34B Whitetail - 11 Year old daughter Oct Rifle
PSEHunter posted a topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Hi all. Need some help please. I have hunted 34B (Westside) for several years and have taken several nice bucks during that time. After spending the last week in the unit I am very concerned about her Oct whitetail hunt. I have seen a total of 4 does. That's it. I would normally see 15-20 deer a day and on average 5-7 bucks. Not sure what has happened but I am looking for some help. Does anyone know what might have happened? I have not seen lion tracks and spend a lot of time during the summer culling the coyote population. Does anyone have any other places that might work? I have spent time recently in the mattie canyon, Las Cienegas NCA area, North Canyon, Wood canyon and further north in the east fork Davidson canyon areas. Would like to stay in the west side of the Whetsones for ease of access and lower hunter populations. Thank you in advance. Phil. -
Hi all, This is the first year my Daughter can hunt and she pulled a Nov unit 33 jr deer tag. I have a couple of questions. (I know the area well so I do not need advice on where to go). #1. Can I carry the rifle for my daughter while hunting? #2. Will be using a .243. I am thinking an 85gr bullet but have access to 100 gr if needed. Thoughts? #3. I told her I would clean the first one for her so she can learn but would love to have her involved. What have you all done with your kids? Thank you all in advance and if you pulled a tag as well, GOOD LUCK to you! - Phil

Great responses guys so thank you. I have my own license so that is a good idea just in case I get questioned. She will be carrying all of her own equipment (including tag) but I want to be able to help with the weight of the gun for those long hikes up a steep hill. This is going to be awesome. She already has her mount picked out. Semi sneek with a right turn.

VERY HAPPY with this deer. Been hunting this unit for the past 3 years now and finally connected with one of the 4x4's I have been chasing. Special thanks to my best friend Brian for spotting for me during my shot. Brian also connected on his first Muley (a nice 2x1). (I'll let him post pictures of his) 313 yards, 30.06, 150gr Winchester Powermax.

Thanks everyone. Was 45 minutes into the hunt and we had just walked through the area. He must have come in behind us or was pretty sneaky in holding still. Lots of hunters around too...more than I have usually seen.

PM sent.

I'll be up in Unit 27 starting next Wednesday. I have visions of Bulls runing through my head all day long. Ijust hope it is not a zoo with hunters bringing 20 people to help call and find elk.

I would think that since it shows he would have a 100% success rate that the individual was accumulating points by applying for points only. Maybe he is saving up for a guided hunt and needs 19 or so years to do it? Who knows...would suck to be that guy or it might be good as he can get any hunt he wants.

I would check out the website "key to the kaibab" They have a ton of good info on there.

Hey Snakekiller, I drew a Unit 27 bull tag as well. I however am 30. This is my second hunt up there in the last 10 years and I have seen some toads up there. From your pic on the other forum I see you have seen some good ones as well. Good luck and shoot straight. What kind of equipment are you using? Bow model, draw weight, arrows, broadheads, etc.....always interested in others tools of the trade. I'm shooting a Diamond Liberty (yes I know my name says PSEHunter), 70#, Axis FMJ's with 115gr Muzzy's. P.S. Sorry for the hi-jack Huntn Coues.

I dont see it Whas it the home page or big game draw page??? Is this what you saw Fall 2008 Draw Information The deadline for the submission of hunt permit-tag applications for fall 2008 hunts for deer, turkey, javelina, bighorn sheep and buffalo was June 10, 2008. Draw results for the 2008 fall draw are not yet available. Check back to this web site for updated information. Nope....click on the drawing results page to enter your sportsman ID and birthdate. In the upper left hand corner it is listed there. -

Pulled up the GFD webpage today and the header of the page now says 2008 fall draw. Results are not posted yet but I am guessing sooner rather than later. Would be nice if it was today. Does anyone remember what time they posted the Elk results. I think it was midday. -
Website was also update today to say: Online sale of licenses, submission of online hunt draw applications, review of draw results online, and review of bonus points online for the Arizona Game and Fish Department are not available at this time. For information about submitting a hunt draw application, reviewing draw results and bonus points, please visit the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s web site at www.azgfd.gov/draw. To purchase a license, visit the Department’s web site for a listing of license dealer locations. For additional information, please contact the Arizona Game and Fish Department at 602-942-3000. My guess is late next week.

Bonus Point question for applying as a party
PSEHunter posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Looking for some help here. My Father has 6 Bonus points and I have 2 for elk. If we apply on the same Application how many of the bonus points are considered within the draw system? Is it the lowest of the party? or is it a combination of the two? Thanks -
What would you guys do in this situation? I was up in 34A over the weekend and started out of my truck. I was about 30 yards from my car when another Ford came flying in, almost hit me and parked next to my car. They then bailed out there car and started running up the hill past me. They waved at me, laughed and then kept going up the hill. I have never been so pissed off in my life. There was only one canyon that could have been hunted the way I was going and they ran right past me. Please people, when you are hunting, show some etiquette and don't encroach on others when you clearly see them.

Been in 34A all of Friday and Satuday. Saw 37 deer.....every single one of them was a doe. Here's hoping next weekend goes better.

I'm very interested to know if this buck came from Unit 33. I saw one very similar to the one your mom shot several times during last January's hunt.

What would you do? (hunting etiquette)

I kept on up the canyon about a mile past these yahoo's. Saw lots of deer that they pushed to me but all were does. The canyon was very narrow so you really could shoot from one side to the other. I went up one side after they passed me on the other. -
Any chance his nose glows red?

Don't worry about me putting in for December. I use that time to hunt with a bow. -
