!

After hunting hard since opening day I finaly got my first coues whitetail yesterday just before it started snowing. Glassed him chasing a doe about 8:00 AM and got to about 100 yards of them for a clean shot at 11:30 AM. Packed him out about 3 hours in the rain and snow. It was an awesome hunt with lots of up's and down's I will never forget.

actually no yesterday was the best I had seen all month the doe he was with would not leave him for nothing she was so cute we had to yell at her before she walked off it was actually quite sad . They are probly going to be full rut now with this weather once it clears it should be great for january archery season!!

I have a December tag in 24a been out scouting a lot also it is agood unit you just have to glass a lot to find the bucks, GOOD LUCK!!!!

I have heard box calls are quite simple to use. me and my girlfriend both drew a spring tag for 27 also. I have only hunted up there in fall this will be our first time in spring and calling etc. I got a nice hen up there last year , and a nice one in 23 this fall. good luck with your hunt and finding a call!!
