Killed this Javelina last Sunday. After a two hour stalk I managed to get 11 yards from him while he was sleeping! I shot him at 11 yards at exactly 11 am. I had a great time with friends and I especially enjoyed hanging out with my brother. Jake

Had a blast hunting this weekend with my good friends Waldo Gutierrez and Michael Sedgeman in Unit 31. Opening morning started out at 4AM with Waldo yelling, you guys going so sleep all day or what?! So we crawled out of the tent to nothing but cold rain. We knew the weather was suppose to bring rain but we were hoping it didn't start till later in the afternoon. After getting our gear together and listening to Waldo complain that his coffee wasn't strong enough we were ready to get in the trucks and head to the mountain. Michael and Waldo have been scouting the area since September and seen some really nice bucks. They decided to go after two bucks that they named Bucknasty and 2nd Chance. We finally parked the truck and started getting ready for a long hike up the the mountain in the rain. As we are gathering our things all of a sudden Waldo accidently nocks Michaels rifle off the tail gate! Splat! Right in the mud! Everyone had the Oh S*@T! look on their face! Michael was not happy, he just picked the gun up and started walking up the mountain. The whole way to the top of the mountain all I heard was Waldo saying how bad he felt for knocking the gun into the mud and I hope Michael don't miss or we'll never hear the end of it. We finally get to the top of the mountain a little after 6AM. The sun wasn't up yet and it was still raining so Waldo, Michael and I just hunckered down and tried to stay warm. As we were sitting there trying to rest a little we hear Dan say the three words that everyone loves to hear "I Got Deer!" Dan is another one of our friends that came along for the adventure. I can't believe Dan was glassing already, the sun wasn't even up! So we all scrambled to get binos on the tripods and start looking. Dan says looks like a good buck, and then he says there's another one below him and he's a Monster! Dan may as well just started blowing a air horn cause he said it really loud! Before we knew it those deer were on to us and got the heck out of there! Michael and Waldo said they know right where those deer are going and they went to cut them off. Dan and I just stayed there still glassing the hill sides looking for deer. After awhile we started to wonder where the guys went. Then we heard the Ka-Boom! coming from two ridges over. We figured one of them must of got a deer. We didn't hear anymore shots so we started glassing in that direction looking for spooked deer. Then we hear the Crack of a rifle again. As I keep glassing a long way out there I see a buck making his way up the mountain. As I watch this deer all of a sudden he kinda buckles and I think to myself that was weird then the sound of the rifle hits me. The buck goes on a dead sprint down the canyon and starts doing the half drunk half running kind of thing. Then I lost him. Michael calls me on the phone and says (in a very depressed voice) well Waldo shot one and I missed. I said no I don't think you missed I was watching that buck and it looked like he was hit. I told him I would go look for blood if I was you. So after a long walk I finally make over to where the guys are and Michael says he found blood! After a short blood trail we found his buck piled up under an old dead tree right where I lost him in the binos! Man was he excited! He said it's Bucknasty! The same buck he has been watching for the last couple months. We dragged the buck up the hill to where Waldo was and he had shot the buck they named 2nd Chance. Michaels buck taped out around 116. Enjoy the Pics and thanks for reading. Jake

Cool pic! -
Just because they aren't smiling doesn't mean they aren't happy. Trust me these guys were extremely excited about the bucks they killed! It's not a Morenci thing! Some people just don't smile i guess. Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

Our First Coues Bucks

Awesome Job! Gotta love the lever action. Congrats to you and your son. -
Well it was a hard hunt but we managed to get this buck. We first glassed him up on Friday evening with only about ten minutes of daylight left on the very top of the mountain. Since we did not have alot of time we had to come back the next morning. We glassed the mountain all morning and never seen the buck. We decided to pack up camp and go hunt some other spots. After hunting for a couple of days and passing up small bucks we decided to go back to the mountain where the big buck was. It was a cloudy day so we were hoping that the buck would get up a little earlier. After glassing for about five minutes I seen some tiny movement in the exact spot where the buck was seen a few days earlier. Not sure what it was I set up the 15x's. As soon as I looked through the binoculars I knew it was a good buck! With 30 minutes of light left my Brother and I charged up the mountain as fast and as quiet as we could. The buck was about 900 yards and we had to get closer. Losing sight of the buck we made it within 400 yards of where I last saw him. We sat there looking hoping he was still there but I could not pick him up in the binos. Our hearts began to sink, maybe he moved, maybe we spooked him. We decided to just slowly sneak up 50 yards and see if he moved behind the trees. All of a sudden there he was still feeding and he doesn't even know we are there. My brother set up and made a great uphill shot. Walking the rest of the way to the buck was some of the hardest hiking I had ever done. Well enjoy the pics. Jake
