It sounds to me like goats would be the way to go for you, however either borrow or rent a horse for your 70 year old hunting companion. That way he doesn't have to walk in and can save his energy for the hunt. Personally I'd stay away from mules. Too many good horses out there to mess with a mule...IMO.

Finally got out after Sage Grouse today. It was a fun hunt but unfortunately my kids couldn't make it. Gunner and I had a blast though, we got up over 40 birds and put 2 nice males in the bag. Unfortunately they were molting or else one of them would have been headed for the Taxidermist.

Thanks. This past weekend didn't go as planned. I had 2 horses decide they were part beaver and ended up eating almost all of a sheet of wafer board. Needless to say this plugged them up so I spent 7 hours walking them around Saturday until the worst of it had passed. Hopefully next weekend goes better...

Thanks again for the kind words. Sage grouse season opens tomorrow. I only get to go out for a couple of hours since the kids have their final soccer games in the morning as well, but hopefully we'll be able to find a few birds.

Thanks everyone, I rarely go out without my kids. Both because I love to have them with me and also because they won't let me out the door without them!

I shot a mulie buck about 12 years ago that had warts all over him. I wasn't sure what the crap it was so I took him into the local DWR office. A biologist came out and cut a couple off to sample but they were just warts like cattle get. I was worried to even touch the thing though...

As you can see I've been having a blast hunting with my kids this year. I let my kids decide which deer I shot, and I think they did a pretty good job picking the buck. Also having my 2 year old along packing his "Shop Gun" on the bird hunts has been a lot of fun too. I'll post more pics as the season progresses. Sage Grouse season starts on Saturday!

I've just been lurking the last while but thought I'd check in with you all. I've had a pretty good Fall so far. I've got out hunting Ruff and Blue grouse a few times, tagged out on a nice Mulie buck and last night filled my Sandhill Crane tag. Heres a few pics from the year so far. I still have 2 Sage Grouse tags, antlerless deer and elk tags as well as my general season muzzy elk tag so hopefully I'll have several more pics to share as the season progress's. And thats not counting upland and waterfowl hunting!.

I took my family to the library Saturday and my 6 year old son found a book about a kid and his dad who took a hunting trip to Alaska. I was blown away, I didn't know there were any books like that out there. Turns out theres a series of them. I plan on buying them all since I really like supporting people who support hunting, especially ones who promote kids hunting!!! http://www.littlesportsman.com/

Nice picture, looks like a great day. I know they call it Turducken when you stuf a chicken in a duck then the duck in a turkey. You could do something similar to that with your teal, gadwall, and gooses. Then serve it up as "Duck, Duck, Goose". (It sounded funny in my head.... )

Glad to see the government finally pulled their heads out of their arses, at least as far as this issue goes. Shutting down those slaughter houses hurt a lot of people, not only those who owned and worked at them.
