Congrats on getting your buck, Ernesto. What size was your buck? I'll be back down there this weekend with a friend who has a tag for the second hunt. Hopefully we can get into some of the bucks I saw.

I wish i could be showing you all a pic of a nice 3x3 but due to bad shooting, 2 missed shots, I went home empty handed. All in all I had a good hunting trip. I saw 6 bucks, 2 of them where shooters. Most of the bucks I saw where glassed up at long distances. I fuond the buck I saw from scouting a couple weeks before the season started on saturday morning. I got 2 shots but failed to connect. I will be back out there for the archery season.

Sooo, How did it go on opening weeked?

I had my stand stolen Thurs. morning in Globe, so I ended up hunting from blinds at a couple waterholes. Only had one buck come in to drink, a small forkhorn, in three days of hunting. Too much water around, there where four tanks within 2 miles of each other and all are full. Someone did get lucky as I found a gut pile Sat at one of the tanks. Still alot of time left to hunt so we'll see what happens. -
Didn't draw a Dec. tag but did get 2nd choice for 36c Oct. hunt. Oh well, I hope to make the most out of the upcoming archery hunt.

Bullwidgeon, I'm a beginner coues bow hunter. I have never shot one with a bow. If I draw a Dec. tag I will hold out for a decent one. I have killed a few carp deer with a bow, but if a 160 class carp comes my way I will let an arrow fly. I want a coues deer but I won't turn down a nice big carp.

Sounds like you found yourself a good spot. I was also out scouting this weekend and found a good tank that looks like its getting used pretty good. Saw a few deer both coues and muleys in the same area. Also found a small fork coues shed and a 4point muley shed both are white and look like they where there a while. Can't wait till Aug. 22. I'm ready to do some bowhunting.

I still have the first bow I bought in 89/90 it's a pse edge. It has plain old round wheels and a magnesium riser. It still shoots good, and I am getting it ready to give to one of my younger nephews. I am still a loyal pse shooter to this day. I feel they make a good bow and I like the fact that they are made in Arizona. Like 90% of bowhunters I am shooting a new bow with a machined aluminum riser and a single cam.

I have been a long time user of 100grn. thunderheads. They have done the job on various animals. Recently I tried the Rocky Mtn. revolution on a javelina and I really liked the way it worked. One of those two broadheads will be on the end of my arrow when I shoot my first coues with a bow.

what is the most effective way to bowhunt coues?
fuentestm replied to fuentestm's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Using salt is not cosidered baiting in Az. therefore it is legal. Whether it is ethical or not I guess it would be up to the individual. Using salt is very common in Az. I know many bowhunters who use it and I consider them responsible, ethical hunters. -

What do you all feel is the most effective way to bowhunt coues deer? Would it be to hang a treestand and salt the area, set up a blind on a waterhole, or spot and stalk? I think spot and stalk would be the most rewarding way but also the toughest.
