Cool velvet coues. Score?
Tines replied to wildcat's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Wildcat, Cool buck! I don't mean to hi-jack your thread but it's crazy how similar bucks can look. This buck went 107 5/8 (for reference). Who knows, maybe you're close to where we killed this buck. Good luck with him and hope you can connect. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/37469-bens-late-december-buck/?hl=%2Bben%26%2339%3Bs+%2Bdecember+%2Bbuck -

Just awesome -
Been a while since I read it but I'm pretty sure it's any minor child or grandchild that you're legal guardian over, basically. So a little brother (unless you were his legal guardian??) wouldn't qualify.
-
Yes it's legal. If transfered, the tag would then be HIS. Period. Almost like you never had it. Kind of a loophole but in the end, one deer per person doesn't change.

Interesting subject. First of all, G and F doesn't care about hunters shooting bucks that haven't topped out. Hunters do. Even then, VERY few hunters do. Especially when a 100" balled up buck is 20yds away licking a crater of salt and he's two weeks from being 110". He looks "good enough"! But in the end it doesn't matter unless you're into inches. G and F doesn't really care about that either. But here's some thoughts. Just for arguments sake, why NOT push the archery hunts in southern AZ back a week or two?? As it sits, the archery deer hunts down here already overlap with bear hunts and the less than 20 antelope tags for 2013. So with that, I MIGHT be able to understand the concern about a statewide move. But they're also already a couple weeks ahead in growth up north at this point anyway. Kinda defeats the purpose. Along with the elk hunt issues. So it wouldn't make a difference. Point being, the first rifle deer hunt to begin in southern AZ (and maybe statewide??) are the jr. hunts. That's a month AFTER the archery hunt ends! I don't see how moving it a week or two in the non-elk hunt units would make a difference. Salt hunters wouldn't benefit from a move but water-hole hunters might. But here's a better idea. How about an early muzzleloader WT hunt in southern AZ right after the archery hunt ends?!?! Hahaha! In my dreams.

Hunter harassment is a different issue

Just to clarify, some think that "first come, first serve" is the law. It's not. It's a recommendation in the regs and also just the right thing to do. I'll ALWAYS abide by it and that's because I would want the same courtesy shown to me. I'm not sure what a warden could do if two hunters wanted to bicker about who was first. By all means, I hope the unit 9 warden cracks down big time on complete tools. But Just an ethical/common courtesy issue. Not legal

I don't buy it.

Here's the picture. This was on the news a while back. Just like any Bigfoot or ghost hunter show, they really built it up to make it look like it was some crime caught with Google Earth. If you look closely, it's just a dog and the top of a couple of people (given the angle of the camera). As for the "blood". Most likely where the dog was running up and down the dock after jumping in and out of the water. Just damp wood. THEN AGAIN.......Maybe it IS a murder and we're made to think it's NOT!!! ; )
-
Where are you located?
-
Just go buy the 25-06 and shoot the same 110-115gr bullets for both animals. It's that simple
-
Is it on a dock? It's a dog, not a body.

If you could any unit, any time of the year.....

Apparently you haven't hunted 33. Talk about over hunted. As for not considering 36a for a raffle tag, on most days i'd probably agree with you. Don't get me wrong, I really don't like 36a for WT but it wasn't that long ago that the raffle tagholder wounded an absolute GIANT Coues in 36a. Not to mention the Stockwell buck came from there. If I had permission, I'd also post a mid 130s buck taken out of 36a not too long ago too. Something raffle tagholders would dream of. I can tell you one thing, if I had the raffle tag I probably wouldn't go to 36a to look for a "worthy buck" but I wouldn't hesitate to head down there if one was seen and needed a closer look! Which is how most raffle tags are filled anyway, regardless of unit OR outfitter. It's about time and money. Someone will always have the time and someone else will usually have the money. Someday I'll have both!! -
Shhhh.... you're going to make it even HARDER to draw this tag! ; )

A good friend of mine from Yuma has it. I'm hoping I get to tag along for a day or so
-
I'll take it. I've got a buddy in San tan who can pick it up for me if that works for you? Thanks!

If it fits the battleship I'll take it. I'll find out ASAP

I've had a Tacoma for 10.5 yrs now. You can't ask for a better hunting rig, IMO. The ONLY issue I've had is not being able to fit a couple more guys in it (mine is just the extended cab). Which isn't too terrible considering you just beat up your buddies truck instead for the wknd ; )!! Diesels are expensive all the way around. Of course they're superior in towing but it sounds like you won't be hauling anything too heavy or often anyway. I will also echo another post. You won't get the better gas mileage that you think you should with the Tacoma over the diesel. But all around its a cheaper vehicle to run. Maybe someone who runs theirs on veg oil have .02 to add. But I don't know what conversions cost either. Here's the funny part though. You'll get made fun for driving a "toy truck" while they're looking down from their giant "manly trucks" but I guarantee you'll go everywhere and more with yours and far less spent on maintaining it- All the while lasting just as long. I've got 250k+ on mine and it runs like it did when I bought it with no major problems. Good luck.

This subject gets under my skin. Most people who claim it's nasty have neither tasted it or only complain about the THOUGHT of what they're eating, not the actual taste. It's as mild as any game meat out there. Period. But I think what bothers me more is the question itself of "can you eat lion??". It usually implies that the majority feel you can't. And with every stereotype there's some truth. And the thought of people killing one of the neatest huntable animals in the world, let alone our state, and NOT consider eating it is inexcusable. But hey, that's my opinion.
-
And just to add. Amongst all of this, it's easy to remember the number "19". Lets not forget #20.

I think this one hit a little "closer to home", that's all. Mainly because they're a local bunch of boys. In the grand scheme lf things, the ultimate sacrifice is all the same. Military and Fire personnel will say the same. I agree that we should all be JUST as thankful to anyone who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Im extremely thankful for our military and their sacrifice. But today's unique to AZ, especially Prescott. In honor of those 19, their families, friends and co-workers, I think they can have a few hours of praise.

Hard to tell how big he'll get but he's a mature buck. Big body, deep chest. Not to mention some dang good growth already. Very cool!
