Bump 475$
-
I want to sell my Ruger M77 chambered in 30-06. It is an early Ultralight model with a 20 inch barrel and tang safety. I have shot less than 50 rounds through this gun. The only flaw with this gun is on the wood stock. I carried it on a deer hunt two years ago and it rubbed against a pistol on my hip. It has some surface scratches on the stock that I can provide pictures of. The gun is accurate, but I am looking to build a dedicated long range gun. Price will include rings but no scope. I will also include a brand new set of Lee Pacesetter Dies and whatever brass I have left. Pictures available on request to andygrand@gmail.com Price is 550$ or best offer. I am located in Yuma but would be willing to meet if I can work out the right deal.

Well I just realized that the card I used to apply was lost about a week ago, and so it probably wont go through. I tried to use the "update my payment information" tab on the online site, and of course it doesnt work. It says I need to select a big game species from the drop down menu but there are no choices in the drop down menu. Frustrating but at least it explains why I had no hit. I am going to try and call the DFG in the morning and see if they can update it.

Like was previously mentioned, I put in for a unit and hunt that had close to 200 leftover tags this past year. I have not had any hits on my CC. If the online app system truly made that much of a difference then we are screwed for the deer and elk draws. I am holding out hope that they are not done running all of the CC's, but I am slowly losing faith in that train of thought.

Cody is for sure good people. Most genuine dude I know! Nice buck!

If on the off chance anybody finds a camo covered canon video camera in 34a off of box canyon road please let me know. I lost mine out there last weekend. It had videos of my son as a baby and some other stuff. If anybody finds it please call me at 8018285692.

I put in for this tag on a whim. I figured the fact that only military can hunt there might increase my odds of getting a tag. I have never been there so my question is, what can I really expect? Is it a waste of my money? If I am willing to work hard and put in the time are there bears on the base to be found? I am not even sure I will draw the tag, but just wanted to get some general info in advance. Thanks

Short and to the point. I have never shot with custom turrets, and I am looking at the vortex custom turret.I have killed deer out to 500 yards just by knowing my hold and shooting that way. I hand load and have a load for deer that I have used and will use forever. Process to develop data is no problem. I am concerned the custom elevation turret won't be what I am hoping they will. I want to be able to range, dial a distance and hold right on the target. I have heard that will only work if the scope is on max power, or that it has to be on the same power you sighted it in on. I don't want to lose the ability to use the variable powers. What is your experience with turrets, and specifically the vortex ones. Is their anything I need to do different as far as mounting the scope (i.e, special rings or base)? Thanks in advance.

Nikon Prostaff BDC Scope
andygrand replied to CruiseforCoues's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Hey STOMP442 thanks for the input ill look into that, i really do like the eye relief as well as clarity for such a low price.. What is or where is Midway? Midway is www.midwayusa.com They are a very popular shooting, reloading, and everything else company. Good customer service, but I can usually find what they are selling for cheaper at other places. As for the Buckmaster, you are going to get a good scope with the nikon. That being said, I have owned and shot the buckmaster, and now the vortex viper. I will not own another scope that doesn't say vortex on it. All of the features that STOMP442 mentioned can be had on the vortex scope for less money, and a better warranty. Don't get me wrong I don't think you will be dissapointed with the Nikon, but I know you won't be dissapointed with the Vortex. -
Nikon Prostaff BDC Scope
andygrand replied to CruiseforCoues's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Go to vortexoptics.com and it will show you all of their reticles. The dead hold BDC (bullet drop compensator) is one of their reticles. -
I did the turret process and I can tell you that if you do the Trajectory validation process you don't need the good chronograph. It validates your muzzle velocity reading for you. Very accurate and user friendly process. My turrets are dead on.

Nikon Prostaff BDC Scope
andygrand replied to CruiseforCoues's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have several of those scopes and I like them. That being said if the budget is 200-300 you should buy the vortex viper for 250 off of Cameraland. You will not get the bdc reticle but that scope is leaps and bounds ahead of the prostaff. -
I have one of these exact tents. I have had it in some strong winds, snow, rain, and everything else you can think of. I have never had a problem and I love the room in it. Best money I have ever spent on a camping gear.

Bump reduced to 80$obo

I have two brand new pairs of Bates Light combat boots. These are hot weather boots that are great for hiking around in. I have a size 9 and a size 10 pair. Both are brand new with the tags on them. Here is a link to them on the bates website. http://www.batesfoot...ot?dimensions=0 I am asking 90$ per pair shipped .That is close to 50% off anywhere I found on a quick google search. Price is OBO and I am located in Yuma.
-
No insulation in them. I just checked and the sizes are 10EW and 9W. The 10's are steel toed and the 9's are not. Price reduced to 85$ TYD. These make great hot weather hunting boots, and great work boots. I wear a pair everyday and they are light and comfy.

I have a very good cronograph, and I know the drop at different distances for this bullet combination.
-
One more thing. What is FFP and SSP? I am thinking it is a fixed power scope or a selectable power scope but I am not sure what the acronyms mean.
-
Thanks for the info. I only intend to shoot out to 600 yards with this gun. As far as the data that I give them, it should be very accurate. I am going to be able to cronograph my loads to test muzzle velocity. I use a bullet with a high ballistic coefficient, and I always use the same powder primers, and cases. This set up will be going on a savage rifle, and my intent is to have the turrets work from 200-600 maybe 700 yards. Do you think that would require a 20 MOA base? Is there a disadvantage to putting a MOA base if I may not need it? Thanks again for helping a newbie

First Come, First Serve Tags Up
andygrand replied to SirRoyal's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
are you saying that it is already showing in the draw results the "first come first served" tag you mailed in for? If so, then I am going to be dissapointed because I just checked and it isn't showing either of the leftover tags I put in for. I even mailed the application off so it would be there first thing monday morning. -
Did you have a hard time drawing that tag? I am pretty sure that there are leftover tags for that hunt in 34A most years. I know there was last year and this year. I

Earlier this year my brother, my dad, and I decided we were gonna do our first Javelina hunt. By the time we decided to do it the draw had already happened so we picked up left over tags in 34A. I chose this unit because I had hunted deer there in November. I figured that my familiarity with the unit would be a good thing since my brother and dad were coming down from Utah as non-residents. So fast forward to the day before the season, and my family does the 11 hour drive from Salt Lake to my house in Yuma. I let them rest for a couple of hours before we picked up my 7 year old son from school, gassed up , and hit the road for the 4 hour trip to our camp. I have to back up here and say that I had been talking with CodyWhi for weeks prior to my hunt and he had given me a ton of info about the unit. Living 4 hours away, active duty military and father of 3 makes it difficult to find the time to get out and scout the way I would have liked. So back to our hunt....we set up camp and went to bed ready for opening day Opening day found us hunting an area that looked promising. We were set up early and spent the morning behind the glasses but never saw a thing. That afternoon we moved to an area where we felt there may be less pressure but again we found nothing. The next morning we were again up early and behind the glasses but with the same results. At this point we were convinced that we were the absolute worst javelina hunters on earth. I was starting to feel the pressure of having my family drive 900 miles and spend hundreds of dollars and not seeing anything. I sent out an emergency text to Cody. He told me that he would meet us at our camp and help us out that afternoon. We met up with Cody and his dad that afternoon and set out to glass again. We were battling high winds all afternoon and didn't see anything. Cody told us that he would meet us the next day and show us a different area that he thought might have pigs. So the next morning we met Cody and set out on a short hike to our glassing spot. We spent the next hour or so looking at all the deer that Cody spotted. My Brother and I could glass a hillside for ten minutes and see nothing...Cody would glance at it and spot deer. It was obvious that growing up in the area was a huge advantage in spotting animals. Anyhow, we were glassing a doe and a fawn that Cody spotted when I noticed something moving up the hill and just behind the deer. Just when I was about to say "is there something to the right of the deer" Cody said "there is something to the right of the deer....it is pigs get your stuff lets go." We were about 1500 yards away so we threw on our pack and started the hike to where we thought we could get a shot. After 45 minutes or so we were to our spot. Cody was able to locate the pigs again and we ranged them at 220 yards. The three of us got down into shooting positions and picked a pig. After a 3-2-1 countdown we all shot. My dad hit his with his first shot, but my brother and I prefer a challenge so we missed ours. Now my brother's pig and mine were running uphill away from us about 260 yards away. I shot and missed again, and then my brother shot and dropped his pig. I quickly got on my pig again and was able to hit it with my third shot. After I shot mine, it rolled down the hill and came to rest within 50 yards of the other pigs. After a lot of high fiving and celebration we made our way to the pigs and found all of them dead within fifty yards of each other. It was an amazing hunt for sure. I can't say enough about Cody and his dad. Neither of them had ever met us and they were willing to go out of their way to help. There are not a lot of people like them left in the world, and I feel honored to have been able to hunt with them. Without them we would have never found any pigs. I hope that one day I can pay them back or at least pay it forward. Having three generations of my family in the field together was awesome. I will forever cherish the memories of this hunt. All 3 pigs went to the taxidermist for shoulder mounts. Hope you enjoy the pictures

I have a couple of family members(dad and brother) that are going to come down for a Javelina hunt. None of us have ever hunted them before. I have spent a couple of days hunting coues in 34A but never saw any javelina. I think it was because we were pretty high up in the mountains. My question is this, which unit do you think would provide better opportunity? All of us are in hiking shape and don't mind putting in work. I am going to go and scout probably the middle of December but I figured that things would probably change by mid February when the hunt is. Any help is truly appreciated. I live in Yuma so I don't have a lot of time to scout and will probably only get out once before the hunt. Thanks in advance for any help.

My Brother,Dad and I are thinking about getting leftover tags for this unit. They would be coming down from Utah, and paying non-resident fees. I have spent 2 days in this unit on a coues deer hunt and didn't see any pigs. I have heard they are in there, and we don't mind putting in the work to get them. We will hike all day if need be. Like the original poster, I am looking for any areas to start looking. I am planning on heading down there in mid december and doing some scouting but figure that things will have changed by the hunt in february. Any advice is appreciated.
