Congratulations! I’ve been waiting to see some people get drawn for sheep.

https://youtu.be/-Vmpmw-tqHk A little late but I was able to harvest a nice Ram this on 12/15/2021. I knew how special drawing this tag was (6 Bonus Points) and wanted to do everything I possibly could to earn this privilege. I immediately got in the phone and called everyone I knew that might have information that I could use, watched every video and read any type of information I could about Desert Bighorn. To be honest Bighorn hunting was something I never thought I would have to think about until I was 60, 70, 80 years old IF I was lucky! I knew I wanted to scout as much as possible. I attended the Sheep Clinic and also the banquet and I tried to absorb what ever information I could. I scouted hard about 10 weekends I was able to make it out. I took tons of video and pictures. I would spend all week reviewing/judging. I wasn’t to big on score but was hoping for a 170’s mature ram. When the hunt came I kept preaching patience to myself. I was wanting to spend time enjoying the hunt and that I did. I had lots of help from a lot of friends that made it when they could. The weather was perfect, it was overcast a few days, some light rain and highs in the upper 60’s. After seeing on average of about 10 or so different rams a day over different country, I finally found the Ram I wanted to take a shot at on Tuesday evening. We bedded him down and made a plan that he was there in the morning I would try and take him. Wednesday morning we had to walk in about a mile and there he was up and feeding. My buddy Marcos Ranged him at 600 yards I settled in with a nice cliff on my right, reminding myself not to get to excited and fall over. 610 yards, a little further than I was wanting to shoot but I was comfortable, we made it happen. I definitely couldn’t be anymore appreciative of the tag I had I understood and soaked it all in! Thanks to everyone’s advice and help, the wife of course, my family who helped wherever I needed, my 10 year old Brody who could only be out there 4 days because of school getting into the way! my friends with Ace in the Hole Outfitters Marcos, Jon and Ramon. Friends that helped glass, give advice and anything else I needed, Gabe, Brian Myers Matt, Drew, Craig, Kile, Ogle a long list that I’m sure I’m forgetting a lot of people by they know who they are. Also big thanks to Jon with Ace in the Hole in putting together this video for this once in a lifetime hunt !

Ragged tops are gnarly glassed a lot of younger rams on there I never hiked it. There’s a drinker on top of it I’d like to hike in check it out and glass one day. I have pictures on another post I put on here of a scouting trip and there is a couple young rams where if they took a wrong step they were goners! -

I was the last person I thought would be getting a tag this early. The reason I only had 6 points is because I never put in because I knew I would never get drawn! Guess I’m proof there is always a slim chance! -
Glassed it up last week but it was getting a little late so I figured it would be safe for another week.

I had 6 points I use to never apply because I didn’t want to wait 30 years. Every once in a while you see that lucky hunter who gets that out of nowhere Arron Rodgers Hail Mary ram tag with no where near the points everyone else has. I couldn’t believe I got it! I don’t even look for that $300 charge when g and f starts pulling money. But hey I’ll take it and make the most out of it !

Drew my second choice 37A! I had the 2100 taken out but I still wasn’t sure how game and fish was gonna play it out if they had screw up and we’re gonna give tags back to maybe people who had the incorrect balance. Finally got to be 100% when I seen it this morning. I wasn’t expecting this tag for another 20/30 years. Ready to get behind some glass

I am shooting a howa 1500 .300 win, a vortex 4x16x 50mm hslr. I shot yesterday and I am all over the place I have a good rest and cannot get a group under4-6 inches at 50yds. I also had another guy who I know shoots very good and shoots clovers consistently shoot my rifle an he had the same results, last night we took the scope off scope mounts checked everything retorqued everything to spec, checked the action screws under the rifle and same result, I called howa and they said they recommend 180gr and think that it might be off because the bullet is comin out of the muzzle to fast to stabilize. Does this sound like the problem or could they just be blowing smoke?!
-
I muzzle break is not the culprit so on to the scope this afternoon.. I called both howa and vortex. If something is wrong with rifle I'm pretty much screwed as adding a muzzle break voids the warranty so.. Live and learn i will be testing and proving my rifle out of the box instead of trusting it is on. Not saying that's the problem yet but that's something I will do for on now. Vortex is thinking I have the scope rings torqued to much at 20lbs with my rings they say no less than 16 lbs and no more than 18lbs per in/lbs. over tightening is one of their most common calls. They re saying it affects a free floating tube inside that will give me the result I am gettig. So now I am hoping that is what is going on and it's an easy fix.
-
Ya I re checked everything on the scope and bases yesterday the next step I will do today is I took the muzzle break off and will shoot again, my thoughts are if it shoots the same it is not the the muzzle break( not gasses or crown) that is making the bullet jump around. If it still shoots jacked up my next step is take this scope off and put it on a proven rifle so I can figure if it is my scope or if it is my rifle..
-
Ya my bases are set at 15 in/lbs on the base. And 20in/lbs on the scope
-
Pressure point? I have taken anything off the rifle unless my gun smith would have to remove the stock to put on a muzzle break I wouldn't know

Can't figure out the whole picture thing... But out of six shots ... First was 2in to the left of the bullseye second was 4in high and to the right, 2 o clock from the bullseye, 3rd was an 2 3/4in directly above bullseye, 4th was 2" high almost touching 3rd shot, 5th was bout 6-7" directly above bullseye 6th was bout 5" directly to the right of the bullseye, pretty much everywhere in my opinion
-
I hope to reload eventually but for right now I have to stick to the factory.. It could very well be anything it seems like guess I'm just gonna have to start with one and work my way down the stock will probably have to be last I think, like 308 said there has to be some serious shits goin on to be that bad at 50yds.

Think the barrel could be jacked that's what a friend of mine thinks that it is the barrel or bad head spacing?
