I love his conviction, but I agree SF to Vail is kinda like frying pan into the fire. I sure do love his work though - and Lars,

Only way I eat trout these days is smoked, but they have to be red meat living off fresh water shrimp or snails. The ones that only eat bugs taste like mud.

The hunter certainly did the right thing by self reporting. I'm on the fence a little on this one as to whether the penalty was too harsh. I hate to see a guy get the book thrown at him when he was 100% up front and honest. That said, 3 bighorn sheep, dead...time to face the fiddler I suppose. But there's so many guys who would never have reported it and just walked away with their trophy. I get that he was incredibly irresponsible but I think I would have tried to be a little lenient because he was so honest.

Nice - they are tough to hunt for sure, but few things are sweeter than enjoying backstrap by the fire with a great sunset to cap it off. Thanks for posting.

Very cool, very relatable. Thanks for sharing.

What an amazing buck! Congrats, Hoss. That is one of the most perfect 4x4 bucks I've ever seen.

One thing to keep in mind, just tossing this out there - they all hold ice really well when properly cooled down and kept shut. If you are filling it with beer and opening it every few minutes to fish out a cold one, even the best ones require replenishing ice (and beer) almost daily. Or so I've heard.

Here's a great example of putting safety first - notice that the guy with the saw made sure he had proper ear protection before making the cut.

Here's mine. It's cheap but works out great every time. Keep in mind the proportions here are for 10-15 pounds of clean elk, deer, javelina or turkey. No fat, no sinew, etc. Lean meat. Cut the meat on a slicer while it's still mostly frozen - not too thick, about 1/4 inch. In a big bowl mix a whole bottle of cheap Walmart soy sauce, a whole bottle of cheap Walmart teriyaki sauce, a quarter bottle of Dale's steak seasoning, about a cup (or more) of yellow mustard, half a bottle of the cheapest Worcestershire sauce you can find, about a 1/2 ounce of liquid smoke, lots of garlic powder, black pepper. white pepper and a generous amount of brown sugar (1/2 cup to a full cup - the more brown sugar the more sticky-sweet it gets). The last ingredient is crushed red pepper. This is where you choose how much heat you want. I like mine a little hot to balance the salt and sweet in there, but you don't want to kill it with too much heat. For me, when you let the meat soak in this mix, you should see just enough crushed red pepper to be spread out - maybe 1/2 inch apart. Soak the meat strips, and turn them until they are are entirely infused with the marinade and have a good coating of the crushed red pepper flakes, then the dehydrator does the work. Bam, you've got a batch and you can decide from there when you want more or less salt, more or less heat - or sweet. But you at least have a starting point for finding what you like in a DIY recipe.

Makes my blood boil - and I don't have a history with this area.

Fantastic buck! I loved the story too. Great job.

Kind of a tradition here to put up the highlights of the year in pictures. Still have an archery deer tag in my pocket so this might not be the full story, but here it goes. Jan 1, my oldest and I double up on Javis. Turkey Time... Josh Matt Me Fall - Goat tag unit 19 Coues time. Best wishes for 2017. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year.

Yeah I should clarify - the coues in the last picture was taken in New Mexico.

Thanks everyone! Couestracker, it's a 6.5 x 284 Norma I built on a Savage action.

That was awesome. The shot placement was perfect! Great job - that was a really cool hunt to watch.

I'm with the "don't care about the score" guys on this one - He's amazing!

Sweet rifle - good luck with the sale.

Glad you posted this - I ordered one. Tough around this time of year to make a spontaneous purchase, and my wife grounded me from the computer after this and a 120 Kryptek shirt for $49 bucks. I justified it by pointing out I just bought $520 worth of stuff for 150 bucks. It worked! She loves a good deal as much as I do. Looks like this one is still going on... http://www.vertx.com/product/kryptek-gunfighter-shirt-mandrake/702

These typically come with a ball head. Has anyone found a good pan/tilt head to use on this tripod? Not looking for a super expensive head - nor the $40 plastic ones. I was looking at the Manfrotto 128RC but I'm not 100% sure it's compatible. Thanks.

Great info - as always the CWT members are a wealth of knowledge. Looking into all these heads now. Thanks for the replies.

I was thinking the same thing! Seriously hope you find it.

LOL. I Love the in-state rivalry. ASU fans got to suck it up hard tonight. Great game, super fun to watch and the best part was ASU folks in total disbelief just like Hillary voters!

Awesome write-up. It was a long, detailed read but very enjoyable. Huge congrats to Taylor on a fantastic first buck. Great job getting her out there and making those memories.
