I don't see flying an area several days before the hunt all that differant than looking at Topo's, Google Earth or any number of scouting options that we have available to us these days. I have never flown myself, but would not hesitate if I had the opportunity. What a great way to learn the lay of the land first hand. If you happen to see a nice animal while flying you still must have incredibale skill to harvest that animal. You guys all know how mobile a Buck can be during the rut. Get well soon Randy you are a great asset to Archery and Bowhunting. Gary

If you have seen a mature Whitetail Buck with a Doe then you have seen some rutting activity. The mature Bucks will run alone or in small bachelor groups for most of the year until the breeding season when they seek out the Does. What a great life - You get the urge just a few weeks out of the year seek out a few ladies and the rest of you time hang'n with guys BS'n and eat'n & drink'n whenever you want.

Several Years ago I also saw 7 together. In fact I watched these bucks for several months before the early season and they seemed to break up into smaller groups about mid August. By the time the season opened the two largest were off by them self.

what is the most effective way to bowhunt coues?
AzPlumber replied to fuentestm's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
In My opinion the spot & stalk is the most productive method. However stands & blinds have there place & time. Having taken a number of these little guys over the years, most of them with Bow & Arrow I have found that they are not an habitual animal. Each area you hunt will be unique. Some areas might be more consistant than others, but in all areas these Deer are driven by two things food & water. They live in a enviroment that is constantly changing and they have to move and adapt in order to survive. If you bait or salt these guys in an area that has no natural food source or a food source that is being depleated, they will move or have moved to a new area. The same goes for water. in some areas if you set a stand on water that is covered in tracks and come back a week later during the season the Deer may have moved to a better food source and are watering elsewhere. As the hunter you have to adapt as well. Use what method you think will be the most productive for the situation. -
Chuck, These deer will test your skills both mentally and physicaly. Don't give up and don't limit yourself to eastern whitetail tactics. They are quite often very active during the middle of the day. Good luck

Anyone been out yet and have a report on conditions in southeastern AZ. The last 2 years I hunted units 22 & 23, but will be heading south again this year. Good luck to all. Gary B

Keep in mind that the P&Y min. is 65" and for good reason. You don't get alot of chances at a Coues with a bow. The satisfaction of a 80" archery Coues is much greater than a 100" rifle Coues. I say if he is in your range take him and be proud of taking one of the greatest trophies of your life.

Coues Deer can be taken with most any quallity broadhead. I have taken them with fixed blades and expandables and both work just fine with the equipment I was using. Just make sure your equipment works well together and you feel comfortable with your setup and you will be just fine. Personally I would not shoot expandables with less than 60lbs of energy.
