    Barnes 270 WSSM Ammo: SOLD

A friend of mine accidentally grabbed two boxes of 270WSM ammo for his wife's elk hunt instead of the 270Win he needed. He can't return them, so he asked me to help him unload them at a fair enough price. His words: "I screwed up, so I might as well make someone a great deal." Two unopened boxes of Barnes VOR-TX 270 WSM 140gr TSX BT for sale. He paid $43/box and asked me to sell them both for $50. His loss is your gain! Up in Flagstaff. Prefer not to ship, but can make it work. My wife and daughter will be near McDowell Mt Park this weekend (19-21) for a mountain bike race and we'll all be near the White Tanks in two weeks (Nov 2-4) for her last mountain bike race of the season. Can meet face to face on either of those trips, if I can talk my wife into helping this weekend.

    Ladder treestand on a saguaro??

I was looking info up for work and remembered these links to the AZ Native Plant Law information, which reminded me of this thread: General info: https://agriculture.az.gov/plantsproduce/native-plants Actual protected categories (starts on page 44 of the document). Saguaros have the top-level of protection: https://agriculture.az.gov/sites/default/files/Native Plant Rules - AZ Dept of Ag.pdf

    Chinook Salmon

I caught one 35-40lb chinook in Alaska in 2003. That was fun. Can't imagine your way. Congrats! Technically, I didn't catch it since it broke the line right at the boat...

    Hunter's First

What a great read and story! I've been following Hunter's trials off and on and he (both of you) earned every bit of that deer. Congrats. And, I would be remiss to not say thank you for "He helped get it gutted back at camp (since we were using lead ammo)". As both a hunter and a biologist who works with condors, I can't thank you enough for taking the time and contributing to the recovery of these beautiful birds. The lesson you taught Hunter is amazing!

    My Little Princess's First Kill

When that time comes, I and my highly trained GSDs will be there with you to make sure all is handled accordingly so that future guy knows what's at stake!

    My Little Princess's First Kill

Congrats to your daughter and I saw what Draysen did on IG, too. Way cool! And, while we're at it, lets all take a moment and give thanks that your daughter looks like her mom! 😁

10-22 Owners with scopes Step Inside

Why am I not surprised that Lance's 10/22s are set up to shoot 1000 yards? 😄 I have 3-9x40s on my kids' .22s and I have a Redfield 2-7x32 on my Rem 597. No complaints for any of them and my kids love squirrel hunting with their rigs.

    Slik tripod

Almost forgot: when I strapped the tripod to my pack for the initial hike in, I never noticed any weirdness with the extension being longer than the legs.

    Slik tripod

The extension sticking below the legs is definitely an inconvenience, but after a long weekend of glassing for my kids' deer hunts and being able to stand upright and glass when necessary was worth it. I"m willing to bet that, once you get rolling with it, you'll never notice. I ended up walking with my binos attached and just extending the neck up enough for me to hold the neck. It was perfectly balanced that way while walking from spot to spot.

Don't make me start charging you to use all my gear! Besides, we both know you don't want your butt chewed any more than I want mine chewed!

Let me talk to my wife. No promises, but we're here in Flag, too. Payment options, since we're local?

Cabela’s changing CC to MasterCard from visa

Definitely this! I used a totally different card to apply for the first time in several years. I just read through more of the paperwork last night, after getting another big envelope in the mail. The thing that bothers me the most is that the new card is cancelling any Silver or Black status you have and making you start from scratch to start earning the various level-associated rewards. We've held Black status for a few years and now I have to start over. Its enough to piss off the Pope, as my dad used to say! In the end, I'll probably keep the MC and keep earning points. I've gotten quite a bit of free stuff out of the deal, including three firearms now!

    Slik tripod

I just bought an extension for my Slik 330! I was in the same boat with my tripod. I'm 5'11" and my 330 was about 4 inches too short to use standing. I was in Bull Basin Archery in Flagstaff the other day, expressing my woes at having to tell my wife I have buy a $300 tripod to be tall enough for me, when they told me about the extensions. It screws on the bottom and gives me more than enough height now. $14 investment saved me $300!

    Ladder treestand on a saguaro??

Saguaros are protected under the AZ Native Plant Law and, I believe, have the highest level of protection under that law. I'd be curious to see how putting a ladder stand on one shakes out with those protections. My guess is that it would be illegal. That doesn't mean its easily enforced when the AZ Dept of Ag, which oversees the Native Plant Law, has had its budget and personnel cut as much as any other public agency, if not more. As wildwoody, said, its definitely protected as the State Cactus.

    Found this little Corn Snake

Adult AZ blacks will go from light brown to dark brown/black (like you describe) depending on the temperature. The warmer they are, the darker the color.

2018 youth deer camp in 34A

Turns out a good friend of mine is going to be there and he'll be taking me and both kids out. Would still be nice to run into another CW family there, tough!

    Found this little Corn Snake

PRDATR and Coffeeman, you both have Arizona black rattlesnakes (Crotalus cerberus). The one in PRDATR's photo is a neonate that doesn't appear to have shed yet. That's typically when they get more than a button for a rattle. Twin spotted (C. priceii) are only found in SE Arizona, with the Pinaleno Mts being their northernmost range. When cerbs are young, they are very grey or light brown/tan. As soon as I saw your first pic, PRDATR, I knew what it was. Wicked cool find!
