Ace High Benny replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Store
I'd be happy to get maps of a few units and support the cause. However, from what I see, those I want are not YET published. ACE -
Border Patrol Agent killed near Rio Rico (36B)
Ace High Benny replied to GingerRam's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Just read it! It is probably more upsetting to those, like me, who hunt 36B and get aquainted with several BPA's... My condoleances to his family. Ace -
+1 Veni, vidi, vici..but just the fun and the relaxation under the stars... No bucks..lots of does on 36 B Ace

Subsequent to my post "An evening in 36B" I wanted to know if the BP is currently working on opening a 2-way radio emergency channel for civilian use? Does anybody know anything? This said, I was not able to communicate with them by phone (no service) or by 2-way radio (no dedicated channel) during that evening. I just called the BP Nogales Station; they confirmed the above: "No 2-way channels for civilian use". In my opinion, this is an issue that, perhaps, AZGF has to tackle and establish a co-operation with the BP so that it becomes a statewide decision that when a hunter / fisherman-woman has an emergency he/she should be able to contact BP on a 2-way radio, say at 9.11 Ace

Location: 36B / Campsite off Ruby Rd. Overnight scouting trip Nov 17th to 18th. Attendants: Just me, solo! Arrival: 1447 Hours. Nov. 17th. Campsite organization Evening scouting: 1530 - 1810 H Return to campsite: 1836 H Dinner: 1940 H Activity: 2020 H. A strange looking dude walking on Ruby Rd. going east. He looked like he was going to fall on the ground any minute. I think I heard him say something like "money, money". I didn't understand whether he was giving away money or wanted some. In any event, he did not get off the road and approach my "territory". I was, coincidentally, standing behind the tent at that time and was watching his moves and his hands. You can guess where my hand was (I am a lefty). Company: 2056 H. Saw first BP truck. Informed him of the above and invited the officer for leftovers. He declined as he had already eaten. Told me that he had "one in the cage" and that he was going to look for the one I told him about. Trouble: 2146 H. My car died! I forgot that I had the portable fridge running in the back and that drained my battery. Waited patiently and calmly. Solution: 2212 H saw BP going west. Stopped to help me. Called in his colleagues for jumper cables. They came in 10 minutes. Car was running again. Conversation: 2225 H. BP asked me if I was alone. I said "yes". He then continued and said that I must have "a lot of guts and courage" to stay overnight alone. BTW, they NEVER found that strange dude that night...and I did wake up, alive, at 0552 H on the morning of Nov. 18th. I think it was more for "the others" to have the guts and courage to be in MY territory Happy hunting! Ace

Emergency communication with the BP
Ace High Benny replied to Ace High Benny's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
[Good luck with breaking the encription code to chat with The Department of Homeland Security. Good point! Unless BP / DHS allow it looks like it will not happen! Ace -
He was wearing a plaid shirt, jeans and sneakers and was walking as he was drunk or ill or something... Ace
-
...and thus he'll get his "money".. Haha..here we go:) Ace

Just does! However, I pinpointed a few spots where I'll be glassing during the hunt. Ace

Well, thank you all pards! Tomorrow I'm getting a lion tag. Ace
-
Thank you all for the replies. I'll look for lions in 36B while I am looking for the whitetail! Cheers, Ace

So, Jeremy, since you own a meat processing business, will you cut a lion? would you eat it or not? Ace

southern Az units safety questions?
Ace High Benny replied to 300 ultra mag's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Now pard, forgive me for noticing but you are making too many spelling mistakes and asking "location sensitive" strategic questions...I am starting to think that you are trying to find out where there are not going to be too many hunters so that you can guide the bandidos through those areas. Is that it now:)? Seriously, don't make a big deal out of it. Start thinking that YOU are within the boundaries of the sovereign country called the USA and that THEY don't belong here. If, G-d forbids, anything happens you be the judge as to how you want to handle it. Further, I don't remember hearing about ANY clashes between the bandidos and the outdoorsmen in any unit. Am I wrong? So, relax already! Ace PS: If you need assistance radio me at 16.47. I'll be there 11 /17-18 and for the hunt 11/30-12/2 -
southern Az units safety questions?
Ace High Benny replied to 300 ultra mag's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I have been scouting and camping about 2 to 3 miles from the border in 36B and, truly, I have not seen any disturbing activity but deer and beautiful skies at night! BP has beefed up their operation. Be careful, be vigilant but, I'd say, don't be scared! a) Camping in numbers helps. Carrying a side firearm is a must. c) In case you are pitching a tent just lock your sleeping bag / pad in your car when you are not there. d) If your campsite is close to the main road (like Summit Mtwy. or Ruby Road) it is less likely that any unwanted characters will get into your camp as these roads are patrolled by the BP 24/7. Ace -
It is illegal for a US citizen to support illegal activity; that includes leaving water for the "support" of illegal entry. A human life is important and, I feel bad and saying this but, a shot in any caliber aimed at the water jugs should be the most appropriate deterrant! Ace

I have been scouting 36B for my late November hunt and I cannot say I witnessed any illegal activity. I saw, however, 6 dudes handcuffed and sitting on the floor, in front of 2 BP cars about 3 miles east of Pena Blanca off Ruby Road about 1830 hours one evening in October. I hunt alone, I camp alone and G-d protect whoever messes with me in my own ground! Best, Ace

Looking for a meat packer / butcher in Tucson area
Ace High Benny posted a topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Due to the time of my hunt and my travels immediately thereafter I will not be able to prepare the venison, should I harvest a deer this year. Can anybody suggest a reliable butcher, meat packer in the Tucson / Oro Valley area where I can take the carcass for processing? As my wife and I are satisfied just with 1/2 the deer I am willing to leave the other half towards payment for the job, should they agree. Any suggestions? Ben -
Thinking about 36A Leftover
Ace High Benny replied to Jcubed's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
So that you know, pard, not 36A but I'll be hunting 36B. Unless I have last minute company I'll be hunting alone late Nov. and I even picked a lone campsite just in case I have no company. The point is I am not affraid of anything even in 36B which is closer to the border. Relax and enjoy your hunt and remember the "castle law" when you are in your R/V or tent! One more thing, I thing 36B is nicer than 36A:) Ace -
The more the better on 36B
Ace High Benny replied to Ace High Benny's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Thanks for the invite. Where will you be staying? I may join you with an old cowboy friend of mine. He was a mounted shooting champ once:) Ace -
Fellow hunters, I am hoping to get a 36B tag (and I most likely will!). Since there is so much discussion about the unit's current "demographics" (I am not talking about deer) is it possible to, perhaps, start forming "solidarity groups" so that we could camp / stay close? I, for example, requested the late November 1139 hunt and am hoping to be there 11/29-12/2. At least 2 days if not the whole time... I'll welcome (quiet) company for those days or would hope that I'd be invited to camp around others. So, anybody on 36B during the last days of this hunt? Much obliged, ACB
-
Let's be reasonable and friendly, please! "I've never hunted this unit, can you give me some idea" does not necessarily mean that this dude wants to know all the scouting secrets...the answers can be generalized and listed, for example, like: -Yes there is deer...or not much of it. -It is hard terrain, steep hills, colder climate. -Bad visibility.. -Too much private land... -Watch for human danger (as in 36B)... -Etc...etc...Anything else you can think of... ..and yes, after all the information, if he needs to find deer he should work for it:) Best, Ace

Ace High Benny replied to Ace High Benny's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
WGP it is! I am sure the owner will be thrilled with the referrals. Now that they are opening the Twin Peaks interchange on I-10 he is actually not far at all. I'll give him a call! Much obliged, Ace
