Gunsmith in Flagstaff?
IA Born replied to Hanksaiditbest's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Seth Staples over in Parks. He owns Rim Country Custom Rifles and does great work. He's done all of my trigger work and installed three Vais brakes now. Absolutely can't go wrong with Seth. I can pm you his info if you want. PM me if you do, since I'm on a conference call most of the day and won't see much here. -
Highs and Lows - Life stops for life-threatening illnesses
IA Born replied to 1uglydude's topic in The Campfire
You and your family have been on my mind and in our prayers since you first brought me in, Jack. I've been a full-time caregiver for a cancer patient (my mom) and I know how bad it can take a toll on you. Remember to take care of yourself and for Annie to do the same thing. If you don't, you're no good to Gabi and Ezra. I learned that the hard way, but not taking care of myself. Having said that, I know how tough it is to do just that. It was hard enough watching my mom battle, but I can't imagine watching my little girl. Don't be surprised if I give you a hug the next time we cross paths. Gabi is a tough, beautiful girl and she'll win this fight! I'm always just a phone call or text away and two hours north if you need to get out and clear your mind. I know you have a great support group down there, but you've always got a friend up north. -
I wanted to get the word out about the scholarship our Flagstaff chapter of the NWTF (Northern Arizona Chapter) offers to seniors in high school in Flagstaff and other northern Arizona cities. Congrats! Hunting with my kids, especially my daughter, is my favorite!

Awesome pics! A couple of weeks ago, the local gray fox at our office here in Flag shot out of a grass clump six feet from me as I was walking to the back door. We were 10 feet from the door when he exploded. Three of my coworkers were looking out the 2nd floor window, watching him when I walked up. They got a great laugh at me jumping and almost peeing myself! I gathered my wits and followed him around the corner. He was looking back at me and let me snap a few pics.

Right now there is free shipping with no minimum order "7HOLIDAY", unless you're looking for a certain amount of money off-type savings. If so, can't help, but thought I'd throw the free shipping out since I used it last night and again this morning.

My son has the same tag and I can't wait to take him on his first big game hunt! Good luck in the class and its great that you're doing it with him. We see a huge difference in the younger kids when their parents are in the class beside them!

I'm surprised that one of the Prescott or Cottonwood HE teams isn't offering one. I can ask my friend in Cottonwood if he knows of one. I think we're holding on online field day the first week in January, but it gets really interesting really quick when it snows! And don't forget that there is still a 50-question test at the online field day. I'm sure you know this because its on the online course website, but we still get kids/parents showing up saying "We didn't know there was a test!" and then they fail the course. And kudos to you for making him complete it himself! We can tell when parents have done the test for their kids and its really annoying. Good luck on his hunt! What unit?

Please tell me I'm not the only one who can't quit laughing while reading this... But yes, I have both Forster and Chicago Cutlery version of these from my dad's meat cutting days and they are absolutely awesome!

I was texting back and forth with a friend that I met through CW last night and it dawned on me how thankful I am for the friends I've made over the years. They always seem to reach out when I need it most, or are there to answer every one of my questions. My wife has met a couple of them and she really likes them, too. Phil (philcramer), Dwane (Matthew Quigley), Tim (Edge), Tommy (Couestracker), Lance (lancetkenyon),and Ron (roninflag), I'm thankful every day for the friendships that have formed, the help you've offered, the support you've given, and the invitations you've extended me. I'm sure I've missed someone and I apologize for that, but thank you nonetheless. To everyone else who has bought raffle tickets, calendars, cards (Governor's turkey tags), and offered both insight and perspective, as well as allowed me to borrow gear, I thank you. I hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving. After Thursday, we will be in north Phoenix for the weekend for a soccer tournament now that our daughter's broken toe has healed!

I wish I had the extra cash right now. One Garand in my safe isn't nearly enough. Good luck with the sale and I hope this bump helps you and your uncle! I @#$$ing hate cancer!

I think it was you and CatfishKev that recommended them to me. I'll be getting a couple of pairs before our next hunt!

I guarantee you that my seven cuts and chunk of thumb missing on my daughter's elk were all because of that bolded statement in your post. I grew up cutting meat with my dad in the basement with extremely sharp, high-quality butcher's knives and accidents were rare. They happened, but it was rare. I was in a hurry to get that elk out before it got hot, knowing it was just me and my daughter a mile from the truck. I got sloppy from trying to rush to the pack out!
-
Congrats on a great first elk!

After taking that huge chunk out of my thumb, I will be getting a couple of pairs of cut-resistant gloves, thanks to CatfishKev's advice. If for no other reason than to irritate northAZarcher and have yet another excuse to give him grief! Once again, OP, I'm glad you are ok, but sorry you'll be surrendering your elk tag.

Having grown up helping my dad process deer after school in Iowa, well before the replaceable blade craze, we kept all the high-quality knives sharp and there were plenty of cuts, but nothing like what I've seen with these "new" replaceable blades. I really think its their inherent sharpness. I own one and took a huge chunk out of my thumb field dressing my daughter's elk, after cutting myself 7 times prior. Looking back, I was in a hurry and got sloppy. You definitely have to be paying more attention when using those things. I'll keep on using mine, but I'll definitely slow down. Great buck and glad it was not any worse for you! Get well soon!

I can't like this thread enough! I'm proud of how this group is taking off! -
I'm telling ya, Bill. You should just donate that hybrid/intergade/genetic mutant tag away and come help me and Syd on our Goulds hunt! I'll have Syd call you so its harder for you to say no! I know what you'd tell me (I would say that, too!)!! Yep, both my wife and I got drawn for the 2nd hunt in 35A, which means our daughter and I will be chasing Goulds this spring! I'm not giving up my Rio tag but may hunt first two days with you then take a quick drive up to 13B and fill my tag. I'm thinking we can double up Friday morning. All I can say is EPIC! And then point out that my wife said something to me about filling our tags quickly and me booking up to hunt with you! GREAT MINDS, BABY!! GREAT MINDS!! That's a lot of driving for a turkey hunt. I don't have any friends I like that much. I don't really like Bill. I just like hunting turkeys that much! Just kidding, Bill!

You know what sucks........realizing that you totally spaced deadline for spring turkey...........that sucks!!!! Gladly take one of those tags off your hands if two is too many I think I'll manage, but thanks for the offer! That's one problem I won't mind! But, if you get a leftover 12 tag, I'll gladly point you in some directions!

I finally got my Goulds tag, Steve! And, if its any kind of consolation, I've got the annual deck of cards for the Governor's Tag Raffle, or I'll have them shortly, at least! I really want to see you win that!
-
At least now I know it was me and my wife that got the Goulds tags! I have tag #2 and she has tag #5. Between now and when she signs her tag over to our daughter, my prayer and hope is that we have the same hunt!! Two different units at the same time is going to suck. Doable, but still in the suck category!
