Dang it you caught me earlier than expected! I knew someone would figure out these are Grand Canyon bucks but that was quick. After that controversial thread about the 227 buck I decided to take my kids up to the canyon to see some animals up close. The Canyon didn't disappoint and the kids loved it! LOL! Thats funny. Sounds like a cool time for the kids. I thought that the buck looked a little to close to be a weary giant...........

These aren't more grand canyon park bucks are they......JK.....lol Maybe you want to sell his location?

Just get the 40mm, better to be a minamalist when it comes to weight. I love my 40mm leupold and its low profile. It also does just fine when its getting late. I don't think it would be worth all the hassel you mention in the last part of your post. Good choice on Leupold though!

Congrats! Don't forget to grab a turkey tag to so you can drop a bird next time. Depending on the unit of course. In August I like to have turk,deer,bear, and a lion tag in my pocket. You never know.

If I were you I would just head up and hunt close to the rim. I would not doubt if there is a big buck up there that non of these muley crazy, camera crazy, nasty stunt, kick you off their water tank, guys know about. That's how they get big. They hide in funny spots......... Good luck.

I second that, I think a lot of the big bucks actually go down wind of water to check for lions usually. I'm not saying you couldn't get a big one on water, people do it. But the wind, stand location, stand entry trail, and weather have to play into your favor. Thats a lot of factors. I think that's why guides use spot and stalk.

Lots of houses. Be sure to watch your backdrop when shooting in this unit. All the traffic will be closest the border, but these guys don't want trouble. When you see them just pretend they are deer and they will pass right by. NEVER had a problem.
