Refer to this post; can it be it? "My 10 year old lost his Savage 243 rifle. We parked truck on Thurs 10-20-11 between 8:00 A.M. and 10:30 A.M.just off Forest Service Road 647. Its off hwy 188 next to Roosevelt. Its the U shaped road with a deer fence enclosure. The road is across from Cholla Bay and Bachelor Cove at Lake Roosevelt. It was leaned up against the truck when I drove off and left it. I drove all the way around then rushed back to where I was parked but gun was gone. I really think a hunter had to come across it because few people would be going up this road. I just made a report with Sheriff and hope if anyone found it they would look on this forum. This was our 1st white tail hunt and it pretty much got ruined before we even got started. If anyone has information I will pay $200.00 to get the gun back. I appreciate any help and i'm not suggesting it was stolen. I just hope we can get it back. He didn't even get to shoot it once... Thanks, Casey FFD 928-853-6775. or e-mail wrodeotime@aol.com" Ben

Well, here comes September! Have you already decided where to camp for the late November hunt in 36B? Will you be interested in forming larger groups? Cheers, AHB

Hotels near Arivaca or 36B
Ace High Benny replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Pat, we have the same hunt. My son is joining me. I haven't decided where to camp but will have a better idea about 2 weeks before the hunt. The general area will be south / south east off Arivaca. We run an absolute "dry camp" when hunting. Good company and quiet evenings are welcome. AHB -

Ace High Benny replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Adam, note that most hotels are quite remote from the main hunting areas and going back and forth will not be very convenient, trust me! I camp and hunt by myself in that unit. I am the one with "guts and courage" as the BP puts it. However, this year, my son is joining me. Looks like we have the same hunt. We set camp on Monday after Thanksgiving or, maybe, Sunday. You're welcome to join us. Let me know, AHB -
CAMPING ARRANGEMENTS IN 36B
Ace High Benny replied to Ace High Benny's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
My apologies, forgot to mention; I, absolutely, do not drink or accept offers to drink while armed and / or while in a hunting camp. After daylight I prepare myself for the next day, cook and relax quietly. Therefore, I'd be interested in groups with similar approach. Best, AHB -
Exotic Woods on Rifle Stocks

Correct, thank you! It is indeed a document issued pursuant to the treaty. Spanish government certified that the Brazilian Rosewood used on my guitar was obtained through legal channels. AHB -
Exotic Woods on Rifle Stocks
Ace High Benny replied to EBB's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I am a classical guitar aficionado and have 3 of those; all by reputable foreign luthiers. One of them is Brazilian Rosewood. It is absolutely correct that the endangered woods may not be used for any type of craft unless they have a certificate called CITES. This is valid for every type of use and not guitars only. Further, it is advised that one carried this CITES when travelling especially if the instrument is made after 2004. I find it, however, absurd that the authorities will take any finished product away from an individual. At the production level, however, it is necessary for the manufacturer to provide the buyer with the CITES these days and THEY should be raided if they don't. AHB -
Howdy, I've been encouraged to get a Mountain Lion tag and I've decided that I will! Please excuse my ignorance but what does one do with a mountain lion? Eat the meat? how is it cooked? What is edible? Preserve the hide and just look at it? OK, I can use a taxidermist for that. Any suggestions? Much obliged, Ace

They all are the same as the FCC only allows so much transmission power for 2-way radios. The GPRS channels have a little more power and FCC requires a license to use them. However, since the license is to use the "repeaters" and only 1 or 2 (expensive) models allow you to do that you'll NOT, with an everyday radio, be connecting to any repeater. So, the license is obsolete. Additionally you may consider: weather channel (it helps), auto channel lock, emergency signal, built in flash light etc... Don't go crazy with the so called 67.895 mile range claim; you won't hear pass 3 miles anywhere in the mountains, if you're lucky! AHB

Just like in the "Old West" ??
Ace High Benny posted a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
This is the article from CNN; I am curious to know who told on the agents! "Two Border Patrol agents in Arizona are accused of forcing suspected drug smugglers to eat marijuana and strip down to their underwear before being told to flee into the desert. A federal grand jury in Tucson indicted Dario Castillo, 23, and Ramon Zuniga, 29, with five counts of civil rights violations. Castillo faces an additional charge of tampering with a witness. The indictment alleges that on November 12 of 2008, the two border agents forced four suspected drug smugglers from Mexico -- who were in the country illegally and carrying marijuana -- to eat the drug and remove their all their clothes except their underwear, the Arizona U.S. Attorney's office said. Instead of arresting them, the agents burned their personal belongings and ordered them to flee into the desert in 40-degree weather, the office said. If convicted, Castillo and Zuniga face a maximum of 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine." AHB -

Try a few packs. The fit will depend a lot on the way you are built. The Eberlestock is expensive but it is very well built and has lots of bells and whistles. I do have one and use it too! AHB

First Come, First Serve Tags Up
Ace High Benny replied to SirRoyal's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Good luck with your 36B hunt SirRoyal! Keep in mind that the hunt area is pretty remote and off slow roads. I see you're from Prescott Valley. You may not know this but you'll not be comfortable staying in Tucson and driving back and forth everyday until you get something or until the end of your hunt. Consider joining a group of other hunters; people are always open to camping in numbers in 36B. Cheers, BA -
First Come, First Serve Tags Up
Ace High Benny replied to SirRoyal's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Well, people have the right to be concerned about themselves and their families. My wife worries about me because I hunt in 36B. However, she also knows that I'll protect myself, no questions asked! If this border was under my control I'd put 100 tanks waiting for the bad guys! AHB -
I thought the "grouping" will start late September but, here we go: 36B, late November! AHB

New to hunting. Any tips?
Ace High Benny replied to srfrost45's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Hmmm...another 36B candidate:) Here it is: -In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful and peaceful units to hunt in. -This said, ALWAYS carry a side weapon as there might be characters particular to 36B who would like to spoil the peace. -Start getting in shape; unit 36B is rough and better hunting is in the canyons. -Come mid September start scouting. Come into the unit from different parts; west through Ruby Rd. off 19., or go east from Arivaca, travel west through Peck Canyon etc..etc..You'll need a 4x4 for better canyons. -I see you're in Chandler; you can take a day trip for scouting or stay overnight, especially during the cool evenings of October, before the hunt. -I, by choice, hunt in 36B and I have the same hunt as yours; thus you may hook up with both for scouting and camping during the hunt. Best of luck, AHB -
I wanted 36B and I got 36B; late November! Best of luck to all with tags! Now, in the last 3 years for instance, has anybody experienced a "License & Tag check" by the AZGFD while in the field? I am curious to know the statistics of such enforcement. Cheers, AHB

Who Drew The Tag of a Lifetime?
Ace High Benny replied to couesobsession's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
In my opinion, any tag that gives us the opportunity to get out there and enjoy hunting is "the tag of a lifetime". Do not look down upon the leftover tags; some still present good opportunities and a hunt is what the individual makes out of it by him/herself, family and friends! Best, AHB -
