    Looking for a lion

South of Alpine in unit 27 bail off the rim to the east anywhere south of Campbell Blue River. Stay where you see fresh deer sign. This is a tough hunt so plan on staying overnight but there are lions and they don't get called all that much, be prepared to chase off a bear or two while you're down there. it is a long hike most anywhere into this country so prepare appropriately.

    Disturbing Trend on CWT.com

Some may have missed or may miss the point about oneshot's comment. It is about our hunting heritage and ensuring we have the hunters today and tomorrow to pass on that heritage. Anyone can make their hunt restricted to any degree, that is a personal choice, let it stay that way. We can manage a deer or elk herd in many different ways, having units that produce good bulls and good bucks should be one of our management goals. Having most of our units producing healthy populations that provide an opportunity for all hunters to hunt on a regular basis should also be one of our goals. Ensuring we are providing young hunters an opportunity to develop their hunting style by hunting on a regular basis is also an important goal. we will continue to face a lot of challenges with an ever increasing population in a state with limited resources. We should work together to improve habitats ensuring wildlife a place to be in our future. Just as important is ensuring our hunting future and that means setting the example that allows non-hunters to support our choice to hunt.

Looking for a good meat processor

BEST meat processor......walk to your kitchen look at the knife block or the knife drawer.....there you have it the best meat processors in the state without question. why? you know exactly how long it is aged(hung at 40 degrees F, up to 30 days if you pay attention), you know it didn't hang laying against someone else's elk that maybe did take as good of care to keep it clean, you know exactly what it looked like as it is being cut up, you know exactly how much waste there is, you can remove all the sinew and fat if you like, you can package it exactly like you need, you can custom mix the burger (pork shoulder at 20% is a starting place), you can basically make the best darn meat on the planet. As good as any meat processor might be they will never care for your meat as well as you can.
  7. agree and rather than wasting time playing the blame game, do something constructive and contact your representatives, the appropriate committee chairs, etc.... and tell THEM you are disappointed and want something done about it. I'm pretty sure none of them will read your passing blame game snippits on this forum.

  12. Easy to say when it’s not your job getting cut. Everybody seems so quick to point out all the flaws. It seems there are a lot of dedicated city/government workers that don't often get a raise and quietly go about doing a great job. I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut if the kind of microscope view they look at state and local government was used on the private sector businesses a lot of you folks throwing out criticism from your glass house would be out of a job pretty darn quick.

How is unit 27 and 1 after the wallow fire?

The area is beginning the road to recovery, many of the browse species have resprouted, a lot of grasses and of course the aspens. Even though elk and deer like aspens there are enough it will not matter. the seeding they did seems ot be inhibiting some growth but has stabilized the soils. deer and elk will respond well. the turkey population was mostly lost, they will recover but it will take time. Show up for the AES work weekend June 9th, we will be rolling fence up, a lot of old burned dangerous fence to be removed! You can see for yourself how things are coming along and help improve wildlife habitat.

Why create a law that is an ethical issue and is unenforceable. You can't police ethics! Nothing in life is 100% and to think that just because someone is unable to recover game that they made some unethical choice is not realistic. The best hunters in the world, meaning lions, tigers, wolves etc. are successful maybe 10% of the time, to think that human hunters should never wound something is silly, its just part of hunting. A lot of our game laws have an ethical nexus, doesn't mean they shouldn't be laws. I also never said hunters do not wound game, they do. If more hunters had the ethical position of having tag soup after wounding and loosing an animal we wouldn't even need to consider this discussion. The fact remains, that is not the case. IMHO

Most Wallow fire closures are OPEN!!

Doesn't sound discriminatory at all and the FACT of the matter is there are a LOT of us that would prefer to never hear an ATV again, I'll walk thank you! If you want to sight see, hunt, or what ever on an ATV do so where the roads are open and have fun. The fact that you can't drive over every square inch of the forest is a good thing.

By making the statement in the rule that "All roads are closed unless posted open", that's how. Like it or not, that's what they are doing.

Long range accuracy from fixed blade heads???

If you want long (or short ) range stability and repeatability, do like Howard Hill (rememeber Howard), shoot fixed blades with a 3 to 1 length to width ratio. works every time
