Have the third hunts for coues always included two weekends? I don't remember them having included two weekends but they do this year.

I own a Savage LRH in .300 win. topped with a vortex viper. It is one of many savages I own, and it is not the only one topped with a vortex scope. You absolutely cannot go wrong with either the rifle or the scope. I reload for all of my savages and have no problems getting sub moa on all of them straight out of the box. I have a friend that owns several 700's and savages. He is someone that I trust a lot and he always points me in the direction of the savage. One of the things I will say about the LRH is that it is a little bit on the heavy side for me, but I wanted to be able to shoot to 1000 yards. If you are serious about shooting 600 yards accurately it is absolutely possible. I have a savage 11fxp3 in .243 that I shoot 4 inch groups or smaller at 600 yards all day long. I went through the trajectory vaildation process to get custom turrets from Vortex and they are spot on. I hope to be buying another rifle here pretty soon and it will be another LRH in 6.5 creedmor. I wish you were closer to where I live (yuma) because I would let you shoot any of my savages so you can see for yourself.

I am late in getting to this thread so I apologize. I was born and raised in Utah. I have seen the struggles our deer herds are going through and really don't think that predator management is the biggest issue. If it is, I don't think it is the coyotes that need to be managed as much as it is the lion. More importantly though, the loss of traditional winter range is the biggest problem in Utah. I think that factor combined with poor management has led to the decline. The new regulations That Utah put into place this year are a step in the right direction but there is still a lot more that they could do better. Having lived in both states, I definitely feel like Arizona does a lot better job managing their wildlife.

I am by no means a reloading expert but I will explain it to you the way it was explained to me. I will also tell you the experience I had. Bullets like Swift, Barnes, and some of the other solid copper bullets have a thicker jacket than other types of bullets. Thus, although they are the same weight and same caliber you are looking at different densities. A rifle shooting is basically a controlled explosion going down the barrel of your gun. One of the reasons for reloading is to get as much velocity (pushing that explosion up to the edge of the limits of the gun) as possible. When you increase density you increase pressure which has no where to go except backwards towards the bolt. In my personal experience, I loaded some Barnes bullets 2 gr below maximum loads for other bullets of the same weight but different manufacturer. Because of the extra pressure created by the softer copper bullet, I ended up with to much pressure and broke the ejector in my gun. As soon as I backed it down, I ended up with a great shooting load that didn't have the pressure problems. My load for the Barnes bullets is a full grain below starting loads for standard 85gr bullets. Hopefully this answers your question. If there is anyone out there with the Swift manual that can help me, that would be awesome. They are backordered and I won't have mine for a while.

Thanks for the link. I am familiar with that site, unfortunately hodgdon doesn't list data for swift bullets. Being that they are constructed differently than say 180gr noslers, I can't substitute data from those bullets. Swift had their own manual they use and I was hoping someone had one so I an shoot while I wait for mine to come.

I got this tag because I was going to go hunting with a friend. After I already put in for the tag, I found out that my friend hunts with family that doesn't take kids and drives around in ATV's as their main method of hunting. Not my cup of tea, plus I won't go on a hunting trip without my son. So with that being said...I am now the owner of a tag in a unit I know nothing about. Not looking for a honey hole or specific directions, but if anyone has some general starting points that would be awesome. I have the HAM hunt.
