    Nov and early Dec hunt

I'll give my quick .02 about this hunt. I've spent some time hunting the late Nov hunt and I really liked it. There's potential for fantastic weather which is always a plus no matter which hunt you have. That being said, this is NOT a December hunt. Recently a pet peave of mine has been people who tell me that they drew the "late hunt" or the "december hunt".......then after chatting with them a little longer, turns out they actually drew late NOVEMBER hunt. But for some reason some hunters think that because it runs into the first couple days of December, it's a late hunt. Like mentioned before, this is NOT a December hunt.. Not to discourage ANYONE who has this tag because like I mentioned before, I really did like it. In fact, next to an ACTUAL December tag, this may become my next favorite. Time will tell, I guess... Great hunt, IMO. But far from a LATE December tag...

    Son's first scouting trip

Yesterday I took my son on his first official scouting trip. I got off of work that morning and thought it would be a good time to go for a hike and check some spots. I'll start by saying that Eberlestock needs to make a piggy-back back pack thing because the cheap ones don't carry 35lbs over 2.5miles of rough terrain very well. Better than nothing I guess. He turned 3 in April and sure hope he loves it like i do! Here's the little guy ready to go. Oh the anticipation!!! And off we go...... How cool is it that we find this little guy on the way in??!!! Finally we reached our destination. Notice my shirt a little soaked through from the "back pack". Also, when we were almost there, the little guy kept saying "I'm gonna pee my pants!!!" Waiting as long as I could, I finally stopped. When I got him out of the pack, he looked down and said, "ugghh, ummmm......I guess I peed, sorry!!!" In reality, my back was soaked through with sweat and his entire front of his pants were SOAKED! Haha! Poor little guy. I assured him that it wasn't pee and we were on our way. After hanging out for a bit, it was time to head back to the truck. On the walk back, we made sure to grab Gavin's first pick-up. You can actually see his "wet pants" in this picture. I got to tell you, guys and gals, this was a cool experience. If you can ever imagine a better time in the field, with better company, I assure you that it will be with nobody but your children! We had so much to talk about and after I gave him a "sword' (broken limb), he was able to fend off all of the "poky trees" and "BIG rocks" that he called "The Dark Masters". Hope you guys enjoyed the trip like I did..........

    A little of everything

Trying to get rid of a few items that some of you may be interested in. BTW, I'm located in Tucson: RCBS Powder Measurer- $45 RCBS Partner Press- $60 Hard Rifle Case- double (almost brand new)-$50 I can't find the key to lock it. But a lock around the handle should be fine. Arrow Fletching Tool- $10 Tru-Ball Release (almost brand new)- $50 Not sure which model this is either but it seems most Tru-Ball's are right around the $70-80 mark... 1 DZN Radial X-Weave 200 Pro Shafts w/Beiter nocks-$75 (These are some TOUGH arrows, I might add!) And NO, the late 70's/early 80's vintage carpet in the background is not for sale!

    December Tags

If they're their all summer......Oct AND Nov, then they will be there in December. Obviously if nobody shoots them. I agree with your above statement to an extent. Don't forget, Big bucks are big for a reason. But just because you've scouted your butt off pre-season doesn't mean you'll find them during Halloween....or Thanksgiving. I didn't! I found a buck in August of last year that my brother killed during his December hunt. I hunted this area during the early jrs hunt, oct hunt, early nov, AND late jr's hunt. Never saw him. Finally, while hunting with my brother during his Dec hunt, the buck showed up. I knew the area didn't get hunted much (in fact I never saw another hunter in there). Some of you guys may disagree with this logic but I feel that mature preseason scouted bucks will be there regardless of the time of year. And the ONLY reason that big buck won't be there during the rut is if someone else KILLS him. Yeah, he may not show up under the same tree year-after-year (or he might!!!! ) but he likes that area for a reason. Although it may not be the "peak of the rut", unless you've hunted the december hunts quite a bit, I can see where you might think they're "overrated". I've got a friend who takes fantastic bucks during the Oct and Nov hunts because he spends quite a bit of time in the pre-season. He doesn't apply for the late hunt because he wants first crack at them. But I'll bet you anything he'd find them in December if he wanted to. Only because of VERY little pressure this area gets So, like mentioned before, PLEASE stay away from the Dec hunts! They're not getting any easier to draw!!!

My brother is going to start reloading his ammo. For the life of me, I can't seem to find a load on any site that seems to "fit" what he's looking for. He's looking into the 150-165gr area. I shoot the Accubond and love the bullet. I know that they're made in 150-165gr but can't find any load data in the "magic box". We're up for any suggestions or possibly a different combination. This rifle will be used MOSTLY for deer/antelope size game. It's a stock Remington 700. Currently shooting the 150gr Remington factory Core-lokts and getting okay results. Thanks in advance..... Jake

    Native Resident proposal

You're right, BUT the idea is to give those who have waited longer, a better chance. And it would do that- as minute as it would be. And the game and fish probably wouldn't have the "revenue" crutch to lean on at all. Because if those successful can still apply for non-"premium" hunts during their "waiting period", they'd have a chance at drawing those. OR, you know that those who DID draw would at the very least buy a BP. So they're still getting their application fee.... There are definitely ways to tweak it here and there and get positive results...

    Native Resident proposal

Exactly my thoughts! The only downside I could see is this: Those of us who are "hardcore" will ALWAYS apply regardless of draw results (and unfortunately THEY know this). Those that aren't that serious??? They might lose interest real quick and drop the sport all together if not drawn for a couple of yrs straight. And we all know what that means- less applicants means less application fees that the g&f collect........

    Theyre up!!!!!!!

Nowadays, any tag is a "god" tag! Sent from above, brotha! Take 'em while you can! It IS a "good" tag. Spend some time scouting the area out. The G&F website offer a great start (not kidding either) so check it out. I guaruntee if you spend some time in those areas mentioned, you'll find a buck to chase after. Good luck and congratulations!

    Theyre up!!!!!!!

I take back all of the mean things I said about you guys who drew elk tags......until March rolls around next year, anyway... I'm a humbled man, folks!

    Theyre up!!!!!!!

Couple buddys of mine drew that same tag and you can bet your last buck I'll be there with them. I am more stoked about there tag than my own. Congrats Jake I was just trying to stir the pot.....I didn't draw it. But my brother did and HOLY CRAP are we excited! But not nearly as excited as I am for myself drawing a Dec tag in another unit!!!!!

    Theyre up!!!!!!!

Thanks for your help, guys. We've got some IMR4350 that we're going to see what it will do. Have been looking all around for the H4350 with no luck (go figure). I think we've got some great leads though and I'll let you know in the near future what or if they turn out... Thanks again..

    Don't wait !!!

It's 245am. I wasn't expecting to read that. I'm extremely sorry for your loss and hope that comfort is poured out upon you, your wife, and your home. My 5yr old daughter must have heard me with the tv on and decided to wake up and join me. I was hesitant to let her stay up but after reading your post, I think I'll hang out with my baby girl.......

    Quantity or Quality?

........or what if you can have both, according to your options???
  22. Tines

    Quantity or Quality?

I'll take quality over quantity........ BUT, like a few people already touched upon, I'd like to see how many hunters are willing to pass up a 105". Like Johnny Blaze said, they're not all over the place. And it's easy to pass them up as we sit in front of the computer. That's a great buck folks.....
