Coues meat or Mule deer meat?
Jason replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I have only had Coues Deer and Elk and think they are both very good. I believe it is how you take care of the meat from the time you get the animal down to the table. I am suprised to hear so many people like Javelina. I have never tried it and have always given them to my old neighbor that used the meat to make Tamale's. I defiantly will be keeping the next Javelina i get and try it for myself. I have already received a call a few weeks ago from my old neigbor reminding me that she wanted my Javelina if i got one, i guess that should have been a clue but have always heard that the meat wasn't very good. Thanks Scott for keeping us informed of your daily activities and it sounds like you had a great time.

Good Luck Scott on your last day. I agree with Bullwidgeon that good things come to those who wait. 27 looks like beautiful country and can't think of a better way to end the year then in the outdoors. Good Luck Scott, Amanda, and anyone else out hunting. Jason Happy New Years

More D and Ernesto, I'm working also so some of my fellow employee's with kids could have this week off. If i had a Rifle tag in hand though i would be out hunting(i prefer the last week in Dec). Going to try and get out on New Years Day to do some bow hunting and check a trail camera i left behind last time. Can't wait to get out in the hills. Today is going to be a long day.

Scott, Those are nice sheds but did you pull the trigger? Thanks Again Scott for the daily journal

Thank You. I never researched a Taxidermist before my December hunt last year was my first mistake. But i just had a second surgery to repair my ankle in the first week of December and was told by the Doctor that i wasn't going hunting any time soon. But i still figure out a way and he didn't understand my love for the outdoors and hunting the Grey Ghost so i had to hoble around. Since then i have researched a few Taxidermist that i really like depending on where i am hunting and don't mind waiting as long as it is good work. Just hope i didn't screw up with this one.

I Bow hunted in 23 on Sunday. Seen 4 Mule Deer, 8 Coues Doe, and 2 bucks but one was a small fork horn and the other was a nice 80 inch buck. But 200yrds to far. Set up a trail camera at my new honey hole that i found so we'll see how good it will be. Scott, I also love hearing your daily activities while your out hunting, Coues Pictures, and the great Elk pictures. Thank You Amanda, Very impressed that you solo backpacked for a few days and good luck. And Good Luck to everyone who is hunting.

Allen, I was in Don's Sport Shop today and talked to a gentleman that i believe his first name was Woody (Farmsworth ?). He had a rack with him that he had just killed in Mexico that gross 128. This was a hog of a deer with ton of cheaters. I think he left a picture there and thought you knew some of those guys that work there and might beable to get a picture and possibly the story to post on Amanda's site. I have not been able to think of anything but this rack since holding it, a true monster. Jason

I just read a great article in the Bowhunter Magazine about archery Coues Deer in Northern AZ. It was written by Jim Van Norman. If you don't get this magazine and want to read the article send me a email with your fax #. Jason

I know he does great work and he is real busy but i'm very impatient and just wasn't forsure if this was the norm since this is the first deer that i've had mounted. Thanks everyone.

Great Deer!!

Coueshunter, His name is Bill Bishop and the article say's he is a retired outfitter. Sounds like Bill is about as knowegeable at hunting Coues with a bow as i have heard or read.

I second that

I found this article on the King Outdoor World Website: Pope & Young Changes % Let-Off Rule! -posted 12/04/03 Pope & Young Club has voted to override the 65% let-off rule for all potential entries. The proposal called for a change to the Records Program, whereby the Club would begin accepting entries harvested by compound bows that have let-off greater than 65% (provided they are legal, in the state/province where used, AND meet the Club's remaining definition of a hunting bow). Any record book entry with a compound bow exceeding 65% in let-off will be listed with an asterisk (*) in the Records and in the record books. The proposal also called for the production of a periodic, specialty book that would contain only animals harvested with "traditional" bows (recurve bows, longbows and self bows), in addition to them being listed in the all-time record books. About time in my opinion! Jason

Crazyaboutcoues, That is a great deer your buddy took and good eating. Do you know what he score? My guess is around 155 gross. I've been thinking about buying a landowner tag in Kansas or Nebraska next year if i don't get drawn in NM or AZ. Good luck on your hunt. Jason

Crazyaboutcoues, After seeing Scott's setup you will be living like a king on your hunt. Good Luck How did you do in Kansas for the other Whitetail? Jason
