    Another successful junior hunter....

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I was lucky enough to join in on the fun with the boy and my buddy (Who shall remain nameless. Because I know he'll read this, never post on here, nor take credit for any giant buck he's taken or been a part of taking....What a LOSER!) I scored the buck at 106" and my friend scored it at 105" and some change. Nice guess Azpackhorse, almost like you've got an "inside" somewhere........... I'm watching you! All of you were dang close on your scores. Honestly, we didn't think he'd score over 100". Then we'd get little glimpses of him and we'd second guess ourselves. In my experience, usually when I second guess my initial guess, I over-judge them by a bit. Maybe that's why myself (and maybe my buddy), weren't budging! Like I mentioned to somebody else, when you're not used to eyeguards like that I guess it's easy to just look at the rest of his frame and base your guess off of that. Here is the best picture I got of the buck bedded. Those of you who went out over Friday and Saturday saw how ridiculously windy it was so we were waiting for both the buck to stand AND the wind to die down. Not an easy feat when you're trying to do it simultaneously! This fiasco lasted for probably more than an hour. Thats when I had the time to text Lance. Ha Ha! This was at 368yds through my 15's.... Still waiting for some genorous hunter to donate me a Swarovski Spotter so I can get better pics. Any takers??? These will do for now. Thanks again guys and I'll pass the congratulations over to the hunter....

Don't you just love technology?! Glad you were "there" too! Although my wife probably disagrees with the "multitasker" label while texting and doing something else (listening to her??). She calls it ADD.... For me its more like ADCD. Definitely Attention Deficit, until the COUES Disorder kicks in...

Been out having some elk fun! pic's!

What a year so far, Lance! Happy I could have been there for at least one of the bulls....... It seemed as soon as I'd be heading up to play with you guys I'd get a phone call with "Another one Down!" Let's go play with some coues deer now! Once again, fantastic job!
  5. As always, Lance is busy chasing some other species so I thought I'd share some photos of our recent antelope hunt. Dan and Chris waited a long time to draw these tags so their anticipation slightly out-weighed ours. That's okay because after some of the bucks we were finding, ours caught up quite fast! Opening day came and went with some good bucks sighted and plenty of smaller bucks like this one to stop and pose for the camera. The following morning started off with a bang when Lance and Dan found a great buck. Lance has all of the video and most of the pictures but these will paint an okay picture. Here's his buck live from the video just before the shot took place. Here's the picture I've got with Dan and his "slightly non-typical" buck. In the mean time, Chris and Russ have been off in another unit not far away playing around with bucks themselves. Not finding anything worthy of placing their tag on, the evening was closing in on us once again. I climbed to a vantage point and commenced to glassing while everyone else did the same thing. That evening, we found at least 10 bucks between all of us until about 3.5 miles away I found a lone goat standing out in the open. He appeared to be "posturing" but I couldn't see anything that got his attention. A short time later, I glanced back to the goat and saw 5 more in the direction he was looking with one out in front giving him the same look. Then the chase was on!!! I knew then that they were bucks (since I was too far to tell and the heat waves put an axe to the spotting scope). The small buck retreated to the trees and the herd buck tended to his does......in more ways than one! By this time, the sun had taken it's final break and the heat waves died off. I could now see he appeared to be a decent buck and Russ and Chris had better get on the move before it got too dark. Finally, with what appeared to take FOREVER, they managed to make it over to the buck. To their surprise, the antelope were smack dab in the middle of an elk herd, with a bull that wouldn't quit bugling. Awesome! Here's a picture to give you an idea of their surroundings. That's a cow elk on the left side. The buck had his head down the entire time until finally he picked his head up and started walking away. By this time, a doe had them pegged as you can see in the picture. It didn't take them long to decide this buck was a shooter so they put the hammer down as soon as the shot came. I'm watching everything through the binos so even when I see the buck drop in his tracks, I'm too far to hear the shot! That was a first! Here's their set-up and post-shot picture. Buck was 322 yards. And finally, the end result..... Needless to say, we were all ecstatic. Bucks with 16"+ horns and 6 1/2" prongs are hard to come by. Great times with some even better people.........

    information on 36 A

Don't let the "key-to-the-ranch" thing give you the impression you'll have your very own coues deer haven to yourself. You'll be surprised at the hunter density in there...
  7. Not even sure if that's what it's called. Anyway, it's a small ring that mounts to your eye-piece of the binocuar for quick access in taking pictures. Anyone have or use one? I figure $25 can't be too much of a loss and it's got to be better than holding the camera to the lense and hold as steady as possible

    Swarovski accessories

    ......must be that good!
  9. I'm sure many of you have seen these. The most common name for them is Child of the Earth. Some people know them as a Jeruselum cricket. I found one and thought it would be a great opportunity to use the Macro setting. You don't get to see too many of them during the day so I took advantage of it... Anyway, hope you enjoy.....

    Some more AZ Pronghorn...

Dave, Way cool! Thanks for the pictures. Beautiful! I'm sure Dan would love the pictures! Shoot, we'd all love the pictures.... You know, Lance took care of the buck and was there for it all. I never saw the hide. I know he mentioned something about the bucks hide and what appeared to be some fence issues. I'll ask him. Send me whatever you want and I'll kick them to Dan... Thanks again lindseyjm@msn.com To answer some other questions. Dan's buck topped out at 83". Imagine if he actually had some decent prongs!!!!!!!! Chris' buck broke his other prong off. We were so dissappointed. Based on how clean and brand new the break was and some other measuruing, we had every reason to believe he was the same on the other side. Still, as he sits, he scored 83 1/2". As soon as he gets his prong back, he'll go 86"!!! BTW, don't forget, we're not fishermen here....
  14. You cant apply without a license # OR the box checked to issue a license. Meaning, you had to have paid for the license when you sent off your check. It's not like NM- you either go cause you paid for it or you stay home.........and still pay for it.

    Thanks Lance!

That's the nice thing about hunting with Lance- he brings them in close enough so if you blow the first shot, they're still in range for a second, third and so on.......

    Shortest deer hunt ever

Nice job! Beautiful buck as well. I will say that the last picture is bad one to represent the buck. Next time pull the bucks nose out of your buddy's crotch before the picture's snapped. Once again. Nice!
  22. This is Ron's first coues deer. He's from Minnesota and this is his 2nd time chasing these critters (first time filling a tag). What a fun time. Also in camp was his son Luke and Luke's friend, Hugh. Opening day found Ron and I going after a buck I found during the October hunt and the evening before. The buck never showed up that morning but he did present himself that evening. Just before we could get set up, he gave us the slip. The next morning found us in a canyon where I had glassed up 3 bucks the evening before from the other spot. We found the bucks first thing in the am but the bigger 3x3 chased a doe all over the place and ended up taking them all up and over the mountain. We turned the opposite direction to glass some more and right away I glassed up this buck bedded in the middle of a herd of pigs. I probably wouldn't have seen the buck if I wasn't concentrating so hard on the spot because of the javelinas. Ron and Hugh, went after the buck while Luke and I stayed back on the glass. They got over to the shooting position and had a difficult time finding the buck although he was still there, just bedded. I gathered my things and ran down the mountain to go help. Just then, I hear him shoot! Not being able to see anything through my 10's at that distance, I ran back up the mountain to get back with Luke who was spotting with the 15's. My butt and legs were so sore from that trek the next day!! Luke said he lost sight of the buck and Ron and Hugh said they thought they hit him. I watched for a little longer as Ron started the trek over to the buck. Not 15 yards from where the buck was bedded, I found him standing, looking directly at Ron as he was hiking towards him. I couldn't get a hold of Ron to tell him that the buck was up but I did reach Hugh. Hugh couldn't see the buck and Ron was still walking towards him. I just knew this buck was going to bolt at any moment! As I'm watching the buck, all of a sudden, I see him drop to the ground! Then about 3 seconds later, I hear the shot ring out. "We got him!!!" I tell Luke. Turns out, Ron happened to look up the mountain one last time before started the ascend up and not be able to see the top anymore. He just so happened to see the buck standing there and dropped the buck at 300 yards. The long hike to the top seemed like it took forever but we made it. We thought we looked everywhere but couldn't find a 1st bullet hole. Finally, after a little more searching, we found a small entrance hole in the crease of the back leg/gut. Sure enough, he hit him the first shot. The buck immediately bedded and stood back up when he saw Ron walking his direction. That's when Ron found him and put the second shot in him. This is Ron, Luke and Hugh. This is myself and Ron, me holding his buck. Hope all of you who are getting out this December are having as much fun as I am!
  23. Nice job, Brian! Congrats to the family!
