Thanks for the info. Wow a muley hunt in December during the rut. Agree it will put a hurt on some of the units. I've been hunting Az for 28 years now and I can't recall a Dec rifle muley hunt. Only auction and governors tags. Should be interesting this May.

Hey Sundevil, Week'nd WaRRior here. My name came from my buddies amazed at how I'd do major damage bass fishing during the weekends. I agree the first hunt was a zoo. Down in 36b by Ruby you'd have idiots firing off there rifles at night, hootin and hollering, just plain getting jacked up all night. I found that with the 10 day hunts you could cover the whole unit more, and have multiple places to hunt. And both weekends getting off of work on fridays always seemed to be fine with the bosses, unlike thurs-mon, or mon-thurs now.

Don't hunt this unit but maybe a suggestion. I've found that severe forest fires will drive the deer out or bring them back in a couple weeks after the fire. Yeah most guys will want to hunt in the mountains, but whats wrong with the flats and finger canyons at the base of the mountains. That's where I've found them after severe fires before, and seems some big bucks during the rut prefer that type of terrain. Look at other places were the other guys are'nt hunting. Do yourself a favor and scout next weekend during the third general hunt. You'll get a pretty good idea of where the other hunters are concentrating. You have an Az premium tag, don't blow your chances. Start Scouting now and you'll find them. Good Luck!

I love this unit, won't hunt any other if I can. Deer throughout the unit and if you scout correctly you'll never see another hunter the whole time on your hunt. Illegals, yeah years ago but have'nt seen them lately. Does not mean they're not there though. It seems that the illegal activity has switched to the west side of the mountain range, but still be aware of your surroundings. There's some bruiser bucks in there so it all depends on you. If your concerned about the full moon use the yearly farmers almanac for moon phases before your hunt. I don't like hunting on a full moon so as soon as the regs come out I determine what hunts will be best suited for us, with the other guys approval of course. Now i have found that it's totally different during the late archery season. That full moon it seems drives those bucks wild. It's weird how mother nature acts, as I seem to catch my best bass during full moon nights. Hope this helps.

Oh man what a bummer. Hope you get it back. That's a hard lesson for a Ten year old to learn. Poor little guy.

Not funny at all. They did'nt run from you. Seems like the way they're moving maybe they had seen other hunters in your area. Locked and loaded is how I would've been. I'm American/Mexican and I would of let them have it in Spanish!
