Good advise from kp Striper or shark is probably the best bet out of SF. I would highly recommend you get out of city for a day by renting a car and going up to Point Reyes Seashore. http://www.nps.gov/pore/ They have a lot of Tule Elk on the peninsula around Tomales bay. There are some beaches on the point that require a very short hike. They have a nice visitors center with lots of wildlife related exhibits. You will also see lots of Blacktail deer if you drive out to the light house. There is also a nice hike to MT Wittenburg where could say is a very romantic spot for a picnic or to watch the sunset (and observe deer). You can camoflage this as a trip to see the redwoods, lighthouse and beaches with a romantic picnic. You can stop at Muir Woods on the way(Go Early) up there. This was my favorite all day date itinerary when I lived out there. Another thing to do when you are sick of the city is to rent a bike and go across the golden gate. Bring a jacket. If the fog rolls in you can freeze quickly.

Just reminding everyone to get this on your calendar. Great event for family and friends. Looking forward to it again Dan -
Buy some quality leader from (Sports whse is probably the closest to Marana) in the flyfishing dept. size 4x should be fine for stocked rainbow. You can add the leader to your line using a triple surgeons knot or a swivel if you need a bobber stop Sports whse will also have cheap flies. I would buy some Wooly Buggers. Size 10 or 12 in Olive and black. Also some nymphs (Pheasant tails or Copper Johns in size 14, 16. If you are going to fish the rim or white mountains lakes this summer you will want some Ant patterns as well. Use 3-6 ft of leader behind the bobber Good Luck Dan PS. If you go to Arizona flyfishing in Tempe you will get much better quality flies.

The other joy you will have is getting your ATV smogged every year if you live in the valley. It sucks to sit there in 105 degree sun while everyone is revving their engine and sucking their Carbon Monoxide. There are a lot of improved roads in the forest and BLM lands that the County Mounties will cite you for not being street legal. By the way Progressive was the cheapest source for ATV insurance. Good luck with your tickets. Dan

He had max points going in (14 I think). He is a resident , but on some units it is taking less points as a non resident. I have 11 points so am hoping the population holds for a few more years. I figure I need at least 3-4 more years before I am a shoe in. I have 8 elk points, so I hope that fills in for when I get a cold streak drawing in AZ. I will probably hunt the extended wasatch season in November this year. I drew archery bull in AZ so I will probably not go to Ut for early archery deer. Good luck Dan

salt and feed no more in 2009

1- I would like the department to look at the # of Swarovski binoculars owned by hunters in AZ. We should ban all foreign made optics as this has been a well documented method that has dramatically increased over the last ten years. Also tripods, monopods, butt pads or any other device to encourage glassing should also be banned. This encourages lazy obese hunters to harvest superior deer to those hunters using more traditional "sportsman like" methods. 2- There was a 1200 member rifle hunter army in 22 this October. This huge amount of hunter pressure has not been seen in any recent time or ever, yet there is no mandatory reporting to see the impact of such a dramatic change in hunter numbers. Where is the science in that? There is no science in that, there is a revenue model though!!! -
New to Mesa, New to Coues Deer
Traveler replied to Mr. Jonathan's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Welcome to AZ Lots of spots for Coues in the 2X units to the north, and even more in 3X units to the south. The closer to town the more folks you will share the spots with. Sent you a PM Dan -
I am buying a 22.250. My son really enjoys shooting my .17HMR and is a little recoil sensitive. So I am looking to get one of the Howa / Weatherby Vanguard rifles that I can put a youth stock on. I would like something with up to at least 14x magnification. I am looking to spend up to 5 or $600 for the scope if I need to. Also if someone knows a good dealer in the greater PHX area I would prefer to buy it there instead of one of the big box stores Thanks Dan
