Thx - appreciate that. I didn't know that. I think Rem ships this with a 5 rounder since some states limit hunting to 5 round mags. Price lowered to 2600. No one wants to take up Coyote hunting?

Amendments are also proposed to make the rule less restrictive, increase clarity, and improve consistency with other subsections of the rule. Amendments include: Clarifying the use of crossbows; this is proposed to improve consistency and reduce confusion among hunters regarding the use of crossbows. Allowing crossbows and bows that are drawn and held with an assisting device for the take of specific wildlife; this is proposed to make the rule less restrictive, increase clarity, and improve consistency with other subsections of the rule. Reducing the minimum standard pull weight for bows; this is proposed to reflect current technological advances. Allowing the take of mountain lion with shotgun shooting shot. This amendment was requested by members of the public during previous hunt guideline discussions. The Department believes this is an effective and ethical method of take and anticipates that the additional number of mountain lions taken using this method will be minimal. No - the complaint is specifically that allowing unlimited crossbows on scarce big game hunts like elk or kaibab, then you increase the harvest and eventually decrease hunter opportunity across the board - including for rifle and muzzle. I have a z7 and 3 recurves and an older hoyt and am thinking about a longbow. I also have a couple of muzzleloaders and a few decent rifles. I am open to decent hunter opportunity across the board, but crossbows are evil and imho for healthy individuals they are just a lazy excuse not to learn to shoot well with a bow...plus i think they were invented by the french...enough said.

If that's the case...then just sign up for one of them there remote internet rifle robotic hunts. You can surf the message boards and kill a deer without leaving your couch.

Credit card laws forbid vendors from charging for a product that hasn't been delivered or can be delivered. They have charged my card for the 7.50 point/app fee I believe and for the licenses (which I purchased for my family), but i don't think they can charge for a tag until you have actually drawn for it. Other states seem to have loopholes written in their online systems that you are actually applying for a license so perhaps they get away with it that way. Then again, remember AZGFD got sued by US Outfitters who were trying to secure tags for their "wealthy out of state clients" which caused the old system to come offline in the first place - so maybe they had to come up with a new way to fix it.

They had a webcast last night and AZGFD made it clear that they are NOT allowing crossbows during the archery elk hunts - only during the general hunts....so if you rifle hunters hear a bolt whistling by your ears next year, you will know what it is. Again - my only complaint (and I think it was shared by many archery hunters) that allowing anyone and all use of crossbows during already very limited 5-10 year waits for decent archery hunts would reduce opportunity for all bowhunters. I'll return y'all to your scheduled pro/against TX hunts now.

I think you answered your own question with "they do it in Texas"....no offense but they also fence off all their deer and have turned hunting into a pastime for the uberrich. It's hard enough to get drawn for archery elk or kaibab deer without crossbows getting in the mix. Now if it just about a disabled guy getting a fair shot then that is a different story...same with small game - I am all for it,

You read the article or the specs? More like 1 million gallons over 4 hours for 1 plane. I can only find a 34 kt peak gust on any of the weather stations in a 100 mile radius of the area...the other manager says they had aerial suppression going right away and you say it was too windy? Which is it? No offense but your and a few others defensive posts are exactly why these things happen. Next up....forest service supports fellow government agency TSA searching underwear of 95 year old great grandmother in airport security. Says that's the right thing to do.

Had some wheel time in the 215 a long time ago. No attacks or water fills...just some approaches for a guy who needed to get IFR current. Shortly thereafter I turned down a forestry aviation management job to go commercial which has had its ups and downs, and let me tell you, if you wanna talk about bad managers running airlines, you'll get no arguments from me. I don't own any stock in Bombardier, nor do I have any dog in the fight except like all of this I hate to see this happen to our forests, and I have some perspective that is a little different than the rest out there. Those 215's had radial engines and were pretty responsive. As for the wind, it is always bad here in the afternoon hours, but if you could get enough water to knockdown the fires before the winds get up in the afternoon I think that would be the key. The 415's got updated in the late 90's with turboprop engines and are pretty fast and maneuverable. I think they could easily fill at Roosie or San carlos...and yes that is only about 10-15 minutes flying time at 250 kts as the crow flies and they could dump a lot of water. The article is right about controversy on the approach to firefighting. We seem to prefer a ground based approach but I think that is because it is big money for contractors. The terrain in CA is probably a lot more challenging than here. Sea level to 12000' mountains versus 2000 to 9000' terrain. We always see the ground guys upset with the flyboys and of course then you have the private contractors who have a lot at stake with these contracts and they hate those wet leased airplanes in this country. Saw the same thing with the conair s-2's in BC and WA. Give me a 415 over a PBY or anything else anyday (including a DC10). Give us 10 of them based in the SW Fire Region and get them aggressive early on and I think you will see a difference but that would cost a lot of money and a lot of people willing to change their thinking which we can all tell from some of the posts here probably won't happen. Moving $$$ from PBY contractors and ground based solutions to buy 10 of those turboprops probably won't happen until 500+ homes burn down in Pinetop/Payson and/or FLG...like they did in LA County in the early 1990s.

Sigh. I give up. Well if you're happy with what's happening in this state with wildfires keep on doing what your doing. After all, WA, OR, BC, ON and QUEBEC have 10 times our forests and not near the fires and I know part of it at least is aggressive aerial firefighting capabilities. They can get just as dry as anyone else. We can rationalize all about costs and whine about the weather and the leftist lawyers and judges, but if we had 10 of those updated Cl 415 turboprop water bombers that can carry 6 times the water of a heavy helo and travel at 250 mph based in the SW mgmt region, I think without a doubt we would have a much more effective rapid response in place. Add to that the environuts and the bureaucratic pushback of "let it burn because the judges won't let us thin" mentality in some of the upper echelons of the forestry management people and we all lose imho. I'm out.
