Thanks, Lance. 59-5/8" was his buck. A run of the mill Coues, but a great first buck for an 11-year old! I've spent a few years "arguing" with a couple of my buddies back home that they need to learn to respect our whitetail down here and this is part of my attempt to help them learn! My favorite is "You don't have regular whitetail down here, do you?". Then I get on my soapbox of genetics and taxonomy and how much harder Coues are to hunt than the midwest whitetails I grew up with. I think you're assessment is pretty close and about what I was thinking! I've always told them that a 120" Coues is akin to breaking that 200" mark in Iowa.

Except that I'm not LE. I know of three other people who made mistakes and reported themselves and all three had the same outcome. None of them were Federal or State agents. Same treatment. I made a mistake and I owned it. Simple as that.

Thank you! I was raised by a combat vet with severe PTSD. I have very thick skin. Besides, wolves have to eat, too. Somebody has to feed them! Thanks! I've worked with our Federal LEOs and AGFD WMs enough to know that the outcome would have been the same regardless of who I am. I've been interviewed when a hunter camped next to me did the same thing and told me his story. I've also been there when turkey hunters shot hens by mistake or shot at one bird, but hit three. All self-reports. The outcome was exactly the same. I was honestly expecting the worst because I've had multiple Federal LEOs and AGFD WMs tell me I'm supposed to be held to a higher standard because of my job and status as a Hunter Ed instructor. I told the WM if he needed to cite me or cuff me because of my status, I completely understood. He laughed at me. In the middle of talking to the WM, I walked to the side of the road and puked. He looked at me strange and I explained to him that my nerves finally caught up to me. After we got the 1st deer tagged, field dressed, and back to the truck, the three of us sat back and talked about the whole ordeal. We all concluded that we can hold our heads high, be proud of ourselves, and have nothing but fond memories because we did it right. It really helped that our morning Devotional was about overcoming adversity through integrity!

There will be no GoFundMe page for any of my endeavors. I appreciate the support, but, no, I will not accept or set up a GoFundMe to help with my mistakes. I own those outright. I do, however, prefer how the WM worded it. After discussing the illegal deer, he corrected himself to say the "deer that exceeded your bag limit" and his point was to avoid pouring salt in an open wound and make me feel worse than I did at that point. I told him I appreciated his choice of words. Although it was an illegally taken deer, there was definitely no ill intent.

Yes, I can buy it back in the seized-asset auction. I have to bid on it and figure out how much I'm willing to pay if others are interested.

I debated on whether or not to share this. I had visions of a couple of folks really laying into me. I appreciate your support! One of these days, we'll meet up!

I barely know your wife and only know you slightly better; however, the best thing she can get you is a shock collar with adjustable settings on the FOB she keeps!

Since my son is too young for a portal account, I called in to get his results and they aren't posted. I know he was drawn, but they hadn't updated the phone system as of 4:30pm yesterday. Edit: just called and the spring results are on the phone. My bad.
-
Correct. Sorry if I misunderstood, thinking you were trying to get your point with an HE certificate from another state.
-
No, your HE from another state doesn't get you an HE bonus point in Arizona. I see you are in Flagstaff. There is a course coming up in November that you can register for online and get your point. Feel free to PM me. I'm helping the lead instructor organize this class.

Looks like my daughter and I have the archery pig tags and my son has his third youth pig tag!

I just got off the phone with my credit card (0807) and no charges as of yet. Going to call back by 0900.

Thank you to all of you who helped my son raise the funds for his black belt journey last fall, when he offered to tie flies for a donation towards the $550 he had to raise himself! I figured I owe you all an update on this one. This past Saturday (June 15), we had our belt promotion. I earned my yellow w/green stripe belt, but, more importantly, Jacob earned his red w/black stripe belt. Over the next four months, things are going to get harder and even more is expected of him in our studio, but he will be testing for his black belt October 18-19. Its a 24-hour test with intermittent 5-minute breaks. He will be the second youngest in this cohort at 11 years old (three total 11-yos) and he will be the only guy among the six first degree black belt candidates. There will be two other guys testing for their second degree black, which is great for him to have that kind of leadership, too, since I can't be there for him; he'll have two other father figures, in addition to three "moms' to keep each other moving. Jacob could not do what he's done in the past seven months without the support and encouragement from the CW community. It truly does take a village to raise a child and I'm proud that many of you are part of our village. If you're in Flagstaff on October 19, you're welcome to come to the studio. It will be open to the public at 8am, and the rest of the promotion (for me and my green, too) will start at 9am. PM me for studio information. Please keep him in your thoughts over the next four months and, especially, in October. Yes, I'm an extremely proud dad. On behalf of Jacob and my family, THANK YOU!!! Pics from Saturday. No pics of me because nobody wants to see an old fat man in a TKD Dobok. Jacob had to do what is called a "speed break", where you break a board that is barely held. Younger candidates have someone hold it, while adults have to hold their own. You have to generate enough speed to go with the power to break it that way. It took him several attempts, and he got extremely frustrated, but the room erupted (I was the loudest) when he got it. I know the OP personally. I can't speak to their condition, but they are definitely not stolen. I've put both of his kids through Hunter Ed and he's a dedicated dad. Rich has integrity and is a great guy. Mike, he's in Flagstaff.

BOOM!! He did it!!! After being awake for almost 30 hours and training for 23 hours straight, Jacob earned his black belt in Taekwondo Saturday! And, yes, he earned every bit of it. There aren't enough words to express my pride and joy in our son. This was his journey and his alone. To say he brought it and rocked it is an understatement! As Jacob's black belt was being passed down the line of Black Belts, I started crying. The second to last Black Belt told Jacob, who was also crying, to run and give me a hug after he was presented his belt. I will proudly own every single tear and sob. We heard the whole story of his 23-hour promotion yesterday and it is impressive. Sorry, but it stays with us. The part that had me laughing, though, was him following up on an injury that I kind of remember him telling me about Saturday morning. Somewhere around 3 or 4 am, Jacob dislocated his right pinky toe in a training exercise. Fortunately, one of his cohort is a nurse, so she popped it back in place (relocated, according to Jacob). All I could hear was "You shot my pinky toe!" (name that movie), and I couldn't quit laughing. Our son is a total badass in that he finished his black belt promotion, including sparring matches, with a bruised, swollen, relocated pinky toe. We got home around 3pm Saturday. He had two slices of leftover pizza, his first real food since lunch on Friday, and was found slumped over his phone, dead asleep around 4:15 Saturday afternoon with all of his clothes on, including his shoes. We covered him and, around 10pm carried him to bed. He woke up Sunday morning around 8:30. He took off yesterday afternoon with some friends to go to a pumpkin patch. I wasn't the least bit surprised in how he carved his pumpkin when he brought it home. That's the Um-Yang (Korean for Yin-Yang), a kid throwing a side kick, and the blocks were supposed to be the Kwe, the principles of movement and harmony. His journey to earn his black belt is over, but his journey as a black belt has just begun. I was busy earning my green belt, so I didn't have time for pictures. We're still waiting for our studio to post the official action photos, which I'll share when it happens, but these are pictures from a dear friend who was there to support us. Thank you all for the support and encouragement over the last year. We all greatly appreciate it.

I'm probably going to switch out my Zeiss 4.5-14x50 Conquest with turrets after my late Nov deer hunt. If you're interested and can wait, we can talk in early December.

We need to get this raffle sold out, so I'm moving it here for more exposure. Our NAZ NWTF Chapter in Flagstaff is raffling a Stevens 320 12g pump that was donated to our chapter by some amazing folks. See the link below to our online store for details! Tickets are $10 each and we're only selling 100 of them. Of course, you have to be able to pass a background check for this. Winner can pick it up at the Sportsman's Warehouse in Flagstaff or work with them to have it transferred to an FFL of their choice, for a shipping fee. https://www.naznwtf.org/product-page/stevens-320-field-turkey-gun-in-mossy-oak-breakup
