seeking help on AZ-22N late hunt for bull elk
azpredator@work replied to desertyankee's topic in Elk Hunting
Well, I can't seem to be able to upload my son's elk from last year so here's the one we are hoping for this year. He broke off 3" of his 5th on his right side as of 2 weeks ago so he's still in good shape. Thanks for teaching me how to upload pics. And yes, I use bait, salt and quads to see as many animals as possible. -

Responsibility first - activities second. No hunting, sports, video games, etc. for my son if his grades aren't where they should be. Remeber this, school is going to be the easiest part of your life and getting average grades requires little effort. Take pride and put forth your BEST effort in EVERYTHING you do - even if you don't like what it is. You will become a better MAN for it. Ever heard of the phrase "this is going to hurt me more than it hurts you"? I guarantee your father feels worse than you do about disciplining you in this manner. However, he is proving his love to you by teaching you important life lessons. Accept this discipline without disrespecting him and show your father what you can accomplish. FYI - I learned my lesson when I was a kid and my parents took me out of baseball due to a "D" in spanish. I'm now bi-lingual!

Looking tough in 34b
azpredator@work replied to azpredator@work's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Slopepoke36, fatbastard, psehunter, couesaz - thanks for the help. We weren't able to locate any bucks, but had a good hunt. Way too short due to work. Met some good guys hunting in the same area. Found plenty of javelina and got some good footage stalking to within 8 yards (that was a first for my son). Thanks again, Wade -
My 12 year old son didn't draw a deer tag this year so I put in for 4 leftover tags. The 4th choice was 34b where I have never hunted. I know 34a well and figured it would be the same type of hunt - just across the road. I guess I was wrong. 2 scouting trips have yielded 0 coues sightings and 1 discouraged dad. Questions: 1) Anybody hunt this unit this year or last that can provide some info? 2) How can I access the north end of the Whetstones? I drove everywhere in off the Emeritas rd, but never could find access - everything is locked up! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

seeking help on AZ-22N late hunt for bull elk
azpredator@work replied to desertyankee's topic in Elk Hunting
desertyankee - My 11 year old son drew this tag last year for his first ever elk hunt. I spent 19 days in the field scouting the unit and found a few good spots I was confident in for the Dec hunt. He eventually killed his bull on opening morning an hr into the hunt. 332" unbroken 6x7. The bull was still in his core area from September and didn't move much from there. My son drew the same tag this year and we've seen a huge change from last year as several hunters have hunted the same areas that were vacant last year. Most of my scouting each weekend has resulted in relatively few elk sightings and mainly watching the other hunters trying to determine where they are moving the elk. That was my tactic last year as well. I would recommend you finding a packer ahead of season with mules. This year has a lot more growth than last year - generally speaking - so it will be a lot harder to pack out. I used a couple guys that work for the county last year and have to find their number for this year's hunt. They were great. If I knew how to post pics I could show you some - we're keeping an eye on a certain bull right now hoping he makes it through a couple more hunts . Good luck to you - shoot me a pm with your email if you'd like to see some pics. -
"sorry everyone i just realized that this was posted and it was my little brother he got mad at me and said he was going to get on one of my things and piss people off so i was wondering how to delete this" "i dont care how many people hunt 34A because nobody has the balls to go where we go" "ok codywhi thats why i saw you hunting there you retard and thanks cmc thats one of my problems" Are all these posts from "your little brother"....? "This should win an award titled "Most Replies to a Stupid Post". Chalk one more up from me." And another one from me

Taking out my first youth hunter!
azpredator@work replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Youth Hunters
Sundevil brought up a good point. Make sure the eye relief on the scope fits the youngster and they put plenty of practice rounds through the rifle before heading out. Like others have said - patience, patience, patience. For me it has been very difficult taking my son, but very rewarding. Some tips to remember if your brother is pretty young: 1) Kids get cold easy - bring more clothes for them than you think you would need. I never bought a handwarmer until bringing my son. Now I buy them by the bulk. 2) Take along a ton of snacks. Seems like my boy would ask for something to eat or drink every 5 minutes. 3) Have him bring along something he can do in the middle of the day while you are glassing. They don't like to sit quietly for very long. -
