Advice Please - Wary, Mature Coues Bucks
dieselroe replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
You should just hunt the trail then. Unfortunately the new camera might push them further out, or to a new trail though. Putting up cameras brings a lot of scent with it. I hope you get em. -
Has Anyone Deer Hunted Mount Lemmon Before?
dieselroe replied to CouesHunterAZ's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Sounds like this might be one of couesbaiters favorite spots you just gave away......lol Hopefully he isn't really baiting coues, per the new regs. -
Is he drinking out of a little water hole?

Advice Please - Wary, Mature Coues Bucks

Can you get up high and watch them bed? I think bigger deer are more leery, I would hunt the trail or spot and stalk the area. -
He's really big and that sounds like a great manly adventure. Isn't that what its all about. Enjoying God's wild. Good job!

what would you do? i need some advice!
dieselroe replied to KILLDEER's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Ahh water holes......... You know,,, I really think big bucks go down wind and check for scent before they come to water. Big bucks are smart. Better off spot and stalk in my opinion. I've sat water for many years and if your on the ground the big bucks generally don't swing by(just my opinion though, nobody get angry). Even in a tree stand it needs to be established way before the hunt and up nice and high. In this case I would say God is helping you by teaching you to move to a better spot. If you must sit, make it a good situation with the wind and recently used trail. You really need to see animals there or know by camera use. Just get up on the tallest hill nearby and glass. You'll see more deer and might get a stalk. -
No elk! Never thought of that. Great point. Elk do eat a lot. A whole lot.

He's not the guide, so the responsibility is not on him. For $300, it is worth getting bloody... You will most likely learn a lot, and gain a lot of confidence and be able to do it yourself down the road. This is very good advice!! If you've been hunting for 6 years and haven't been successful it will be very profitable to pay somebody to show you some new things that maybe you haven't considered before. I take friends hunting and it cost me money so 300 dollars is probly just enough for food and gas. Thats a great deal with all you'll learn and maybe making a kill!! If I had not killed a deer after 6 years I may have given up on hunting and not pursued it any more, so congrats on your determination. I killed my first year and have killed about every other year since. Pay a buddy to help you and have some fun. 300 is nothin. 300 wouldn't hardly get you a good scope!! 2 pennys and them some.....

Great Story! Your a good writer. -
There is always a lot of talk about baiting on here. Can a veteran explain if we missed something and now corn and hay is not legal for 2013?

Awesome buck man!! Tree stands are kinda nice sometimes. Especially after you have about 10 failed stalks. I think the 90 hours is why I don't use trail cams. I might end up living in a tree......hahahahahaha

I use Vortex 15x56. Couldn't be happier. $1200.

1/4 mile does not apply to bow, although not advertised.

I would say white tail are up big time and the muley's are going down. Mule deer have to stop and look at what is chasing them every time and are a bigger target. Odds are against them with their stupid habits. WT are also being seen in new places all the time. Like really low. I also think the WT are pushing the mule deer around. Elk and WT are taking the mule deer feed. Elk and cattle are not native and create more competition for the deer. I would like to see the mule deer tags go down and a WT Doe hunt brought back pretty heavy. This would lead a lot of people to taking does and save some big bucks for the trophy hunters, instead of killing all the spikes that are not that smart yet. To bad I didn't make the commission!! LOL

Nice buck. Glad you have a horse to pack it out for you to!

I've also read that bucks mostly hit scrapes at night. Just something I read, thought I might advise.
