Got this email from G&F. PINETOP, Ariz. — The Arizona Game and Fish Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the person or persons responsible for the illegal killing of a bull elk on, or close to, Monday, Oct. 19. The bull elk was located in Game Management Unit 27 on Forest Road 37 near mile post 6 on Middle Mountain. The meat was left to waste. There was an antlerless elk hunt taking place at this time. “We need assistance from the public to help find the poacher(s) who left this animal to waste,” said Nancy Huser, law enforcement specialist for the department. “If you heard someone talking about this or you were in the area about this time, it’s possible that you have information that can help solve this case.” Anyone with information about this case can call the department’s Operation Game Thief hotline at (800) 352-0700 or visit www.azgfd.gov/thief and refer to case #15-003431. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $750 in this case. All calls may remain confidential upon request.

sjvcon, that's pretty much what I thought was the most likely scenario too. I absolutely love the youth hunts, but it seems so many want to drive roads with their youth hunters and take a lot of off-hand running shots from the road. I don't know what happened on this particular hunt that lead to the dead bull left to waste, but on my youngest son's first cow elk hunt we heard a lot of shots from the road and it was always multiple shots. Shooting at a running herd leads to wounded animals that sometimes the hunter didn't even know they hit. Good news is, on Josh's hunt we did a lot of stalking, getting in position and he put one shot perfectly on the lead cow in a group of bulls, cows and calves. I hope the mentors on here hunt like you do, and teach the ethics of when not to shoot.

That has to be one of the best looking straight 4x4's I've ever seen.

Hunting on a Clean vs Fouled Bore (continued)
Coach replied to rossislider's topic in Long Range Shooting
No doubt, hunt with it the way it last shot in practice. On a side note, the guy in that video is on heck of a shot. -
Spot on - all the above. The brass gets longer each time it is resized, so trimming is essential.

It's in Mexico by now, I bet. My F250 crew was stolen twice. Once from the Sea World parking lot - ended up in Tiguana when they ran out of gas. The second time was a water park in Ahwatukee. When the cops found it the guy took them for a roller-coaster chase through the desert with no air filter. Totally destroyed the powerstroke - and the body, and the interior. Best luck finding it, but in all honesty, it might be better from an insurance perspective if it isn't found.

What a stellar buck! Great job to Tessa and to you and Mark getting her into position. Great write up.

Yikes, what a rough way to go.

Nice job! Huge congrats to Thomas! Looks like a nice setup he shot her with too! Gotta love youth hunters. My youngest, Josh got his first on Friday morning in unit 1 at first light. Pix will come in a different thread.
