I know! I sat one of my coues spots after I tagged in January to get some footage and I had a nice 90-95inch 3x3 come in everyday for a week. the closest he got was 5 yards from the blind. Made for good footage on the camera and phone.

Mountain lion in a cage trap!
CouesBuckhunter replied to Don Martin's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
he should have killed the lion, or had someone who had a tag kill it. But i am not sure the exact rule on trapping lions, pretty sure its only permitted in certain areas? -

what i do that works awesome is i buy some 4 way blend at the feed store and molasses, and cmere deer powder. i mix it all together and coat it/mix it with cmere deer. the deer tear it up! also another thing they like is something that isnt very expensive. save the peanut shells (if you like peanuts & eat alot of them) and grind them up into a fine powder.

Friday 3:00 PM, im at school and my dad is out hunting a huge buck hard. 3:10 PM, he shoots the huge buck at 47 yards......7:00PM, he is finally back to the truck. That was my dads hunt in summary, (as much as I know). He was extremely tired and cacti-thorn-full and my knee was killing me still so i decided to hunt one of my spots and take it easy (instead of hunting the verticle caynons) the next day. 6:00AM, i wake up and began my ride to my water spot, i get there only to find out that someone stole my camera! I was extremely mad and was debating whether to sit there or not, after thinking (frustrated thinking) i came to the conclusion that I didnt even want to be in this spot any more since someone is obviously taking advantage of my spot. So i left and on the way out i spotted a nice 3x4 pushing does. After a closer look I realized: "O crap! thats Slant!" Slant is a buck I have been watching for a while and the last time i saw him was last january, when i took a video of him. I have also found a shed from him. So when i caught sight of him I knew I had to go after him. I got his doe in between me and him and he circled around at 30yards, but i drew too late and he stepped behind the doe but i held my bow back because it appeared that he was gonna continue walking unfortunatly after awhile i couldnt hold the bow back any longer so i let down and the doe spooked, he ran up the hill with her and stopped at 40 yards and i released my 415 grain arrow tipped with a 125 swhacker right into both lungs. He only went 40 yards. Here's my dad's buck, he is a 4x4 non typical and rough scored at about 117, he has 5 inch bases and a 17.5 inch spread. That is the biggest bodied Coues Deer my dad has ever seen, it makes his antlers look small. Heres my buck, (AKA Slant), I have no idea what he will score,,,He is a 3x4, decent mass and good eyeguards. He isnt huge but he meant a whole lot to me.

Been hunting hard since jan. i hunted jan, august, and the general rifle hunt, got on huge bucks up to 115 inches but either missed or had them sppok on me. So when december came i knew i couldnt be as picky so i said to myself any 3x3 will do. Last saturday i glassed up a buck easily 115 or better, he got up out of his bed as i was about to put a stalk on him and he went over the ridge, i made a run at him anyways and stepped on him at 20yards and he stopped at 50, i coulnt get the shot through the ocotillo so it didnt happen. But to my luck i found a hammered water hole in the genearal area he was at. I decided to sit it the next day[sunday]and had 8 deer come through and 2 bucks, one was a 3x3 and i shot but missed. I lwft the water at 1 o clock and switched to spot n stalk. i glassed up a nice 95-100 3x3 pushing does but ran out of daylight on the stalk. So the next day i knew i had to sit that waterhole. I was gonna sit it all day but that didnt happen. It was a bad weather day, it was windy with no sun. and at 1 o clock that buck i had missed the previous day showed up. I was reading so i slowly set the book down, grabbed my bow and drew back. He was 25yrds and was extreme quartering to me. I picked my spot in between the middle of chest and shoulder and released. I heard the "swhack!" and knew i made a good shot, then i looked up and he was stumbling up the dike with blood gushing out. He only ran 30yrds before i saw himn pile up right before me. I guess that Ol buck thaught "the guy who threw a sharp stick at me yesterday wont be here today!" will post better pics alittle later. Good luck to those who are still holding tags!

where im at its been raining since 6pm and is gonna be heck come 5am. The rut here has been just starting, in a pre rut stage. Bucks arent totally dumb yet. One biggun came in 2 days in a row pushing does 20yrds from me but when i moved he spooked (too bad i dont have my tag, he is pretty impressive)

Hunting in the rain?
CouesBuckhunter replied to AZHUNTERRENT4's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
as long as its not raining cats and dogs you should be fine and the deer should be moving alittlw with the pre rut going on right now. I personally like the light rains because it masks your noise on a spot n stalk and it generally distracts a buck. The oly con about the rain is that your equipment may not handle good, especially if you are glassing or going in for the shot. -
