Good day, Does anybody know of any northern entry points into unit 36B (i:e FROM ARIVACA RD.) The northern part seems to be occupied by private ranches, thus my question. Information is appreciated. Ben

UNIT 36B NORTHERN ENTRY POINTS
Ace High Benny replied to Ace High Benny's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
KP 40 off I-19 is Aricava Rd. I am looking for points off Arivaca Rd. Thank you! -
Blackhawk Serpa Tactical Holster. Whether you are righty or lefty, does not matter. It is the most adequate holster for when you have a backpack.

Here is an old story of mine from 2010. Location: 36B / Campsite off Ruby Rd. Overnight scouting trip Nov 17th to 18th, 2010 Attendants: Just me, solo! Arrival: 1447 Hours. Nov. 17th. Campsite organization Evening scouting: 1530 - 1810 H Return to campsite: 1836 H Dinner: 1940 H Activity: 2020 H. A strange looking dude walking on Ruby Rd. going east. He looked like he was going to fall on the ground any minute. I think I heard him say something like "money, money". I didn't understand whether he was giving away money or wanted some. In any event, he did not get off the road and approached my "territory". I was, coincidentally, standing behind the tent at that time and was watching his moves and his hands. You can guess where my hand was (I am a lefty). Company: 2056 H. Saw first BP truck. Informed him of the above and invited the officer for leftovers. He declined as he had already eaten. Told me that he had "one in the cage" and that he was going to look for the one I told him about. Trouble: 2146 H. My car died! I forgot that I had the portable fridge running in the back and that drained my battery. Waited patiently and calmly. Solution: 2212 H saw BP going west. Stopped to help me. Called in his colleagues for jumper cables. They came in 10 minutes. Car was running again. Conversation: 2225 H. BP asked me if I was alone. I said "yes". He then continued and said that I must have "a lot of guts and courage" to stay overnight alone. SCARY TWIST: They NEVER found that strange dude that night...and I did wake up, alive, at 0552 H on the morning of Nov. 18th. Happy hunting! Ace PS: I always camp SOLO. I am a licensed HAM operator and have access to repeaters for communication. Keystone repeater is the closest and no issues (most of the time) hitting it. Going back to 36B for late November hunt.

PPU BRASS - WILL LOAD BUT NOT RE-LOAD AFTER FIRING
Ace High Benny replied to Ace High Benny's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I tried 5 different brands, including PPU. I would like to report that FL sizing was needed and the result is satisfactory. Now, I will say that the case expansion on PPU was larger than the rest. Which are: Hornady, R-P, Winchester & FC. I did apply annealing to the neck. Cheers, Ben -
PPU BRASS - WILL LOAD BUT NOT RE-LOAD AFTER FIRING
Ace High Benny posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I thought I shared the following experience. I purchased PPU 30/30 Win brass from Cabela's. 100 count was on sale. Turned out that this brass is good for "loading" only. Believe me, you will not be able to reload it after you fire. Let's be more specific; rifle is Henry H009B, 30/30 Win. Round is Hornady 150 gr. and I used 32.5 gr. of H4895 (The high recommended is 34 gr.). During reloading I noticed the following: Not much change in length however the bullet would not sit and over cramping will cause the cartridge not to chamber. I try to be very precise when it comes to numbers. I checked all the tolerances and turned out to be that the brass was wider overall by 0.0025" - 3". Hence, wider neck that will not hold the bullet and wider body that will not chamber. I would like to hear other opinions but I would not recommend PPU 30/30 brass and these are going into the garbage. Best, Ben -
PPU BRASS - WILL LOAD BUT NOT RE-LOAD AFTER FIRING
Ace High Benny replied to Ace High Benny's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Have you had this problem with other brass? I have not experienced other brands, yet. Are you FL sizing? NO First time using the brass? THE PPU BRAND, YES - ISSUE IS AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN FIRED ONCE First time using the dies? YES - HORNADY. HOW WOULD THIS HAVE AN EFFECT? Same issue with other brand of brass? STILL CHECKING ON IT Possibly have a minimum chamber and loose tolerance die. Brass might be hard, so it is springing back a bit after sizing. Try annealing the neck and top of case. WILL TRY... -

Good day all, I am one of the lucky ones who drew a UNIT 10, Mid-October, Elk hunt. From what I gathered, this is a unit with no significant commercial lodging in or around it (or just far to get to and not worth the time). I am looking for valuable suggestions as to where to set camp, not in a specific area but, THROUGHOUT the whole unit. Hence, all opinions are welcome. I am considering a Big-Bo Pass Will be driving a 4x4 RAM Camping either with a light travel trailer or just a tent With the above preliminary data taken into consideration, where would one find suitable campsites in this unit? Thank you and best of luck with your hunts. Ben
