My sleeping bag sucks/// Which one to get

Find a 100% cotton canvas shell with 9 pounds of hollow fill with the nicest, coolest cotton inside for under$100. Butler bags have the same thing, but can you get one of them for the same price? http://shop.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/rectangle-sleeping-bag-by-guide-gear.aspx?a=259444

    Fabrications

Nice job! Fabricating boxes kind of becomes an obsession doesn't it? In staying true to my word on the "pay it forward" thread, some deserving person gets a custom cam box on me. Looking forward to building it.

    Freedom lost again

IMO, this isn't about bigotry or what defines a marriage. It's about freedom. I won't presume to define marriage or morality for anyone else. That is their business. At the same time, I don't want Government stepping in and telling me how I should define morality or how I can conduct my business.

    Lightweight gear

Not always cheap, but I've found Under Armour products to be very well made. From a layering perspective, the Heat Gear makes a great base layer and compared to Sitka and Kuiu is pretty affordable - especially if you check the sales on their website. I lucked into some poly/cotton blend long sleeve t-shirts a while back and have found layering thin poly, to cotton poly works great when you have to go from cold morning to warm mid-day hunting with little bulk.

    Free Stuff

I've tried selling this stuff with no luck so it's free to whoever wants it. No shipping, of course. If you feel inclined, make a small donation to CWT, or just "pay it forward". Factory rims from an '08 Tacoma. Set of 4. Two army-style cots. Cadet heaters. 4 toe-kick 220V and one in-wall unit - not sure if it's 110 or 220V, but I think it's 220.

Would you or wouldn't you pull the trigger??

Definitely good penetration - oh, wasn't this a broadhead topic?

    Free Stuff

To be fair, some of you guys have called "dibs" on this stuff, but until somebody comes and picks it up it's fair game. Clay, I'll bring the cots by the next time I come through town and we can meet up if they are still available, Mule, if your cousin can pick up locally that's great. Willy, if you want the heaters they are yours. At the same time, I'm giving this stuff away to make room, so it all goes to the first person who shows up and gets it.

    Decoy???

I've seen some decoys draw them in, and others chase them off - I think it all depends on how aggressive the bucks are. Personally, the first time I draw a speed goat tag, I want to do the "be-the-decoy" route, just because it looks like a ton of fun, and I have seen bucks come in really hard to them. There is an older plastic fold-in-half decoy I've seen used, sorry don't remember the name, but it scared the heck out of anything my buddy approached with it - just too dark and shiny. On a lighter note, the same buddy made a cow "outfit" that took two people to operate. It was him and his dad. The idea was that antelope were used to cows, so they made this elaborate, two-person black cow decoy. Now imagine a couple guys with a few too many beers trying to keep in step while the guy in the back is squirting his hydration bladder all over and the guy in front is trying hold his bow and keep from laughing and it looks like one of those Chinese dragon outfits zig-zagging across the prairie. The goats actually got so curious by the debacle the came in to investigate, but they never got a shot off because they were laughing too hard at each other and one-upping the other's jokes. No meat from that adventure, but memories and campfire stories to last a lifetime.

+1 on the Sportsman's Guide -30 canvas bag. Hard to find more bag for the $$. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/rectangle-sleeping-bag-by-guide-gear.aspx?a=259444
  12. On my 3 sons' youth turkey hunt I lost my beloved GPS. I searched everywhere and could not find it, so eventually, I bought a replacement - exact same model. Of course, the day the replacement arrived, my middle son, looking for the TV remote found my original between the couch cushions. So now I have 2 and only need one. The new one is in practically brand new condition. There is a little bit of wear on the rubber on the the bottom, but otherwise it looks like a brand new unit. My older one has a little bit of dust and more wear on the rubber, but has had a screen protector specifically cut for this unit on it since the day I bought it. None of the text on the buttons is rubbed off, and with a Q-tip I could make it look almost identical to the newer one. Included in the sale of either is the original box, manual, start-up guide, USB cable, vehicle cable, belt clip and stud, suction car mount and cradle, and original Mapsource Trip and waypoint manager software. In addition, either one comes with a Sony 16 GB micro SD card pre-loaded with Garmin's 1:24,000 scale topo maps of the Southwest - that's quad-level topo maps of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. I'm asking $250 for the newer one or $220 for the older one. This unit has been discontinued, and IMO, it's the best hand-held GPS available. The price on Amazon.com is $499, and that doesn't include the $99 Garmin Topo U.S. 24K Southwest maps. Refurbs on Ebay are around $300, and come with no maps. Feel free to PM me for more details or more detailed pictures. Thanks for your time.

I'll vote for any man that stands against tyranny. My first choice is Allen West. Whether he runs or not is up in the air.

Whats in your pack and what pack do you use?

Plastic trash bags will ruin meat. You need cotton bags that allow the meat to cool at air temp. JMO.
  17. I'm with you Dustin on this one. I want every single one of our boys back here with their families. F3F, I get what you are saying too. The facts out there are sketchy at best - I don't know if this guy deserted and ran, or was captured doing his duty. I can only imagine what he has been through over 5 years held by some of the most brutal people walking the same ground, breathing the same air as you and I do, but lacking any humanity or compassion, I'm glad he's home, and as I stated before I hope all 5 of the released will find a hellfire missile at their "coming home" party.
  18. Appeasement - very glad our boy is home, but it comes at a pretty high price. I hope there is a drone with each of the 5 released from Gitmo in it's crosshairs - ideally the first time they check in with their "higher ups".

Is this bear huge? Not in an open unit?

Thought I replied on this earlier, but apparently not. I agree that it looks like 2 different bears. That first one looks absolutely huge. And with that color phase - wow.

Whats in your pack and what pack do you use?

Looks to me like you're packing all the right stuff - of course as others have mentioned baby wipes are key. I also like to pack a bunch of disposable rubber gloves. They're great for cleaning game and just overall keeping clean, if you get my drift. An emergency blanket is also nice to have in there - the foil type you can get for around $5 and take up very little room. And don't forget the game bags for when you do kill.

And then there's this: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/05/robert-farago/from-the-annals-of-police-militarization-ga-swat-burn-toddler-with-stun-grenade/ This is the second article I've read lately about a little kid getting hit with a flash-bang when the cops could have simply knocked on the door and watched all exits. This stuff is getting out of control - fast.

    My Grandfather and his coues

+1 on the Enfield. My Grandfather had two - one sporterized the other was shorter for my Grandma. 303 British - great round. Google it for some comparison pix. It came in a lot of configurations and was a very affordable rifle at the time. Gotta laugh on the tarp comment - definitely not the best way to keep the meat cool.
