Don't get too excited guys, it's 3 nubs of growth... and you're correct its 2 weeks apart for the 3 nubs. My bad, the same day pic he is just getting started... but still a good difference. Sorry to get everyone riled up! Nice bull growing also.

Who chambers carbon fiber barrels
EAS replied to n2horns's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Owens Armory in Prescott valley did a fabulous job on mine. -
That's what I had built last summer... 7lb rifle prior to scope and bipod, with manners t3 and 28" bull proof barrel, stiller action, Bla bla bla. Awesome power and energy for sure.

Notice the hair is soaking wet from the heart that literally blew up with rib bones out the side.

Very nice looking work! Have you done any matching scopes with the stocks?

Sportsmans usually has some. I shoot the 212 ELDX and like them a lot. I've found that I need to weigh them and load for extreme consistency in order to shoot same hole groups. Great hunting round, devastating on the deer I've dropped. I have a photo of last years mule deer if anyone wants to see the devastation, shot at 640 yards, with a respectable hole that stopped him in his tracks.

Custom built AZ rifle by Owens Armory. 300 Norma magnum 120 rounds down the barrel. Amazing rifle. Rifle without scope came in at 7lbs, shoots like a dream with the brake. I had this rifle built with these key factors in mind - light for backpacking for hunts, highest level of accuracy, long range, and no doubt that the game in the cross hairs would go down in its tracks and never just be wounded. Super flat, heavy knockdown with tons of energy. Develop your own, but my load was 212 grain ELDx bullet, shooting 3220 fps, zero @300 yards, supersonic past 1 mile. see my load photo for drop and energy on this load. Grain it down for a even faster and flatter lighter round for smaller animals like coues deer. Below is some info on it, but feel free to ask any questions I can answer. $5k invested in this build list, we can talk smoking price in a PM or on the phone if this rifle interests you. Possible part trades and cash. Quad, bino's, camper... run it past me! Stiller Tac 338 reciever Stiller CIP DBM Pic Rail Proof Research 28 carbon fiber barrel Timney Calvin Elite trigger Manners T3 composite stock Muzzle brake Sling Bipod Custom case Custom 300 Norma die set Reloading bullets/primers/powder 50 rounds brass loaded Magnum chamber job Threaded and crowned barrel Inlet stock for DBM Bedding job thanks for looking.

I hunted 12bw late rut the first year of the fence in 2013... Still saw buck, shot the buck in my pic. Let's see what others have to say, I have the late 12B rut tag this year again hehe...

Hey guys, I pulled my camera cards today and wanted to see if anyone else thinks the antler growth on mule deer seems a little late compared to last year at this time? I have the same deer on cam and I'm comparing last year and this years pics week by week and it just seems a little behind... Or is it just me? Post up some muley growth for fun anyway!

This is him on 7/24/15... He needs to grow upwards now about a foot or more... I'll post newer pics as soon as I pull chips again this weekend... I take it all back, I bet he will be huge by opening day... But I still think he will still grow more a few weeks into season. Can't wait to see. (Why do all the iPhone pics turn sideways?)
-
That was 8/11/14... So I'll check pics of him again before season opens this year... With hopes that he will be grown closer to potential! I'm having thoughts of waiting for the last 2 weeks of the Archery hunt to go after him, but don't want to push my luck and miss him again this season. Looks like the last week of the archery hunt is going into the dark/new moon so that might be a great time to catch them moving a little more in the day... Thoughts?

Last year same buck in velvet, and a hard horn January pic... Some of you might remember me posting my chase last year on this buck, but I just couldn't get it done. I'd hate to smoke him too early when he still has 10 or 20 inches left to grow!
-
I'm wondering if opening day for archery will be enough time for full velvet growth potential?
