    What bases and rings?

+1 on the DNZ. I really like a one piece mount with integrated rings. A lot less points of failure than two separate bases and two rings connected to them.

    General Forum Question

Those are all checked for me, and I've verified the email address is correct. Also, I don't see anything in my Junk Email box, so it's not being filtered. Strange. But thanks for pointing me to those settings.
  3. Hey guys, as always I appreciate all the responses. To answer AverageJoe, that is one of my concerns. The accutrigger on this is light, I mean really light. I replaced the standard/magnum with a lighter trigger spring. I thought I was getting the tactical that goes down to 1.5 pounds, but there is a target one that goes down to 6 ounces, which feels more like this one at its lightest setting. This thing is touchy to say the least. I like a light trigger but, especially for a gun I let my kids hunt with it needs to be tightened up a bit. It takes you by surprise even when you know it's light. On the plus side, my groups have never been smaller, lol. Looking at some other forums, it appears others have found exactly what you described, but I didn't know if there was any way the trigger could affect the the firing pin, other than of course making it go forward. When I do have misfires, there is either no dent on the primer, or a very slight one off center, so I think you are on to something. Especially since it happens rarely to almost never when I'm shooting off a bench, to consistently for my son - he's younger and was probably putting sideways pressure on the trigger. Benbrown, thanks for the advice on cleaning and the One-shot. A good dry lube is something I'm looking for.
  4. I built a 6.5x284 Norma from a Savage 110 action. On a cold-weather hunt, my son had it misfire several times in a row. I've taken it out in cold weather and every so often I'll get a misfire as well. That said, I switched to CCI primers before this happened so I'm not sure if it's gummy oil from the cold weather or maybe a weak spring. It definitely seems worse in really cold weather. My plan is to strip it down, clean it really well, maybe replace the spring with a heavier after-market one (Midway is perpetually out of them, but it appears you can get them direct from Wolff ), put a little graphite or other non-petroleum lube in there then stick it in the freezer for a couple days and see if it fires. Anyway, my question is, has anyone else had this problem and know of other things that might cause it? Thanks in advance.
  5. Looks awesome. Great job on the Cerakote. I would hate to be on the business end of that thing!

I really want that mark 3, let me know if JLG doesn't take it. Funds are tight right now, but that is one sweet pistol.

    New hunting Truck

Is the truck even worth the $11,000 you're about to dump into it? If the alternative is dumping it in a scrap yard, yes. I don't have the luxury of buying one new for $65K or used for around $40k. We have a trailer to haul around, and that's our family vacation - Moab, Zion, Escalante, Powell - that's how our family reconnects after months of everyone doing their own thing and drifting apart. Hiking slot canyons, rappelling red rocks, hanging on the beach by Lone Rock, paddle boarding, kayaking - not to mention getting the whole family together for javelina or turkey or whatever hunt gets us all together. Having a working truck that pulls our camper to whatever destination to get away from work, school, sports and all the daily stresses that pull us apart so we can spend days or weeks on end reconnecting as a family is priceless.

Wow, thanks Bonecollector. That thing is a true giant - and a deer/elk killing machine.

    1984 GMC Jimmy - Cheap

Just to add, the tires are pretty much new, and I'd consider binos in the same price range.

    1984 GMC Jimmy - Cheap

Selling this for my Dad. It's a 1984 GMC Jimmy. Very clean for it's age. I'll start with the good - that's the shorter list. Inside and out it looks great. It starts, runs and drives. Transmission is in great shape, new radiator, engine has a little over 30K miles. Ok, on to the bad. This was the truck I drove to high school back in the 80's. Afterward, my dad took great care of it but rarely drove it. Then my son drove it for a while and apparently ran it while low on oil. Currently, it runs really rough. I'd like to say it's a tuning issue, but I'd guess from running on low oil, at the very least the rings are toast - maybe worse. I won't mislead - the engine could be shot, I just don't know and at this point I'm not willing to invest in diagnosing it, so let's just assume the worst. The rust - as you can see in the pictures, there's some serious deep rust in that panel. 4x4 - not even sure if it engages anymore. Broken driver's seat - it leans back into low-rida position all by itself. That would have to be fixed if someone were to restore it. So, after that stellar sales pitch, let's talk $$. I don't know if this is a fixer-upper or a parts truck. My gut says it's worth $700 on the low side. I'm open to any cash offer. As for trades, I'd consider a Leica rangefinder. Pretty much set on other gear.

    New hunting Truck

Oh man. The 6.0. I've got a 2005 Excursion that we bought around 65K miles. Great truck, took us on so many family outings pulling a very heavy 32' trailer with big slide outs. Little things started going wrong - FICM, HPOP, turbo underboost causing the check engine light to come on under a load, bad cold starts, sluggish warming up. I could list several $1200 plus trips to the mechanic, and it's now at BulletProof in Mesa looking at another $11K. The list of things that go wrong with this engine are endless. First thing I'd do is take it to BulletProof, ask for Andrew and get a no BS assessment of it. On a 6.0 the EGR cooler will fail. It isn't an "if" it's when. And the oil cooler is basically a box with radiator wings that cools the oil while also cooling coolant. It clogs and fails, and coolant mixes with oil. The injectors are another trouble spot. If they aren't torqued to spec, even over spec, you get a loose injector that allows unspent fuel to pass through it into the cylinder causing bent valves or even a burned piston. Bottom line, if it's running great you are in good shape in the short run. But take pre-emptive measures to protect it, because when it fails, it fails BIG TIME. Like a few thousand bucks easy, up into the teens. That's where we are.

    Call Making Video

Very cool. I just had some hunting buddies exited about their first AZ turkey hunt ask me for call recommendations. I basically said, if you want to sound like everyone else, go to Cabela's or Bass Pro and buy something off the shelf. If you want a piece of art that is made by hand and specifically tuned to AZ turkeys, go to little creek. Since I've been using Ammon's calls, I can't justify buying a call from a big box store.
  17. The current generation is so absent minded and clueless, I doubt if any of them could name 6 past Presidents, 3 senators or describe any part of our Government. They just go along with it blindly, exactly as planned. We've been dumbed down - way down. Now we get to reap what we've sown.

I agree with Snapshot, but I'd add she's singing Angel of the Morning on our dream hunt.

I've got an old one - I mean really really old and it has a broken firing pin. It's break-over single shot but you can have it for a 6 pack of moose drool if you want it.
